Yes, very sad! I'm thinking she must have overdosed on something. The co-worker said she was introverted. I would think being married to a tugboat captain would be a lonely life (sadly she never even made it to married). Just seems she went to a lot of trouble to commit suicide if indeed that is what happened. Then again, I just learned about self-immolation a few months ago from los.
Not sure what you mean. Isn't self immolation suicide as a sacrifice? What are you seeing that I am not?

Not directed to me, but I'll weigh in. I adore you BOOTS, but am compelled to make sure that no one thinks that so I am replying quickly. Don't mean to step on your toes, Promise!

No, it is not. Phew. no no no. But los knew A LOT about A LOT.

Sadly, it's been more than a few months too...

we miss you and love you, los!

I didn't know. Oh my gosh! I'm so sorry. I feel so privileged to have known him here at Websleuths. Oh, he really wanted Pastor Carol's case solved. Her case bothers me a lot. Anyway, so sorry guys.

Sorry Razz. I don't think that response was how I meant it to come out. I think her death is suspicious. LE doesn't think she was wearing any shoes. I just don't see her walking 2 miles only to jump off the highway into the marsh.

Gonna take a little break! BBL!

From the thread it sounds like Los was a beloved websleuths member who posted regularly and shared a lot of valuable info.

Regarding self immolation...one of my coworkers committed suicide this way. She was a kindergarten teacher for 40+ years... retired with a killer pension...and then a year or so later poured kerosene over herself and lit fire in her brother's basement. I always thought it was because she really hated him and wanted to make a statement.

I was furious at her for years for going out that way because I kept thinking of all the kids who loved her that would have to think about that.

RIP Suzanne. :(

Where did this manner of suicide in this case come from?

Nothing yet. This article says neighbors are frustrated.

The department has not returned several phone calls over the past few days seeking information on Carlson and whether foul play is suspected. Many of her neighbors had expressed frustration in social media over the lack of information coming from the police and want to know if they should be extra vigilant in the event her death was a homicide.

About 7:30 p.m. Dec. 28, Carlson’s fiance, James Pontal, a tug boat captain, called police and said he just came back to land and had not spoken to her in 24 hours. He said when he arrived at the home, the shower was running and the garage door was open as were two screen doors, according to the incident report. He said Carlson’s purse was gone, but her car was still there.

The police reports say Carlson’s phone was tracked about 80 feet from her home at 5:04 a.m that day, but the phone had since been turned off.

OK so I guess they verified that he was actually on the ship

The Jax Medical examiners office has been all over the news lately because bodies are piling up in the morgue and the ME has no room. On one day mentioned, every table was full and one body was on the floor. She's been asking for help for a while. Today, the news reported that the coroner is still doing autopsies from 2017 and we're five days into the new year. So it may be a while. Gov't is trying to get the ME a refrigerated trailer as a temp solution but more room and staff are necessary.

From my point of view, the boyfriend/fiance's story is checking out okay too.

There is a neighbor who physically opened their door to Suzanne. I was looking for a link to quote.

This is awful, and yes it is happening in many, many places. It is very sad! And scary.

Hmmmm... This article says boyfriend did not live with Suzanne and he had purchased the home in September.

Carlson had been reported missing from her Jacksonville Beach house by her boyfriend, James Pontal on Dec. 28. According to a report from the Jacksonville Beach Police Department, Pontal had been unable to get ahold of Carlson since Dec. 27, so he went to her house.

Though he did not live with her, he did have a key to the home, which he’d purchased in September of 2017.

I can’t get over how much this reminds me of the Shannon Gilbert / Long Island case. I don’t think suicide is the proper term, based on the shower running, doors open, and knocking on neighbor’s doors, though I think she may have accidentally killed herself.

I think someone could have been "messing" with Suzanne's mind. I agree this case reminds me of Shannon Gilbert's tragic story. I haven't followed the LISK cases much except for Shannon Gilbert. I believe some people believe there is a connection between LISK and Florida. ?

It was reported that the person who asked for a "welfare check" December 4th (identity redacted in the official report - was not the fiance though) told LE that Suzanne lived alone and groom-to-be had canceled the wedding. She had not shown up for work for 2 days.

Pontal was Suzanne's emergency contact. When LE contacted him, he said he hadn't seen or heard from her either.

Twenty minutes after the call for a welfare check, LE was able to contact Suzanne. This welfare check is part of the ongoing investigation.
