Seems to be quite a bit of misdirection in this case. EG has to be considered the prime suspect, IMO. Was he ever questioned by Police ?

Missing for over 43 years...

“With parts removed from the vehicle we were quickly able to determine that this vehicle is an early 1970s Chevy Vega,” Sunshine State Sonar said on its Facebook page.

A member of Sunshine State Sonar told 8 On Your Side that by using an application called NamUs, they were able to see if there were any missing people last seen with a Vega.

As it turns out, there were 17-year-old twin sisters who were last seen in 1979 in a Chevrolet Vega, according to Sunshine State Sonar. Their names were Peggy and Patty McDaniel.

The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children said the twin sisters were last seen in the area of Pompano Beach on Sept. 15, 1979. If they were still alive, the sisters would be 61 years old.

The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System website, which is run by the U.S. Department of Justice, said the twins were supposed to be going to a disco called The Plank. Four days later, an associate of theirs was found dead in the trunk of a car.

I live a half mile from where the car was found. They can’t see it well, but they were able to take some parts from it to identify it as a 70’s Vega. Back in 79 the road was just a two lane road with fields and cows. There was a large subdivision close, but not close enough to have heard a car going into the water. The road back then also had a curve near the water. If they were in this area for some reason and went off the road at the curve, their car would end up exactly where this particular car has been found. The newspaper article in a previous post mentioned four women found on a man’s property. Two have not been identified, although it didn’t seem like they think it is the girls. However, the man’s property is 50 minutes north of where the car is and back in the late 70s the two lane road was frequently used to go north to that area and others north of Tampa bay. The sonar group that found the car were looking for a missing woman, Brenda Starr, who disappeared in 95’ after dropping off her daughter at our nearby elementary school.

Wow! If it is their Vega it's 4+ hours away from their last location.
BUT it is basically a route they could take if going between Pompano Beach and Live Oak if avoiding the interstate. Especially if navigating by paper maps. And I think these are reasonable assumptions to make given their ages and the times. Heck- I have a sibling in her 50s who has never, not once ever- driven on an interstate highway.

I hope we hear who the car owner was and if they’re ok. Chevy Vegas were more of a sports car so it could have been an insurance claim.

Regarding Weeki Wachee connection, they have identified all but one male and one female. Othram is currently involved.

Patty and Peggy McDaniel were 17 years old in 1979 when they moved to Live Oak, Florida with their father, leaving behind their mother, Joyce Rivituso, and sister, Paula McDaniel Hovely, who was 13 years old at the time.

According to their family, it wasn't long before Patty and Peggy were in trouble after meeting two men in Live Oak who eventually moved with them to the Pompano Beach area.

"The girls were actually being groomed for human trafficking there in Live Oak," said Hovely, who, along with her mother, spoke virtually with FOX 13.

In September 1979, before Rivituso could rescue Patty and Peggy, her daughters vanished. Another man they'd been connected to, according to reports, turned up dead at around the same time as their disappearance.

"It's like they just disappeared off the face of the earth," Rivituso said. "I was torn. I was hysterical a lot of times."

"The two men that the girls disappeared with," added Hovely, "they told the police that they saw the girls last leaving in a white Chevy Vega with some hippie looking dudes."

According to the owners of Sunshine State Sonar, divers with the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office did not find any signs of human remains in the submerged car.

A spokesperson for the Broward County Sheriff's Office added there is no indication so far that the vehicle is connected to the case of the missing twins. Even if this car is not connected to the girls' case, their loved ones aren't going to give up searching for answers.
