Right after I posted my thoughts on location, I was already questioning what I had posted because I was not sure what we should use as Morgans home. But reviewing the chart, I should not have been using the frame of reference for Morgan because her Father was the Querent, so I should have picked the Fathers home, not Morgans condo as "Where she lays her head". I also am confused about which "side of the map" to take for East/West. We know that the Ascendant is not true East, the anti-vertex is the true compass East. (Lavoie). Soooooo, if you flip East and West like it would be on the map, the chart is pretty accurate. I took the closest value for succedant house, should have widened the scope there.

But to move along, how should we document and evaluate these chart indications. I was thinking about running the charts several different ways, and making a forensic critical evaluation of each of them.

Like this:
Chart One ....................Chart Two.............................Chart Three
Last Seen ...................911 Call...............................Other (significant event)

Taking these three charts, and using several different ways to analyze.

Lilly (Lee Lehman)
Simmonite (Ivy Goldstein-Jacobson)
Jones (Anthony Louis)
Lavoie (He grabs a little of something from everyone, and tweaks it.)

I would like suggestions from y'all as to what you think. I love record keeping, and looking back to rectify and see what was missed. Lilly kept detailed records of his work, and constantly reviewed the charts. This is how he became a master of the art. Should we begin a critical review to try and determine the best way to determine direction and distance?

Vaire

**we were right about "on the ground, in a field"** How I would love to walk around this area and see what the lay of the land is like...........

Excellent question, Vaire, as this one always puzzles me, too. Let's hope someone else can shed light on it.

As for your other observations/questions, I'll step aside and let I'll experts interpret them and respond, as it is late and I'm beginning to get a nasty headache and makes computer reading nearly impossible. I do hope someone has answers for you/us.

Rest In Peace, Morgan.

Police 'fairly certain' remains are student missing from Metallica concert
January 26, 2010 10:46 p.m. EST
<snipped>
Police said skeletal remains were found after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday by a farmer driving a tractor through a hay field on his 700-acre farm. The area has no public access point, police said.

The farm is about 10 miles from where the concert was being held.

The farm's owner, David Dass, told CNN affiliate WTVR that he was out looking for damage after wind and rain knocked down several trees in his yard over the past week. He told WTVR that the area is at least a mile and a half from a main roadway.

"I looked down and saw what looked like a human skull, and my first thought was that it was Morgan Harrington," Dass told WTVR, adding that he immediately called 911.

Gil Harrington expressed concerns Saturday that there was beginning to be complacency in the search, she wrote in a blog on the Web site set up to help find their daughter.

On Sunday, more than three months after Morgan went missing, Gil Harrington still clung to hope.

"Despite the length of time Morgan has been gone I remain hopeful," she wrote. "Part of me is waiting to be surprised. Waiting for God to pull the rabbit out of the hat and bring Morgan home.

"I remember that the light always returns, it cannot help but return. Will the light of my life return soon? I cannot imagine that all the water of Morgan's potential is to run down the drain and be wasted. Can it really play out like that?"

Now, it appears, the Harringtons finally have their answer. Police say they have now switched their focus to finding out how Morgan Harrington ended up in the remote farm and who put her there.

Harrington Case Becomes A Criminal Investigation

State police remain steadfast that this is a homicide investigation. They are asking how this body ended up in a remote farm field, and who is responsible for it being there.

Seven hours after investigators started searching the 700-acre southern Albemarle farm there was a somber announcement from state police.

Virginia State Police Lieutenant Joe Rader says tips never led them in to Tuesday's discovery. "Just because a body is found in a particular location doesn't mean that it would have been prudent to search that particular location at that time."

Investigators would not pinpoint exactly what evidence they found at the scene to make them believe the body is Harrington's.

Colonel Flaherty says, "There are significant items of evidence that makes us fairly confident that scientific procedure will confirm the ID."

Lt. Rader says, "This is an important step for us in this investigation. We now have something to look at to lead us in a new direction. We still proceed as if this is a homicide and most likely will be a homicide. We have a perpetrator or perpetrators at large that we certainly intend to catch and to prosecute."

A positive identification from the medical examiner could come as soon as Wednesday.

Virginia State Police say skeletal remains have been found on Anchorage Farm on Route 29 in southern Albemarle County. Early reports indicate the remains are that of a young woman with long blond hair. She was wearing dark clothing and a bracelet.

Bass was riding on his tractor about 8:30 Tuesday morning when he made the discovery. Bass is baffled about the remains ended up in a remote part of his farm.

Bass says, "It's an inaccessible place. I couldn't get my pickup there. My tractor, my four wheel driver, I guess."

A State Police helicopter took to the air, searching for potential clues from the sky. The lead investigator on the Morgan Harrington case, Lieutenant Joe Rader, arrived on the scene just after 12:30 p.m.

Melissa Byrd, a friend of the Harrington family enroute to Richmond, stopped along the road. Byrd says, "She just touched so many people, the description of her, her personality. It's just so sad and scary."

A Gentle Tribute On Copeley Road

A body was found about seven miles from UVA's Copeley Road Bridge. That's the last place Morgan Harrington was seen October 17th, and the site of a make-shift memorial; a memorial that has new meaning for some now.

Fresh cut flowers and heavy hearts line the Copeley Road Bridge. Elizabeth Wilkinson went to high school with Morgan Harrington and is now a fourth-year at UVA. "It's halfway a blessing and it's halfway really depressing just to see how many people care about her, " she says.

Tuesday night, cards and a single candle marked the spot where Harrington was last seen alive. As news spread that State Police are "fairly confident" they've found her remains, emotions were running high.

Students have been stopping by the Copeley Road Bridge all night Tuesday. Just after 7:00 p.m. there were just a few items, but the memorial has grown quite a bit since then.

The weeks and months leading up to this day have been grueling. Morgan's parents have been forced to do what no parent should have to. They've had to hold out hope, and at the same time brace for the worst. Here's a look back at the events surrounding her disappearance.

October 17th, 2009, 20-year-old Morgan Harrington is excited about a big night out to see Metallica at the John Paul Jones Arena, but she would never see the band. Morgan broke the rules, and walked outside the arena. When she couldn't get back in, she wandered away and no one has seen her since.

Three weeks later, police divulge that University of Virginia basketball players admit they saw Morgan the night she vanished, but they don't know what happened. Then in early December, the Harringtons give investigators Morgan's dental records. As 2009 closes, police admit leads are drying up.

Just about two weeks ago, the Harringtons made the trip to Charlottesville from Roanoke for another update with police on the investigation. Now, they wait again, to possibly hear the news that could solve the mystery of what happened to their daughter.

Harrington case could turn into homicide investigation after autopsy
Published: January 26, 2010

After months of searching, police believe they have found missing 20-year-old Virginia Tech Student Morgan Harrington, but it’s not the outcome they were hoping for.

“We’re fairly confident at this time that the remains are those of Morgan Harrington, said Virginia State Police Superintendent Colonel Steven Flaherty.

“At the time that Ms. Harrington would have disappeared the hayfield would have been up to about your waist,“ said Lt. Joe Rader with State Police. “Of course you know it has snowed since then, so a lot of things have happened since October that could have impacted the opportunity and ability to see these remains.“

“Once that confirmation is made we certainly move into a new stage of this investigation,“ said Rader, which will most likely be a homicide investigation.

“We have to sort the tips out, do our interviews and come to logical conclusions to find who’s responsible for the remains of Morgan Harrington, which we believe it will be Morgan,“ added Rader.

UPDATED: State police are confident remains are Morgan Harrington
January 27, 2010

Investigators say there is significant evidence to suggest the remains are Morgan Harrington's, but wouldn't elaborate.

They also wouldn't say if there are any obvious signs as to how she died.

State Police have received over 600 tips about this case over the last few months.

Investigators stress they need even more.

While State Police search for answers, friends and family being the grieving process.

At the bridge where Morgan was last seen a candle is now lit, a reminder that a young woman can now rest in peace.

The area where the body was found is far off the beaten path. The remains might have stayed there undiscovered, if not for the harsh winter weather that had damaged fences on the more than 700 acre cattle farm.

News7's Jean Jadhon spoke briefly with the Harrington's while they were on their way to Charlottesville.

Morgan's father Dan said he was using the drive time to process what was going on.

Remains likely Tech student Morgan Harrington's
A body thought to be Morgan Harrington, of Roanoke County, was found in Albemarle County.
Wednesday, January 27, 2010
<snipped>
How she died, when she died and even where she died are now the questions Virginia State Police are trying to find answers to as they scour the hayfield less than 10 miles south of Charlottesville, where Harrington was last seen alive after disappearing from a rock concert.

While state police are waiting for the medical examiner's office in Richmond to make a definitive identification of the body, the search for Harrington is now a search for her killer.

"This was a seriously decomposed body," said David Bass, owner of the 742-acre Anchorage Farm, explaining why he did not immediately recognize the remains as human. Bass said the rough field where he found Harrington was one and a half miles from his 19th-century farmhouse, hard against a mountain and one that he seldom walks over.

Rader said the private farm along U.S. 29 was never searched, and at the time of Harrington's disappearance, the grass in the field was waist-high. There is no public access to the field, he added.

Harrington's Northside High School friends -- scattered at universities from Newport News to Harrisonburg to Blacksburg -- drove to Roanoke when they learned her body may have been found.

"Some of us are taking it a lot harder than others," said Chelsea Helm, a Virginia Tech student. "We just all want to be together right now."

Dental records supplied by the Harrington family provided enough evidence for the state medical examiner to determine that the remains belonged to the Virginia Tech student who had been missing for 101 days.

A statement issued on behalf of Morgan's father, Dr. Dan Harrington is below:

"Morgan's mother, Gil, and I are overwhelmingly saddened by yesterday's discovery, but we are also relieved because our questions can now be answered and we can give our daughter a proper burial. We know that because of the good life Morgan led and the love she created for everyone around her, she is now in a safer, better place. We appreciate everyone's respect for our privacy at this difficult time and we thank everyone who has helped us through this tragedy and helped us find Morgan."

Remains confirmed as Morgan Harrington’s

1:12 p.m.

The parents of Morgan Harrington believe a “local person” in the Charlottesville area knew about the remote farm where their daughter’s remains were found on Tuesday, and is responsible for her death.

Dan and Gil Harrington held a news conference with reporters a few minutes ago. Dr. Dan Harrington opened by saying the results of the case were “not what we had hoped for,“ but added that it does offer some closure for the family.

Dr. Harrington stated that he believes Morgan was murdered, and the family will not rest until her killer has been found. State Police said on Tuesday that it is possible that Morgan’s case will become a homicide investigation at some point. Investigators are waiting for full autopsy results on Morgan’s remains, to hopefully determine how she died.

Morgan’s mother Gil Harrington said the sorrow the family feels is “etched into our faces.“ She added that for the first time in 131 days, she felt “faint tindrils of hope” not having to think of what someone is doing to her daughter. Gil Harrington also said her daughter “had some lovely bones,“ ostensibly a reference to the book and movie about a different murdered child.

Dr. Harrington said they had not been to the field itself, but State Police flew he and his wife over the field in a helicopter on Tuesday.

Dr. Harrington says the family plans to regroup and figure out how to honor Morgan’s life. He added that the family plans to go forward with Morgan’s work, volunteering with mental health groups.

Morgan’s parents plan to talk about their daughter and the case, at a news conference later this afternoon.

10 On Your Side’s Scott Leamon is in Charlottesville today. He’ll bring you what the Harrington’s have to say and where the case stands, tonight on WSLS at 5, 5:30, 6, and 7 p.m.

Hundreds of people who never knew Morgan Harrington have felt compelled to mark her passing with their thoughts and prayers on Facebook and Twitter. It presents an interesting new role for the social media sites.

While cards and posters pile up along the Copeley Road Bridge for the Harringtons, lots of you are also heading online to pay your respects to the family.

More than 33,000 people are remembering Morgan Harrington on Facebook. A Twitter search for her name turns up pages of responses just one day after her body was found in Albemarle County.

The posts are sharing thoughts and prayers with Dan and Gil Harrington. It's a new way people are grieving, regardless of where they live or whether they had ever met the Harringtons.

UVA clinical psychologist Dr. Peters Sheras says, "When we have an event like this a lot of people relate to it at a lot of levels, so social networking has really opened up a way for these people to be in communication with one another, whether in fact they knew the person or not."

Dr. Sheras says the social networking sites are replacing a sympathy card or phone call, especially among young people.

Hundreds of people are also turning to the NBC29 web site. In the last 24 hours more than 200 posts have flooded NBC29 discussion boards.

Harringtons Seek Closure On Copeley Bridge

It is now confirmed: State police and the medical examiners office say the body found Tuesday on an Albemarle County farm was that of Morgan Harrington. That makes this 102 days since she vanished and one day into the murder investigation.

It has been a busy day for police and for Morgan's family. Evidence teams are still out at the farm, investigators are trying to find a killer and Dan and Gil Harrington are trying to figure out a way to put their lives back in order.

Although questions remain concerning the cause and time of death, the Harrington family expressed their gratitude to investigators and their relief in finding some closure to the case. It was an emotional return Wednesday for Dan and Gil Harrington, a trip back to the place where their daughter, Morgan, was last seen alive: the Copeley Road Bridge.

"I will tell you having seen," said Gil Harrington. "That girl even had some lovely bones."

"We were hoping to find Morgan alive but at least we now have some peace and we're able to have some closure," said Dan Harrington.

"I am happy that she was not alive long enduring unspeakable things," said Gil Harrington.

The Harrington's hope to have Morgan's remains next week. They want to plan a public memorial for their daughter and put a permanent marker up on the Copeley Street Bridge.

Forensic science expert weighs in on Harrington investigation
Published: January 27, 2010
Updated: January 27, 2010
<snipped>
More than 100 days passed from the last time Morgan Harrington was seen alive, to when her skeletal remains were found. While it may seem investigators don’t have much to work with, a forensic science expert weighs in on what could help lead to a suspect.

“From a little piece of bone, you can find a suspect.“, says Dr. Tod Burke. Burke is a forensic science expert at Radford University. He is not associated with the Harrington case.

“Anytime you have remains, that’s of forensic value.“, says Burke. “Sure it would be ideal for an investigator to just approach the scene and have a fresh body.“

Burke says a suspect might assume a remote location, like where Morgan’s remains were found, would guarantee a body would never be found. He says the location, however, could work to the suspect’s disadvantage.

“It’s not heavily traveled. So you don’t have a lot of people coming and going.“, says Burke. “Whereas if a body were dumped in a suburban or city area where you have a lot of movement, the chances of being seen are greater but the forensic value may be contaminated.“

The massive snow, that likely covered the remains and delayed searches for Morgan, could preserve a body. Warmer temperatures could speed up decomposition.

“There was hot weather, there was warm weather, there was cold weather all could play a role in body decomposition.“, says Burke.

Burke says don’t discount the possibility of DNA evidence, especially on any clothing Morgan was still wearing when she was found.

He’s confident whether it’s days from now, or years, we will find out what happened to Morgan.

“The forensic evidence is there.“ says Burke. “A suspect is there.“

Dan and Gil Harrington said they wanted to be on the same bridge where their daughter, Morgan, was last seen alive to explain the pain they’ve been going through since an Albermarle County farmer discovered her remains.

We now need to find the person who did this and we will not stop until that person is brought to justice,“ Dan Harrington said, Morgan’s father.

“I wanted it to be clear when you see us that our pain has been etched in our faces. Our sorrow has been carved into our hearts,“ Gil Harrington said, Morgan’s mother.

The Harringtons said they had met with state police investigators for two and a half hours before they talked to reporters on the University of Virginia’s campus.

Dan Harrington said the family plans to meet face-to-face with investigators every other week.

He said police allowed them to see the field where Morgan’s body was discovered by flying over it in a helicopter.

Virginia Tech students cope with another loss

Students at Virginia Tech have gone through heartbreaking times from the mass shootings on April 16th to a murder on campus in a café. There’s still the unsolved murders of David Metzler and Heidi Childs.

On Tuesday, there was the discovery of Morgan Harrington’s remains.

“As a whole, it’s a very close community. And I was here through April 16th, so it’s something I’ve always kind of known and felt,” said Erin Moore, a student.

“You see vigils and a lot of people talking about it. It’s in The Collegiate Times,” said Kara Dodson.

Students here say it’s through the use of social networking sites that they keep in touch with what’s going on and also help reach out to each other. Others say all the tragic news that’s been happening here happens in other communities as well, just that more attention is focused here.

“Terrible things happen and it’s not just us,” Dodson said.

But the focus remains on this community and how the students are dealing with the losses.

Harrington parents speculate someone local killed Morgan
January 27, 2010
<snipped>
UPDATED: Wednesday afternoon
Police said the confirmation was based on dental records provided by Harrington's family.

Dan Harrington told reporters Wednesday it could be another five or six days before the medical examiner releases Morgan's remains.

Investigators are still looking into the cause and time of death.

PARENTS REACT TO NEWS THEIR DAUGHTER WAS FOUND
While authorities were back out at the farm Wednesday canvassing the area for additional evidence, Dan and Gil Harrington, Morgan's parents, met with reporters at the Copeley Street Bridge Wednesday afternoon.

"We wanted to come here today because this is the last place that Morgan was seen before someone took her and murdered her," said Dan Harrington.

"For the first time in 101 days, I am not thinking every minute, ‘What is he doing to my daughter now? What is he doing to her? What is she having to endure? We are happy to have resolution," said Gil Harrington. "We are happy to know that Morgan very likely, as Dan has said, did not live through the time of the concert. She was a long time in that field. I am happy that she was not alive long, enduring unspeakable things."

"My understanding is that this is not a random place that someone came upon accidentally, this is known to someone here. It's a local person. And as I said all along, Morgan would be found five miles from this bridge, and it was probably a local person, and I'm sure I'm 100 percent right," said Dan Harrington.

