Could the chemicals be pest control chemicals?

I doubt it. What would be the acid like solution used for? Anyhow, the man presumably should know what the chemicals are. Apparently he isn't saying what it is, since the doctors still don't know?

Exactly! And then this afternoon - they find something else - all they said was it was a "highly volatile chemical" and then proceeded to shut down I-95 (although it was very short) - the bomb squad was called in to transport it out. WTH did this guy have? I can't understand with all the agencies involved that they still haven't identified what this chemical is. This poor child - I hope he hangs on and can pull through - but the doctors are saying they are having a very hard time treating him because they don't know what it is.

I'm watching all the local media outlets. BTW the truck still hasn't been moved - at least at 8 PM it wasn't.

I wonder how old the little grand daughter is?
So this family has "SECRETS" like most of these child murder cases!
Jail everyone who knew and never helped!

I wonder too.

I also wonder why a young girl (if she has a piggy bank I'm assuming young) is in therapy. And why this child's parents were not the first to raise the alarm. And why a child of these people would leave their own child with them.

Not sleuthing, just wondering. It will be interesting to see how this unravels.

The newest article at www.palmbeachpost.com says the granddaughter was 7 yrs old. The granddaughter went to school with the other two children - a Miami-Dade public school but the twins didn't go - they were being homeschooled. Wonder why just the twins weren't allowed to go to public school.

I want to know what the grown child - parents of the granddaughter - knew and if he/she was abused when he/she was younger.

This article says she is 6.
"When she stayed at her grandparents’ home after school, 6-year-old Alessandra Perez saw the two adoptive children who lived there locked in a bathroom, a shower curtain taped to the walls to trap them in the bathtub."

The child's mother is the daughter of the woman (Carmen) -since the two (Carmen and Jorge) married in 1996, I presume from the first marriage/relationship so the child's mother wouldn't have been raised by Jorge.

There is a lot more info in this article. I'm not seeing that the granddaughter's mother is the grown child. It does mention the child's mother in this article but doesn't say if she is the child of either Carmen or Jorge. I thought I read something earlier about Jorge's ex-wife speaking out - but now I can't find it.

They taped the shower curtain to the wall to keep them confined in the bathtub and also made them stay in garbage bins.

Poor little V is still deteriorating. I'm praying for God to watch over him.

:praying:

Thats all I can do right now... too furious :banghead::banghead::sick::sick::sick:

BBM. Homeschooling is common in child abuse cases. I've come to expect this fact when following cases here at WS. It's a way for the abuser to hide the abuse. States really need to address the issue of home schooling and how that hides abused children from mandatory reporters. I don't mean to indicate that homeschooling is bad, because I know some great homeschoolers. I just feel that abusers have found a way to use it to their advantage and that needs to be addressed.

Sources now say the Barahonas “went underground’’ following the June report, removing the children from their public school, insisting they were being home-schooled. Child welfare experts say pulling children from school thwarts any visibility in the home, and often is used to cover up abuse or neglect.

And this wasn't a HUGE RED FLAG to the case workers!!

"A" shared what she saw at her grandparents’ home with her father, YP. On Tuesday, a day after Barahona’s pickup was found on I-95, YP filed an emergency petition seeking custody of A. He was also worried because his ex-wife, J - who is Carmen Barahona’s daughter - failed to get "A" to school on Tuesday morning.

According to the petition, DCF opened a case last week "regarding the danger that the child AP was being exposed to in the home."

A day late and several dollars short - not to mention it still completely failed Victor and his sister!

Thankx LCoastMom - I sure hope little A. is accounted for and safe tonight.

I've just been reading so much my head is spinning. This is just so horrible and so completely preventable. This social worker - Fleary, I think her name is - should be fired immediately. Did you see the tape where the Judge asked her "since when do we not investigate on weekends?"

This article (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110216/ap_on_re_us/us_toxic_truck_family) says that child welfare officials stated that Nubia had a medical condition that she was teased about so that's why they kept her home. This little girl had enough tragedy in her young life so I'm not going to post the condition - but it's at the link. Very sad...

Child welfare officials said classmates teased Nubia mercilessly and her parents decided to home school her last fall.

That would (or might?) make at least two of these adopted children Special Needs, if her condition qualifies as special needs, since one of the other children has Autism. This would mean state subsidies ($$$) per child. It sounds like that's what may have been motivating this particular couple to foster and also adopt these children, as love doesn't seem to be the reason.

Also, Florida's list of qualifications for a subsidy seems to be quite broad - they may even have gotten a subsidy for V as well, if the placement was as a sibling unit:

http://www.nacac.org/adoptionsubsidy/stateprofiles/florida.html

1. What specific factors or conditions does your State consider to determine that a child cannot be placed with adoptive parents without providing financial assistance? ("What is your State definition of special needs?")

A child with special needs is defined as a child that:

Was permanently committed to the Department or licensed child placing agency, and

Has at least one of the following needs or circumstances that may be a barrier to placement or adoption without financial assistance:
a. Eight years of age or older
b. African American or racially mixed parentage
c. Member of a sibling group being placed for adoption as a unit
d. Mentally handicapped.
e. Physically handicapped.
f. Emotionally handicapped.
g. Significant emotional ties with his foster parents or relative caregiver

AND

Except for children adopted by their foster parent or relative caregiver, there was reasonable but unsuccessful efforts to place without subsidy.

Well I hope "J" is investigated for her role in this. Like others, I want to know why A was in counseling and what was going on with her. Secrets are such a heavy burden for a 7 year old.

A's parents appear to have divorced. That alone, I presume, can lead to child being in counseling.

Thankx belimom - that poor little girl. I don't understand though. Unless the other children were told about her condition how would they know?

Once again Miami DCF is under fire. As they should be. It truly is a cesspool in Miami. Don't get me wrong - there are very nice places and neighborhoods, but those are far and few between. It is NOT a safe place to raise children - not anymore.

Yea, like child abusers are going to take a break over the weekend.

Would children that young have physical education where they would have to change?

I just asked my husband if I can change the world, and make it safe for all children.... he responded "you can try baby, you can try, but it is a big big world" :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead: Why can't we save every child???? I HATE these stories, but I keep reading, learning, and trying..... To change the world we live in :rocker:
