Disappearance of Emile: "Protect families from possible curiosity tourism"... the village of Haut Vernet cordoned off for several more days

In the hamlet, the 30 houses have already been searched, the 25 inhabitants questioned, all the vehicles have been visited and in total, therefore, 97 hectares of fields, woods or steep terrain have been "meticulously" raked, said the public prosecutor of Digne-les-Bains Rémy Avon. "Is without doubt one of the most important judicial search operations ever conducted".

A few photos on Google Maps, from what looks like a holiday cottage and a farm on the same street. Just to give an idea of the surroundings, as street view isn't available. Obviously one has been taken in winter, but you can see both red roofs and it looks like the street slopes down. In the other one you can see one of the red roofs, which also gives an idea of the slanted hill. I've also included a screenshot of the terrain filter, which shows nearby rivers/streams, and the satellite image as well to compare (I had to crop that one in half, I can't figure out how to make it small enough to upload as one screenshot - can anyone smarter than me help? :/) Sorry if the images aren't in a logical order, I'm struggling to re-size and upload them!
If it hasn't worked, you can find the images and Google map location here Le Haut Vernet

search details

On the fifth day of the child's disappearance , it was first the 1.8 km road linking the hamlet of Haut-Vernet and its 25 inhabitants to the village of Vernet which was raked by around fifty gendarmes from the platoon. Gap gendarmerie, as well as a strip of 10 meters on either side of this road, said the public prosecutor

Sixteen months after the disappearance of Yannis, a hunter finds his gray leather shoes a kilometer from the family home, then his anorak, a sock and his briefs, reveals Le Dauphiné Libéré . The clothes had, it seems, been deposited by an anonymous hand. Their discovery does not allow the investigation to be relaunched, despite new research.

A case that took place 60 kilometers from the village of Émile . Since this morning of May 2, 1989, the mother of little Yannis Moré, three years old at the time of his disappearance, has not ceased to wonder. "The worst thing is not knowing how it happened, where he is, if he is alive, if he is dead, that's what is the most difficult to accept", confides Pascaline More at franceinfo .

New Ws thread..

Is it normal for the search to be called off so quickly?
Unless the Gendarmes have concluded that they have other sound reasons to doubt Emile wandering and becoming lost, the reason given after 4 days of searching is as per link:

Search for toddler who disappeared in the French Alps called off by investigators
Investigators end search for two-year-old Emile, four days after his disappearance in French Alps

The prosecutor warned on Tuesday that "medically, beyond a period of 48 hours, given the child's young age … and the current intense heat … his life is very much at risk".
The terrain in the search zone is hilly and craggy with many streams, and the region has been hit by a heatwave, with temperatures of up to 35 degrees Celsius in recent days.”

That's dated a couple of days ago.
They searched yesterday as well. Details upthread, posted in past few hrs.

The Digne prosecutor, who announced on Wednesday evening the imminent end of the sweeps, "about to be completed", told AFP that he had decided on this final operation after "the gendarmerie had the possibility of providing him with staff extra for this Thursday morning".
It will take place as part of the investigation opened on Sunday to find the causes of the worrying disappearance, insisted Mr. Avon: "If other searches are carried out later, it will be to verify or corroborate elements collected during the investigation. “, he explained.

i'm wondering whether they have gone in a different direction now?

Five days after the disappearance of little Emile, a filter dam was installed this Thursday morning a few meters before the hamlet of Haut-Vernet, where the little boy was last seen on Saturday, around 5 p.m. If a last search operation has been underway for 8 hours to try to find the last clues in order to understand in what circumstances the child disappeared , the mystery remains.

A resident, who has lived for more than 20 years in the hamlet, brings up the subject with tears in her eyes. " It's impossible for a child to survive for five days ," breathes this retiree. She, who has been with the little boy's family for several decades, denies any possibility of family drama. " It's a very good family, very close-knit, very religious. " She even describes Émile as being " a very sociable child ".

I don't know, when I see the thick areas of trees in and around the location where Emile disappeared from, and even in looking at the clusters of leafy trees in the photo in the above article, I have to wonder if he was overlooked by searchers somehow. Especially after just a mere four days of full on searching. It is known to happen, as described in other similar cases.

rsbm (cos I again started typing in the wrong box)

I had the exact same thoughts looking at the exact same image.
It is more dense than i had imagined and i wondered whether they had looked up and I was mentally Saring it, look left , look right, look up, look down, turn , turn other way..etc.

I'm pretty sure they're on it but strange we both experienced the exact same thoughts at same image.

Well, I am sure many of us on WS have seen time and time again how an area has been searched over and over again, only to find the missing person's remains at a later date not only in the same area but in a super obvious spot! (assuming of course they had been there all along, which is often the case)

I think Mother Nature would let them know if there was a child’s body to be found in those fields by now? (Sorry) Wouldn’t that be hopeful? He could be alive somewhere.
They had cadaver dogs in.
I'm hoping he's alive somewhere too but info is super sparse and i've been literally sitting on it on Twitter since story broke..
some kids just capture one..

Yes, I think of how easily he could lie down and not be seen, like a little fawn that hides in the grass so well you nearly step on it. But maybe they don't believe he could get very far in the long grass. I will trust the judgement of those who are in the field, but if this little lad was in my family, I would still be searching.

Is it possible that he had tried to go off in the direction he had seen his Parents drive off ... thinking he might find them 'just there' .... not realizing how far away his Parents might drive!