Local forensic scientist offers insight into homicide investigations
January 27, 2010
<snipped>
While the discovery of Harrington's remains have ended the mystery of her location, it's just launched the investigation into who, how and why she was killed.

News7 spoke with a Radford University Professor about what happens when a missing person case turns into a homicide investigation.

Doctor Tod Burke explains the place where a body is found or dumped is key.

Every bit of forensic evidence speaks volumes for that victim.

We want to make sure everyone understands Doctor Burke is in NO way involved in the Harrington investigation.

The remote site where Morgan Harrington's remains were discovered is the only crime scene police have right now. It's from here - they'll have to piece together the rest of the story.

"Where the body is dumped doesn't necessarily mean where the crime occured," says RU Criminal Justice professor Tod Burke.

But Doctor Burke, explains, it tells plenty about the victim and the suspect.

"The dumping ground becomes critical because that probably means that the person is familiar with the area and because it's a remote area maybe they felt comfortable that their chances of getting caught are slim."

"Was there drag marks? That would tell you if the body had been moved prior to or if this was the exact location. You want to look for grass stains. Does it look like there's been a struggle?"

Although it's been three months since Harrington was seen alive, Burke reminds us that forensic evidence lasts a lifetime.

"There have been murders solved minutes after a crime. There have been murders solved 50, 60 years later."

Burke says solving this type of crime is typically not easy for investigators and they will likely rely on tips from the public.

The old method does consider the left side of the horizon cutting across the chart to represent East, in other words, takes the ASC for East. The East Point that some astrologers calculate and some software pinpoints can also be used for more accurate reference but it is there at the left station that is called East. House 10 or the Midheaven is South , the Nadir is North and the right station or Descendant is West. Those are all absolutes if you are going to work the old method.

The old method does not adequately serve modern time and distance factors because the number of miles in its calculations is too limited for travel in our time. Innovation is underway, using the horoscope as a map and reading it as you would a map. All directions are then reversed and it is necessary to calculate true north (as per the Pole Star), a compass point about 12° to the right of House 10. In laying the chart over a satellite capture of terrain, you therefore rotate your chart so that north is true. Shift clockwise 12°. What we have seen here of this method, brought to us by butterfly1978, finds the preponderance of planet weight in the chart and takes that as the direction to search, adding the degrees of the planets for the number of miles.

Although using one of these methods has proven satisfactory for us here in the past, neither method is accurate in the Morgan Harrington case. This is not the only case where the two methods have failed. Where does this leave us? Going down for the third time in the soup, because the most important clue we should be able to provide is the location of the runaway, the victim, the criminal.

There was an eclipse that preceded the Metallica Concert, an eclipse on the Mars of that night. That eclipse was charted in order to talk about the abductor. The intention was certainly not to use it to find Morgan. It's interesting that in that eclipse chart, Mercury rules the II House of endings--how it all turns out. Mercury is at 8° of Leo and pointing in the correct map direction. She was found 7+ miles from Copeley Bridge. II depicts the car travel involved. I am not making a recommendation that we use the previous eclipse for a LOCATOR. I consulted the eclipse because it was intimately connected to the violence on October 17--spot on! How often that would be a factor and helpful clue is hard to say.

Describing the Sun-Mars-Pluto suspect, Mars represents his bearing, his mien and it was aggressive and independent and bold. At zero degrees, he was champing with impatience and he is notably immature. He moves fast, is reckless and rash. All of this is shown as he waits in the arena environment and in the vehicle later: Mars at 0° in Leo House 3. Pluto is integrated into his brash personality but not comfortably. Pluto is also 0°, in quincunx to his Mars outward flow of force. He is at odds, at strain with Pluto and this isolates him and tells the astrologer he is eccentric and rebellious. There is a part of him that is more than willing to set others against him; he asks for trouble. There is no way that Pluto is not an element in his personal complex because the 150° aspect is exact. Pluto is in Capricorn and so he resents authority and structure and feels impeded and dominated by it.

Now we come to the Sun in Libra, also a vital descriptor of this suspect and dispositor of Mars in Leo. The Moon, which co-rules Morgan, was about to meet the Sun in a wobble. This was a most unstable individual. He is in the Air Sign of balance in a wobble square with the node and therefore, unbalanced. Very likely the suspect is an Air Sign as the Sun is in Aquarius now when Morgan is found.

This is the chart for the eclipse as experienced by the criminal. Eclipse right atop him.

Did they pass this area?
Why did somebody go through her purse?
I have a lot of questions about the car being left out there and she not being able to get into it or did she?
I do not understand her not having access to her own car and wanting to hitchike when her parents doubt she would do that..

I can't remember without rechecking every detail, but there were conflicting statements about that car. Has anyone ever told us the facts? Was it her car they brought to the arena, or someone else's? Thanks to anyone who knows offhand.

Thank you, Tuba, for explaining the location calculation. I thinking the best way to learn would be to go back to cases where the person was found, and if there are enough times, etc. listed, we could work up charts for ourselves. We have several we've already seen on this board, and I'm sure many of us know of other cases to study. That's how I learn astrology anyway.

Thanks for the explanation of the Sun-Mars-Pluto person, and the relation to the interesting eclipse, too.

I'd love to have their list of suspects, or "persons of interest".

On another site (that we cannot link here), it is said that these 2 kinds of cameras were mounted near the scene:

Cuddeback Scouting Camera
The Moultrie Game Spy

Is there anything in the charts that suggest the perp was caught on film, if so, will the images be helpful to LE?

The Moon and the Sun were trine Neptune, so there is such a possibility, yes and the Moon's trine would have been exact at 10:28 p.m. Standard Time, 11:28 p.m. using daylight savings time, which was still in effect. The Sun was trine Neptune all evening and night, within 1°. We also have helpful evidence on the ground, in the dirt, Mercury in Capricorn.

LE of course will look at all SO's in the area.

There happens to be a young VIOLENT offender, 20 yrs old who lives about a third of a mile from Anchorage Farm Road on Rt29 aka Monacan Trail.

The zip code used to look him up is
22959.

If someone has access to records, we would appreciate his date of birth.

