I’m north of Boston for my brothers funeral this week. I could only find one highly rated restaurant that I could eat at. Not to be a snob but with food allergies, I need them to offer safe, correctly made items.

The Fat Greek. Well, I didn’t know some places mix the type of meats in their Gyros. I ordered the one with lamb and beef. Thought it was odd but no other combo was appealing. I was unimpressed. The two flavors together were not tasty to me. The meat was over cooked and dry. The tzatiki was excellent tho. There were 6 seasoned French fries stuffed on top inside. Ok that was weird but I pulled them off and they were tasty.

I went to the grocery store for tea and snacks. Dinner was tea, a handful of sea salt chips and 2 mini Milky Way candies. When you’re more tired than hungry.....

Sorry for your loss. I grew up in Boston and I’ve had to become a “snob” too - spouse is allergic to wheat, dairy, and coconut.

Anyway - I adore tzatziki with lots of garlic. I really like one brand - The Farm at Red Hill. It’s at Whole Foods. Around $5 for 8oz container but worth it!

Sorry you have lost your brother xX

Hampton Inn free breakfast was mediocre. Better lunch food today, at Athens Pizza, mainly because it’s pretty darn hard to screw up a Chicken Cesar salad. Chicken was seasoned and very tasty. Dressing was a bit peppery but tolerable.

Meeting up with my niece tonight. She’s picking the place. Stay tuned.

Flew home last night. My good friend picked me up and we went to Metro Diner. It was Nat’l Hamburger Day or something like that. I got a bacon cheeseburger & fries. After a week of crappy food, it was delicious. I picked off a lot of the bun. Too much bread for me. Their fries are good but I only ate about 1/4 of them.

My friend got their “breakfast burger” which was a burger that had an egg, hash browns, hollandaise sauce, bacon, tomato and lettuce. She said it was delicious too. Her side was green beans. You know to balance out the healthy. LOL!

Thanks for all the condolences. It has been a tough few weeks. I have not felt like fixing meals nor have I gone to my food distributions. Sigh. Maybe next week.

Tomorrow one of my good friends is having a graduation party for her youngest. I offered to make salami rolls and a relish tray. Thought maybe that might put me back in food prep mode.

Finished the salami rolls just now.

1/2 lb Genoa Salami sliced thin.
4-5 dill pickles diced and dried a bit on a paper towel. That way they’re not too juicy.
Half a package of cream cheese.

Lay the salami on paper towels to absorb the grease. Dice the pickles really small. Pour them on a paper towel to soak up some of the juice. Spread the softened cream cheese on the salami, top with pickles and roll them up. Chill before serving. It made 20 salami rolls. I ate 2! LOL!

Sometimes, the simplest things are delicious. I made a very simple omelet today, with fresh chives. It was so delicious. I added a spice, that I like, local to Montana. It is a mix of salt, pepper, nutme(?). Perfect on eggs.
Alpine Touch Pick 4 Spice Pack

So nice to have fresh herbs now.
We had an omelette here too! We felt tempted to jump off the healthy eating wagon and managed to resist by making a sort of pizza flavoured one with tomatoes, cheese, onions and oregano :D

I love eggs. Was just looking at something, I am going to make this tomorrow, vegetarian for me, with a hamburger for my husband.

And this...definitely on the rotation this week. I have new lettuce to use.

We went to Picano's for dinner last night. I'm sure they're adhering to the 50% capacity limit, but it was nice to see the restaurant fairly busy. We went at 5:00 because Picano's tends to get busy after 6:00. We requested our favorite waitress and were seated at a table near the fireplace in the Caesar (banquet) room. At that time, there was a long table with a family gathering for a first communion celebration. As they waited for other guests to arrive, they were talking and sharing photos on their respective phones. We ordered a light, crisp Pinot Grigio because it was too hot for red wine. We are in the midst of a major heatwave here in southeastern lower Michigan that will continue for another couple of days.

Our waitress was also taking care of the large group, so we told her that we were not in a hurry and for her to take care of the family gathering while we enjoyed our wine and garlic rolls with olive oil. When we were ready to order, DH decided on Chicken Parmesan, and I had the exquisite pickerel, lightly crusted and served with Amogio sauce on the side. I'm not crazy about the tangy tomato sauce with fish and prefer lemon to enhance fish. We've been enjoying dinner at Picano's
every 10 days or so but are somewhat reluctant to go anywhere else. It's a large venue with multiple dining rooms, so it's easy to spread patrons out in the different rooms. Masks are not required if diners are fully vaccinated, and there were some folks wearing masks when entering, leaving, or moving about the restaurant. Some staff still wearing masks, but they are not required if waitstaff/assistants are vaccinated. We stopped at Nino's on the way home to pick up a few items so neither of us had to go out in the unbearable heat today. I've assemble a large pasta casserole for dinner tonight using a lot of veggie leftovers and fresh mozzarella. Oven shouldn't have to be on too long. DH requested chicken salad for tomorrow: He'll grill the chicken breasts, and I'll put the salad together.

