Oh no, just found out courtesy of Facebook that 2 other of my nieces are in Paris now! More to worry about. The family who lives there is my BIL's niece & her husband and maybe kids. This is my nieces visiting I think...

A flower of hope.

Why?...Because this was a paper flower made - and accidentally dropped - tonight by a Jewish musician, in a country (Spain) that has been a battleground for Christian and Muslim 'warriors', throughout history. It was found and returned by a Protestant, gifted back to a Catholic, and then a little Muslim girl at the next table said in perfect French, how lovely it was. The Protestant understood but didn't know how to proceed, the Catholic didn't get the language, and meanwhile...the odd, non-religious person in the corner said: 'Give the kid the dang flower'.

She got it. I know. I was there. :) Europe is not beaten yet. It has seen worse. I have hope.

I am busy trying to alter all my homecoming plans, to include a stop in Paris. Jihad sucks. I'm so sick of it, just have to show support somehow...

If anyone finds out who the hostages were, please let me know. The lack of information is starting to worry me sick about the family I have in Paris right now.

Paris is one of my favorite cities. I've been there 8 or 9 times and would go back in a heartbeat. I hate to think of it as being a city of fear, but they've been through worse and come through it. They will rebound, and I admire their solidarity.

Odds are that your family are fine! I understand your concern, though.

Eeeuhm Zwie, Spain resolved matters by means of a Reconquista, not a Reconciliation ........ :floorlaugh:

Your family is probably in bed by now. It's almost 02.00 hrs local time.

I can't even find a helpline number right now. Maybe someone with sufficient language skills could help?

Oh, hush up you. It's late. You should be in bed, up north as you are... :)

Okay, think I found out that they aren't on the list of hostages who were killed, but BIL's niece and husband are Jewish, my brother's daughters aren't, but I have at least 4 people to worry about until this is all over.

Something about the woman does not ring accurate. If I was a hostage, when I got out and was surrounded by men with big guns and bullets (!) I would yell thats her she is getting away she is one of them. So the notion that she just split while everyone was leaving does not make sense

in debriefing the hostages there would be a unniversal report that a man and a woman came in and ......... the fact that after all this time there remains mystery about if she was in store, kinda makes me think he might have been alone all along

what you all think?

Gosh he sounds so calm, crazy! So sure of himself that he is rightful, that he doesn't kill women etc blah blah. That is chilling to hear. His voice is so normal like he is chatting and then calmly arguing.

Elsa Cayat, psychoanalyst and columnist

The only woman among the 12 victims, the 54-year-old wrote the magazine's Charlie Divan (English: Charlie's couch) column.

Her column wandered from subjects such as parental authority to the roots of the Holocaust, Madame Figaro writes (in French).

I'm hearing it said she may well not have ever been in the store, just that she was his accomplice in planning

'Senior al Qaeda leader Sheikh Harith al-Nadhari released a recording over social media websites on Friday, denouncing the "filthy" French and calling them "the heads of infidelity who insult the prophets."

Referring to the attack on satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, he said it would be "better for you [the French] to stop striking Muslims so you can live in peace. But if you only wish for war, then rejoice, you will not enjoy peace as long as you wage war on God and his prophets and fight Muslims."

The terrorist leader said that the attackers were a group of "the faithful soldiers of God," but stopped short of claiming responsibility.

In a TV interview on Friday evening, French Prime Minister Manuel Valls said authorities were bracing for possible further attacks....'

Why is my muslim world so silent?

Syrian author Afra Jalabi on the religious and moral problems of muslims, in Dutch newspaper Trouw
http://www.trouw.nl/tr/nl/4324/Nieu...Waarom-is-het-stil-in-mijn-moslimwereld.dhtml

Translation

(....)
In an age when all mankind has embraced the freedom of expression and religion, the official teachings of Islam are still an obstacle to that freedom.
And that is all the more tragic when you consider that the freedom of belief is central in the Qur'an. Indeed, the Qur'an says very clearly: "There is no compulsion in religion."

Contemporary Muslim scholars claim that Islam is at ease with the modern world. But the truth is that they conceal their hostility towards the modern world.
Despite libraries full spasmodic attempts at reconciliation, Muslims have never faced their real religious and moral problems. And here I am referring to more than just religion.
I'm talking about the whole cultural situation in the Arab world, a world that remains committed to its tribal mentality and to fighting and killing as means to resolve disagreements or conflicts.

The whole world has unconditionally put their signature under international human rights treaties. But in the Arab world, we did it with hypocrisy and a false smile.
Arab rulers signed the treaties while unscrupulously keeping their whip and tanks on hand. The religious authorities endorsed them, while they hid their sword and burqa behind piles of yellowed books.

Not far from there stood the citizens, men and women. They did nothing and no one asked for their opinion. The rulers and religious authorities were united in their intention to continue depriving the people of their freedom.

As they fled, the perpetrators of the attack in Paris called out "We have avenged the Prophet Mohammad!"
Our love for the Prophet Muhammad we should express by behaving behave morally in the times we live in now. Not to injure others or to murder.

Oh, hush up you. It's late. You should be in bed, up north as you are... :)

You are so right!

Now what are you going to do with that right? :p

I really needed that laugh. What a day.