Thank you.

5/29 is also what I'm coming up with from Albemarle Co. Court records.

5/29 is also what I'm coming up with from Albemarle Co. Court records.

I've been googling all the while. Cannot find exact year, or any year. Even VSP's site says 20, but no DOB.

Anyone else had any luck?

Facebook/MySpace? (I am not a member of either so I can't see anything when I try.)

County birth records are not available, to my knowledge, on any online source unless you passed in 1900.

In the offenders registry, he is input as 20 and in the court records 21merc7 & MBLover brought to us, the birthday is 29 May. If the age is correct, he does have exact ties to the event charts of the night. The age in the registry may be even two years off but he is meant to register frequently. His progressed Mars and the Mars of the charts are the same, 0° Leo.

Vaire, we should make a base for location results, right! What would be helpful for me, and what I will try to compile, is a thumbnail map with black lines to each planet position (no symbols, not even planets), just directional lines on a the tiny map and then a red star where the body or person was actually located. This is worth doing, definitely. We do carry a mental compass in our heads after casting charts, however, and so far, what is noticeable is the lack of a dependable rule directing us. Maybe the principle is just very well hidden. What I hope is not true is that each case is totally different and the directional clues for one do not translate to another.

I just wrote a long post about this individual and about mapping locations and then the connexion to our website was lost. I'll just say that, if born 1989 as per the registry and with the birthday in the court records, there are ties to the event charts. Some of these are positive but Howell has progressed Mars dead bang on the Mars of the night, 0° Leo. He is an Air Sign.

Who killed college student Morgan Harrington?
She vanished outside concert last October: ‘There’s a perpetrator out there’
updated 9:15 a.m. ET, Fri., Jan. 29, 2010
<snipped>
Someone abducted and murdered her 20-year-old daughter, police believe, but Gil Harrington doesn’t really care about punishing the perpetrator. She just wants a killer taken off the streets before he can cause another parent the pain she has felt.

“I am concerned and determined that he be caught for safety reasons, because this was not the first bad thing that this man did. Abduction and murder is not your entry level into a life of crime,” Harrington told TODAY’s Meredith Vieira Friday via satellite from her home in Roanoke, Va. “He’s done bad things before. He’s upped his game, and he’s likely to do something bad again unless we catch him.”

“This has been a horrific three months,” Dan Harrington said. “This is not the end that we wanted, but closure is really important. There is some peace, but we’re very sad. Obviously, we would like our daughter to be alive.”

‘Lovely bones, lovely girl’
For Gil Harrington, the discovery means an end to the waking nightmares she had lived with, imagining that her daughter might be alive and suffering unspeakable horror at the hands of her abductor. Police believe now that Morgan Harrington died not long after she went missing.

“It has been like a wound, a huge wound, but until this point it had been a festering wound that could not heal,” Gil told Vieira. “We still have healing to do, but it’s possible because having recovered our daughter’s body gives us peace. I know that no one is hurting her now; she’s beyond pain.”

The Harringtons were able to view the remains, which Gil described as “lovely bones” — a reference to the best-selling book by Alice Sebold about a murdered 14-year-old girl. The book has been made into a movie.

“I have reviewed images of my daughter from her prenatal ultrasounds to looking at her empty eye sockets of her cranium,” Gil said calmly. “Yes, I have seen lovely bones. Lovely girl.”

Killer at large
The pasture where the body was found is in a remote part of a farm that is not easy to get to by car. The location makes the Harringtons believe that someone local who was familiar with the area committed the crime.

“I’ve said all along that someone local did this,” Dan Harrington said. “Someone has to be comfortable with knowing the area, knowing where to go. Particularly in this situation, where Morgan was found — there’s absolutely no way that a stranger to the area would know this. It is someone who lives in the Charlottesville area. To me, it’s frightening in the sense the community needs to be aware that there’s a perpetrator out there who needs to be caught.”

“Dan wants justice and punishment of this man. I really care little about either one of those things. I know he will receive the punishment that he is due, at some point. I am concerned and determined that he be caught for safety reasons,” added Gil.

Finding meaning in tragedy
When Morgan went missing, her parents discovered that while there are great resources to support the families of missing children in this country, there is almost nothing to help the families of missing adults. The only resource is the National Center for Missing Adults, which lost its federal funding in 2007, Dan Harrington said.

“We are a prime example of the pain and the difficulty that families have after someone goes missing. There’s no template,” he told Vieira. “Law enforcement, communities, parents don’t know what to do.”

The Harringtons recently traveled to Washington, D.C., to meet with their senators from Virginia and other lawmakers to lobby for funding for the center and increased resources for families like themselves.

“We no longer have a missing daughter, but we want Morgan’s life to be honored and we want her death to not be just another person dying,” Dan Harrington told Vieira. “We want something good to happen for Morgan’s life.”

Parents: Morgan Harrington likely died quickly
Morgan Harrington's parents say police think their daughter died the night she disappeared. Her parents believe the perpetrator is local to Charlottesville. The investigation is focusing on the cause and time of her death.

UPDATED JAN. 28: In a statement posted Wednesday on Metallica's Web site, the band said it was "profoundly saddened" by the discovery of Harrington's remains and said its thoughts are with her parents, Gil and Dan Harrington.
The Loss Of A Fan

Dan and Gil Harrington said their minds are, at last, at peace.

The Roanoke County couple now believe their daughter was killed the night she disappeared.

And for the first time since Morgan's disappearance on Oct. 17, said Gil Harrington, she is not imagining her daughter as a captive a frightened captive brutalized by a predator, day after day.

"I'm not thinking every minute, 'What is he doing to my daughter right now? What is she having to endure right now?'

While police said nothing more -- except to note that investigators are still trying to determine the cause and time of death -- Gil and Dan Harrington said they gather from conversations with investigators that their fears of captivity were never reality, that their daughter was killed the night she disappeared from a rock concert in Charlottesville, that the time she spent with her killer was, mercifully, short.

They added that they expect to receive Morgan's body from the medical examiner's office in five or six days, after which they will hold a public memorial service for their daughter.