What a lovely post! Thank you for sharing your food adventures.
We will have to try Picano’s one day.

Birthday Dinner! My husband turned 82 yesterday. We didn't go out last year. This year we went to the Willow Creek Cafe. If you want to read a story featuring Montana and "Willow Creek", it is "Blind Your Ponies" by West.

My husband had Kung Pow ribs, I had Cajun Shrimp pasta. And we invented a new drink...

Peach Crown Royale Boilermaker..yum! Hefeweisen. Super yum!

Today I met up with my quilting friend for lunch. We tried a new to us place along the river. Our booth was under the awning and had plexiglass between the booths. The end was open so we had a lovely breeze and view. I wore my mask and so did a few others.

We both decided on fried Grouper bites with coleslaw and fries. I got regular fries and she had sweet potato fries. The only thing they could do to improve the meal was add a little salt to the fish batter. It was good but we both thought it needed salt. The coleslaw was not a cream based slaw, it had some type of clear dressing and was fresh. The whole meal was very tasty and we would go again. Fresh grouper is generally pricey anyway but I felt like the quantity and quality was worth it. My total bill including iced tea and tip was $25 but it was a nice treat.

Looks like a nice place! We hope to get down that way this winter. We usually go for spring training ( Go Tigers!) to Tampa but I don’t thing I can wait that long this year. A winter break from the snow is in the plans. We missed our annual trip last year due to Covid.

DH and I usually go on a cruise in late January/early February for my birthday. In fact, Covid was just starting to take hold in the U.S. the weekend that we returned from our January, 2020 cruise. We made a future cruise deposit but haven't booked a cruise yet because neither of us is comfortable with being on a ship with several thousand passengers from all over the world. If we don't book a sailing by January of next year, we'll request a refund of our $200 deposit.

Under much different circumstances than we encountered with Covid over the past 16 months, we had planned on a Mediterranean cruise for our 50th wedding anniversary on June 25 this year. Obviously, that won't happen, and we're not sure how we feel about a transcontinental flight and cruise in the foreseeable future. By the time Covid restrictions were lifted in Michigan, it was too late to plan an anniversary weekend on Mackinac weekend, but we plan to go in the fall when tourist season has ended and the island is less crowded. We'll be noting how cruises go over the coming months before deciding whether we'd do a cruise in early 2022. If cruising is going well post-Covid, we'll consider a week or 10-night sailing. If not, we'll consider a staycation at a nice resort where there's plenty of sun and warmth, a pool or two, fine dining, and a comfy, cozy room with a view.

Had an amusing experience at a new Mexican restaurant this weekend. I went out to eat with three of my friends. This was a non-traditional Mexican place, very fancy with a beautiful, spacious patio.

The menu detailed fancier entrees like burritos and tacos containing shrimp/scallops/steak or chicken/pork/shrimp or salmon/steak in combination. The photos beside each entree were beautiful, but the entrees looked HUGE.

On the last page at the very bottom there was a small box with more traditional Mexican fare. It was entitled “build your own combo” and said you could mix and match 3 mini tacos, mini burritos, enchiladas, or tamales, and the combo included rice and beans. When it was my turn to order I requested a “build your own combo” with a mini taco, mini burrito, and tamale. The server didn’t understand me, and seemed quite puzzled, and she seemed to speak only a little English. So I turned to the page in the menu and pointed to the “build your own” mini burrito, etc. section.

She told me they didn’t have any more tamales, so I said, “That’s ok, just two mini burritos and a mini taco then”

She said loudly, “You want TWO burritos??”
I pointed again to the build your own mini combo, and she wrote on her pad and walked away.

When she brought the food out she placed two large platters in front of me, each had a giant sized burrito accompanied with rice, beans, and a small salad. Piled on to one of the burrito platters was a taco. There was a side plate with sour cream, salsa, and shredded lettuce.

She had misunderstood me and thought I had ordered two burrito platters and a taco.

I took 2/3 of that meal home in a box.

Well, no need to do meal prep! Divide it up and freeze it! LOL!
