Markeith Loyd quiet as jury selection process begins (with clip)
Jury selection begins in murder trial of Markeith Loyd
Sept 27, 2019
"ORLANDO, Fla. —
Selecting a jury for the first trial of Markeith Loyd could take several weeks.
That was made clear during the first day of the process Friday.
This trial is for the death of Loyd's ex-girlfriend, Sade Dixon, and the baby she was carrying at the time of the killing.
Loyd is also accused of killing Orlando Police Lt. Debra Clayton, but will be tried separately for that case....
The jurors were told: if selected, they'll be sequestered...
Lenamon said he may motion for a continuance, since a psychologist determines Loyd's sanity at the time of the killings.
“My client had a continuing belief that the police wanted to kill him,” he said.
Without a formal motion, though, the judge said the trial is moving on.
Jury selection continues Tuesday, since the courthouse is closed Monday. Once a jury is seated, the trial is expected to last at least two weeks or more. Court will be held on Saturdays during the trial."