Spot where Harrington body found scrutinized
Published: January 28, 2010
<snipped>
The best way to access the location where missing Virginia Tech student Morgan D. Harrington’s body was found is across a neighboring property, according to the Albemarle County farmer who found her remains.

“A lot of my neighbors who are outdoors people have said to me that they think the most logical entrance is from Blandemar Farm subdivision,” Dave Bass said.

The area, Blandemar Farm Estates, is a collection of large homes on cul-de-sacs, surrounded by vast expanses of clipped grass.

Bass said he saw police drive a car across that grass and through a neighbor’s hayfield to access a fence line near where the body was found on his farm. The farm is west of U.S. 29, near its intersection with Red Hill Road, about 5.5 miles south of Interstate 64.

“The easiest way by public road, even in a car, not an SUV or pickup or tractor, would be what I just described,” he said. “There is a barbed wire fence, but you couldn’t get to that place without crossing creeks or barbed wire fences.”

Bass, who lives on the farm with his wife and daughter, said they don’t get many trespassers, and it likely would have been difficult to sneak past the two homes — his and his daughter’s — on the road into his farm. “It would be difficult for someone to pass either home without being noticed, but, you know, I’m not different than you. I don’t sit at the window all day looking for trespassers,” he said.

Anyone who did draw notice would be in a bind because of the long drive back out, he said. He didn’t see anything the night Harrington went missing, he said.

Relatively few people come onto the farm, he said. “I don’t have any employees,” he said. “I do the farm myself, and … you know, we have the normal people that would come on any residential property to fix your air conditioning or your heating or your plumbing,” he said.

He said four hunters have permission to hunt the farm, and their names have been given to police.

He has also spoken at length with investigators, he said. “I’ve spent a lot of time talking with them,” he said. “I don’t know if it helped them much. I tried.”

The area where the body was discovered was initially reported by police to be a hayfield. It was, in fact, a pasture with particularly tall grass, Bass said. “It’s a creek bottom, and the grass grows real well, even though I bushhog it,” he said.

He added, “The only reason I think I saw it was the heavy deep snow.” By the time the more than 20 inches of snow the region received in December melted, it had matted down tall grass all across the region.

In the particular pasture where Harrington was found, the grass had been at least knee-high, Bass said. He saw the remains because he was on a tractor, several feet off the ground, he said.

Bass initially thought the body was a deer, but when he saw what appeared to be a human skull, along with fingers and toes, he knew he had to call police, he said.

Friends, supporters plan candlelight vigils for Morgan Harrington tonight in Roanoke and Charlottesville
Harrington's parents were on NBC's "The Today Show" Friday morning.

Friends and supporters of Morgan Harrington and her family have organized two candlelight vigils tonight to remember the Virginia Tech student.

According to the Web site maintained by her parents and family friends, findmorgan.com, and Facebook postings, the vigils are planned to begin at 7 p.m. -- one outside of Dan and Gil Harrington's home in Roanoke County and the other at the Copeley Road Bridge in Charlottesville.

Harrington, 20, vanished during an Oct. 17, 2009, Metallica concert in Charlottesville. Her skeletal remains were found Tuesday on an Albemarle County farm 10 miles south of Charlottesville.

Gil Harrington, Morgan's mother, said the family had nothing to do with organizing tonight's vigil outside the family's home, but said she appreciates it and sees it as a way of "channeling" all the public concern that has been generated in the past three months through social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter.

Harrington said the family is wrestling with how to "harness" the public energy and put it to good use as investigators look for her daughter's killer.

"This is all new territory for us," she said. "Having been nothing but private people heretofore, all of this is a foreign life. But you don't want the person who killed her also to have erased her -- we still want her to be remembered and her life to be remembered. So I think you have to use it [the public involvement] to do something good, to make something good, because that will give lasting memory to Morgan's life."

"I am concerned and determined that he be caught for safety reasons, because this was not the first bad thing that this man did," Gil Harrington said in the satellite interview. "Abduction and murder is not your entry level into a life of crime."

Discovery of Va. Tech Student's Remains Triggers Surge in Credible Tips
Friday, January 29, 2010
<snipped>
The discovery of Morgan Harrington's remains triggered a surge in credible tips to investigators seeking answers to the Virginia Tech student's disappearance and death three months ago, her parents said Friday.

Gil and Dan Harrington also said "a wealth of physical evidence" has been collected in the remote hayfield 10 miles southwest of Charlottesville where a farmer found their daughter's bones Tuesday.

"I think people are starting to come out of the woodwork and people who are in jail are trying to broker information for privileges or time or advantages for them," Gil Harrington said.

A spokeswoman for the Virginia State Police confirmed investigators have "received numerous tips" since the remains were discovered and are assessing them. Corinne Geller said she could not comment on evidence.

The Harringtons, who are convinced their daughter was abducted and murdered, devoted their energies the past three months to finding Morgan. They created a Web site, organized searches, distributed posters and put up highway billboards with her image.

Now they are attempting to cultivate more support and awareness of the problem of missing adults. They met with Virginia's two U.S. senators and other legislators last week and are seeking public funding for the National Center for Missing Adults.

The Harringtons — he's a doctor, she's a nurse — said they didn't know what to do or where to turn after they learned of their daughter's disappearance.

They were told, for instance, that once someone is reported missing their possessions should not be disturbed, to ensure investigators can examine belongings that have not been tampered with.

"Someone should tell the parents: Close the bedroom door, do not touch anything of that individual, because police are going to need that stuff," Dan Harrington said. "We're sleeping in her bed because we're crying and contaminated things that can be used for dogs and searches."

"We want to be able to show how you get through tragedy, and how you can be public about that and maybe help people," Dan Harrington said. "Secondly, Morgan had short life of 20 years. She should not be forgotten."

In keeping with that wish, they are establishing a scholarship fund in her memory at the new Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and Research Institute in Roanoke, which accepts its first class this year, and with Omni Orphan Medical Network International, which provides medical care in Africa and elsewhere.

