The majority of the letter attacks Buting/Strang and what they did wrong, but there are a few tidbits in there that I thought were interesting:
Lack of experts for blood spatter, EDTA, bones
Didn't re-enact the "shaking of the bookcase" as reported by Colborn.
They didn't follow up on the dog tracks.
They missed that there were 6 barrels.
They didn't investigate Randant's alibi.
They ignored the evidence in the quarry.
They didn't do anything when the investigators threatened some family to say what they want or they would be put in jail (or take things from them)
Here are my thoughts, without going back into documents to search specific things. The barrels.... there was always something wrong with those dang barrels. One went to the lab and back to the property and then back to the lab. I have read posts by others on reddit who went to great lengths and details to try to figure out the barrels, I have not found one yet that made any sense of them!!!!
The bookcase.... lets be honest, Colborn lied, even if the key was not planted, he lied about shaking it. It just does not make sense, period. There is no way, no how that he shook it the way he said and the paper/coins/remote remained in the same spots they were in before he shook the key lose. (isn't this one of the things the jurors asked for to? the pictures of the bookcase?) This was my push to leaning to the innocent/framed side of the fence, if they planted the key, why? and what would stop them from planting everything else?
The dog tracking, Randant and the quarry all kinda go together for me. One of the dogs tracked from SA's property through the quarry to a cul-de-sac, which was near the deer camp, owned by Randant. Randant was on the scene day 1, he is the first person to mention a fire, he admits to being at the deer camp that day, and now I am not even sure his "alibi" was looked into, or did he even have one? His statement said something about at shift change he drove to the deer camp and noticed the fire, did they check with those employees? The quarry where the "not determined to be human" were found in the quarry. I know this is a rabbit hole, but them bones!!!!!! The first forensic anthropologist that examined the bones (sorry, can't remember the name, but he was retired and they went to him because Eisenberg was away), it's stated in docs that it was an iliac/ilium bone and the only record I see of a bone referenced to as an iliac crest bone was found in the quarry!!!! Maybe I missed something, but this has always bothered me!
Anyway.... I think the fact that he is mentioning Randant in a letter a month before something is due to be filed is interesting! I don't know if he has been on "my list", but I did find it odd that he was the first to mention the fire and no one in the family or otherwise mentions it. Note: I still don't think there was a fire that night and the family was either convinced by LE that there was after being told repeatedly that there must have been or maybe they were told to say it.... like the letter implies? I have always thought it was more of a 'false memory' thing, but will be interesting to see what the family has to say now. I know that Barb has mentioned on facebook that ST and Bobby were told what to say (not in those words, but I don't feel like researching... I know, I'm slipping lol)
oh and..... Buting being the classy guy he is responded on twitter tonight....

Please don't blame S Avery for his misdirected frustration. In his spot we'd all be unhappy. Dean & I still support his cause for justice.
Ineffective counsel is always a part of an appeal, and I'm sure there are things that they wish they had done differently, I remember reading the testimony and thinking 'omg, why didn't they ask this.... or that..." Regardless, great response from Buting IMO
Sorry for the long post. It's been awhile and when I read this earlier, I thought I would bring over here to share
Take a bow my friend, EXCELLENT post:takeabow::yourock::goodpost:
