With a deadlock you would need a key, most apartments have one.
Mine has a spring-bolt lock (on the door handle) and a deadbolt. I normally keep the spring-bolt locked and then just lock the deadbolt when I leave. There have been times when I've had company and I need to leave before they do. On those occasions, I make sure the spring-bolt is locked from the inside and tell my visitors to close the door when they leave and it will be locked. The deadbolt, of course, remains unlocked.
So, I'm just saying that if Hannah's mother, for some reason, didn't want her to have an apartment key and the apartments have both a spring-lock and deadbolt lock, Hannah could lock the door from the inside before she left in the morning. In the apartment listings, I didn't see anything that tells what types of locks are on the doors at LLC.
I get the sense that Hannah's mother didn't feel she was trustworthy and this seemed to be a point of contention between her and JT.