Discovery of Harrington's Body Leads to Tips
Parents say "a wealth of physical evidence" has been collected
January 29, 2010
RICHMOND - Update: 1/29 at 5 p.m.
<snipped>
State Police have finished their search of an Albemarle Farm where the body of Morgan Harrington was found earlier this week. Investigators were in a race against time, combing the area for evidence, before the winter storm expected to hit Virginia arrives this weekend.

Today, one of the most respected criminal profilers in the country talks to CBS 6 about what the crime scene can reveal about a suspect. Gregg McCrary says, "We look at all the behavior than an offender does. He has to make many many choices and body disposal is one of those important choices."

Harrington's skeletal remains were found by a farmer Tuesday on a remote area of his 700 acre property, almost a mile and a half from any roadway. Harrington's father says he's always contended the killer lives in Charlottesville and knew the area.

McCrary says Dan Harrington could be right. He says, "Under that sort of pressure people tend to go to places they are comfortable with and familiar with."

McCrary highlights another detail. He says Morgan Harrington was more likely abducted rather than a theory that she willingly accepted a ride from a stranger on the University of Virginia Campus. He says her abandoned cell phone and purse tell investigators that there was likely a struggle.

He says, "Maybe she decided, 'Oh, I don't really want to do this, this is not really where I want to go. I don't want to get in this car,' and they decided , 'no, you're going.'"

Police will be looking at these same clues to narrow their suspect scope to who is most likely to have done this. McCrary says, "All of those things tell us a little bit about who this person or the areas they are comfortable or familiar with."

Lessons can be learned from Morgan Harrington case
1/29/10
<snipped>
Attractive blond girl from Virginia Tech. Metallica concert. Alcohol consumption. Hitchhiking late at night. Abducted. Missing more than three months. Body found in remote field.

Though that scenario unfolded in Charlottesville, Va., near the area where “The Waltons” television show was based on, the story of Morgan Harrington did not end happily with this week’s discovery of her remains.

Now the heartbroken parents of the 20-year-old Roanoke County woman are left to contemplate how their child ended up as she did after what was meant to be an innocent, enjoyable evening.

The fact Morgan Harrington disappeared after attending a Metallica concert can’t be blamed on the rock band known for its intense performances, which might be the first impulse among those prone to criticize music and other artistic expressions for the world’s troubles.

Yet millions of people have experienced Metallica concerts through the years without incident.

People also have consumed alcohol in a responsible manner and, yes, even thumbed rides, and not wound up suffering harm. (Hitchhiking is an especially common occurrence in a college town such as Charlottesville)

Yet in the mix of those events of the last night Morgan Harrington was seen alive was something that led to her death. A bad decision here, an error in judgment there, a case of ill timing, was all it took to result in a tragedy that has left family members, as well as investigators, looking for answers.

Most parents will tell you that it’s difficult to teach their children about the hazards of the Real World, particularly since teens and young adults often think they’re invincible. Something that can be just as dangerous as this false sense of security is the urge to always be part of the “party scene.”

Unfortunately, the same night life that lures in people seeking the thrills of wild bars and wilder parties also attracts another element that preys on the innocent and unwary. Sexual predators, narcotics dealers and those seeking to capitalize in other ways also infiltrate the party scene.

The Morgan Harrington case is reminiscent of the disappearance of Natalee Holloway in 2005 during her high school graduation trip to Aruba. Holloway was last seen by classmates outside a nightclub where she had been socializing with several young men who were locals.

ut hopefully, the fact these high-profile cases do receive such attention — while generating hefty television ratings — eventually will bring some good as far of warning young people about what can happen to them if they don’t exercise care.

Seeing a photo of a beautiful, smiling girl who’ll never be that way again due to a senseless act, coupled with news footage showing a makeshift grave in a field, sadly might carry more weight than any parental warning could.

Morgan Harrington's Pantera shirt found near 15th Street?
January 29th 06:41pm
<snipped>
Several residents of 15th Street claim to have been interviewed by investigators who canvassed the area in connection to the death of Morgan Harrington. The residents, who wished to remain anonymous, told C-VILLE that investigators mentioned finding a shirt that could possibly belong to Morgan Harrington, who was wearing a black Pantera t-shirt when she disappeared the night of October 17. The street is between 1 and 1.5 miles from the Copeley Road Bridge, where Harington was reportedly last spotted.

"About 11:30am, I got a knock on my back door. I opened it up and it’s a guy who flashes a badge and says he’s a detective," said one resident. "He just told me that they were canvassing my building, because they had found what they thought was Morgan Harrington’s shirt somewhere in the bushes in front of the building." The resident said the investigator asked whether the resident remembered anything suspicious from the night Harrington disappeared, or since, and recommended that the resident call CrimeStoppers if anything occurred. The investigator was not in uniform and did not leave a business card, but reportedly flashed a badge.

A second resident told C-VILLE that, on Wednesday, "I came outside from my apartment. I was going to my car, and there was a woman who was kind of digging in the bush, and there were two guys walking around the apartment across the street. I heard the one guy [say] they hadn’t found anything, so the one guy was like 'Well, we found her shirt over here.'"

The second resident added: "There wasn’t any UVA police car around. They looked like they were wearing detective clothes. It’s really speculative, but, whatever."

A third resident reported being asked about suspicious events since Harrington disappeared, by an investigator who also mentioned finding a shirt that might be Harrington's.

Asked whether there was a law enforcement presence on 15th Street, Virginia State Police spokesperson Corinne Geller said that she didn't know. "We've gotten a lot of tips and a lot of different leads related to the case. They may've been just following up on a tip almost in a process of elimination versus it being some critical aspect of an investigation."

Candlelight vigil offers support to Harrington family
Friday, January 29, 2010; 9:21 PM
<snipped>
Neighbors, family and newfound friends filled a Roanoke street corner with candlelight, prayers and music Friday night, trying to help fill the void left by the loss of Virginia Tech student Morgan Harrington. “She was a light in the world,” said friend Ashley Honig.

Honig, a sophomore at Virginia Western Community College, knew Morgan Harrington during high school. They went to church together and were in the same youth group. “She will never stop being loved,” Honig said.

The candlelight vigil was planned quickly, bringing supporters to the home of Dan and Gil Harrington just a day after Virginia State Police confirmed remains found on Anchorage Farm outside Charlottesville were indeed those of Harrington.

The Harrington family expressed their gratitude to the crowd of more than 100 and to those worldwide for joining so passionately in the effort to locate Harrington. Other attendees offered comfort to the Harrington family as they seek closure after spending 101 days searching for their daughter.

“This has been tragic from beginning to end,” said family friend Janet Crawford to the hushed crowd. “Their loss has been great, their pain has been deep, their faith has been strong,” Crawford said.

Harrington’s parents thanked the world for its support in their quest to find their daughter and closure in the case of her mysterious disappearance. “Thank you so much,” Gil Harrington said. “We have been held up by your love in this catastrophe.” “We could not have survived without you,” she said.

Gil said that the discovery of her daughter’s remains had helped to provide a sense of closure. “We have recovered Morgan’s body,” she said, “now we are attempting to recover ourselves.”

Dan Harrington said during an emotional statement he too has found solace in Tuesday’s discovery. “This is not the end, but there is some peace in closure,” he said.

Dan Harrington thanked the worldwide community for “holding up” his family during the 101 days that his daughter was missing. “This community that has continued to be supportive and show us love and friendship ― in this century, I think that has never occurred before,” he said.

Dan Harrington said he hopes his daughter’s death will “not just a death but something that we go forward and remember.”

“Though one person killed Morgan,” he said, “there are many people who love Morgan.”

Morgan Harrington has been frequently remembered not just for her love of her family but for her love of others. During her high school summers, she volunteered at a camp for children with disabilities, directed by Deborah Duerke, a long-time friend of the Harrington family.

After those gathered joined in a stirring chorus of the song “Let There be Peace on Earth” and a closing prayer, many went forward to write notes of encouragement on poster boards bearing the 2-4-1 symbol, a family phrase that has become a rallying point for those searching for Morgan.

The Harrington family traditionally, as they leave the house, says to one another, “I love you too much, forever, and once more.” Those were the last words Morgan Harrington said to her mother Gill Harrington the day she disappeared.

“2-4-1 will always be a part of us,” one person wrote, “as will you.”

News7 sits down with parents of Morgan Harrington after candlelight vigil
January 29, 2010
<snipped>
They came together to give hugs and sing songs. They offered words of support from poems. And comments left on websites. More than a hundred friends, colleagues, and perfect strangers showed up at the Harrington's Roanoke County home to remember Morgan.

Her family says they are overwhelmed by the generosity. "Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart, I am so grateful," says Morgan's Dad, Dan Harrington.

Grateful because the family says it would not have made it through the last 100 days without this outpouring of love and support. One of the themes we heard over and over again at the vigil is the hope Morgan's killer will be caught and soon.

Morgan's parents tell us investigators have told them they've collected a lot of physical evidence where her remains were found. "I am confident that they will find them," says Morgan's mother, Gil.

While they wait for more answers from State Police, her parents are preparing for her funeral next weekend. They take comfort in knowing she is no longer missing.

"Morgan is not in the cold tonight. She's not being snowed on tonight. It's not what we wanted, but it's better than not knowing. I think we have closure," says Dan Harrington. They say they'll have even more closure when her killer is caught.

Until that day, the candle in the family's front window will continue to burn, a reminder that young girl was taken way too soon.

Morgan's Warriors Stand Together

The vigil took place at the Copeley Road Bridge where Morgan was last seen alive back in October. While the crowd has gone home, the flowers, cards and posters for Morgan Harrington are still here. They're part of a tribute from a group called Morgan's Warriors. It held vigils Friday in Roanoke and in Charlottesville to honor her and the Harrington family.

It was a tearful tribute along a cold Copeley Road. A small crowd of mourners gathered Friday night in the spot Morgan Harrington was last seen alive. They stood in support of her friends and loved ones holding a similar vigil more than 100 miles away. Kim Simmons is a member of Morgan's Warriors. She says, "Even though there's only a few of us here and a lot of us in Roanoke, we're still all united."

Morgan's Warriors have followed the case since the 20-year-old first went missing, often spending nights and weekends looking for the Virginia Tech student. Simmons says, "We would organize searches here on our own, we would start here on Copeley Bridge and just walk in different directions."

Morgan's Warriors say their vigil is a sign of solidarity, a sign that they'll stand with the Harringtons until they find out what happened to their little girl. Kim Simmons says, "We've become like family, we're with Mr. Harrington, we're not going to stop until the perpetrator has been caught."

Morgan's Warriors has members from as far away as Texas. They stay connected through Facebook and say this won't be the last time they'll gather here on the Copeley Road Bridge.

Vigil held for Morgan Harrington: 'She should not be forgotten'
Dozens turned out Friday night to remember 20-year-old Morgan Harrington.
Saturday, January 30, 2010
<snipped>
They parked their cars along the nearby suburban streets, and in the dark they huddled at the foot of the hill in front of the two-story brick house. There were dozens of them, clutching candles, the flickering lights of a hope for solace.

The vigil in front of Gil and Dan Harrington's home Friday evening was a physical manifestation of the online community that formed during the three-month search for their daughter, Morgan. Beyond the confines of Facebook and Twitter, in the Harringtons' North Roanoke County neighborhood, it had autonomously taken its own course.

"Having been nothing but private people heretofore, all of this is a foreign life," Gil Harrington said of the public attention. "But you don't want the person who killed her also to have erased her. I think you have to use [the attention] to do something good, to make something good, because that will give lasting memory to Morgan's life."

"It could take weeks-- or longer -- for the state medical examiner's office in Richmond to determine how Harrington died, assuming her skeletal remains yield any clues at all," said Emil Moldovan, an adjunct instructor of criminal justice at Radford University and former death investigator in the Los Angeles County medical examiner's office.

The family's public activism, friends said, is a counter to their private nature. Their advocacy has been in the interest of helping other people and keeping the case alive and honoring their daughter.

"We want to be able to show how you get through tragedy, and how you can be public about that and maybe help people," Dan Harrington said. "Secondly, Morgan had a short life of 20 years. She should not be forgotten."
