For instance, the log says that on Dec. 3, the day after Jorelys vanished, police searched the River Ridge complex, building by building. That afternoon, it says, officers were specifically “checking all vacant apts at river ridge.”

About 10 percent of the 356 units are vacant, according to the property manager.

According to state investigators, there was no mistaking that something ghastly had happened in one particular unit; there was blood everywhere — on the walls as well as the floor.

Yet, police did not find that scene, which was determined Monday to be the place where Jorelys had been beaten and stabbed.

BBM This disturbs me. Wonder who specifically gave Canton PD the list of which apartments were vacant? Wonder if Canton police missed that one through incompetence, which has been suggested and alluded to or because they were not aware of that specific apartment being vacant.

Wheels are spinning here, see the smoke coming out of my ears? This whole thing right here really troubles me.

To me it doesn't matter if an apartment is vacant or not. I think I saw an interview with a resident on the news and he said the cops knocked on his door late at night and they said "we have to search your apartment" The guy said "ok"

There certainly should have been a detailed list of every apartment in the complex and all those should have been searched. Vacant or not.

I know what you mean. It seems so sloppy on his part. I suppose he might try and use that in his " I WAS FRAMED" defense.

But honestly, he did a lot of sloppy stuff, which is why he was caught so quickly. To me, abducting, murdering, and disposing of the victim right in the same place he lives and works is sloppy, in itself.

Well, I don't think it's like a car crusher and there was nothing but hard objects on all sides of her. There was likely garbage beneath her and to the sides, and if he was in a rush, possibly on top of her before the compactor was run. Kind of cushions things, I'd think.

And Friday night, Saturday night and Sunday night, I thought it got down to the upper twenties to low thirties. That compactor was likely like a refrigerator at night. :twocents:

I had not thought of it that way. I just pictured those big ole trash trucks that empty the dumpsters and how they compact their load. But, that is a very good point and I will think of it that way. ty

As he said in court, he left school at 15. I think that shows in his sloppy thinking. I bet he made lots of mistakes. And I think the reason his room mate is 'missing' is because he had plenty to tell LE.

I think that's exactly it--she was cushioned by garbage, and the thing doesn't crush that hard to begin with, since it is designed to compact food, paper, and other household trash, not crush down steel. Think of the trucks that pick up garbage, and compact it along the way, yet recognizable stuff us able to be retrieved from landfills and dumps later.

I have a compactor dumpster in my apartment complex and I have no idea HOW anyone that didn't have the right keys to get into it can say they actually searched for Jorelys in the dumpster? The ones we have you would have to basically grab at least a step stool to even boost yourself up into the one section and then move into the actual part that does the compacting?

Does anyone have an actual picture of the dumpster so I can see if it is like the ones we have here?

I am very confused by this reference to her going to a vacant apartment to get drinks, since it doesn't fit with other info that was reported. I can't find the link to the actual news story where that is said. Can someone help me out?

Peachy was just typing what she heard on that local news station that afternoon. So I still wonder where the reporter got that piece of information. She did have the apt. number correct for the crime scene. So I wonder who told her about the drinks.

Slain 7-year-old girl is mourned

jorelysmomandcasket.jpg

"Joseline Rivera lifted her face to the sun. Richardi Galarza shielded his eyes behind dark glasses.

The two grieving parents each tossed a snow white dove into a cloudless Canton sky Saturday, an act symbolizing their 7-year-old daughter’s flight to heaven."

Community mourns slain 7-year-old

Pallbearers wore white t-shirts with Rivera's picture on them as they escorted the casket out of the church. The Rivera family planned to fly the girl’s body back to Puerto Rico for burial.

"It was really touching and beautiful. Everyone was just full of support and love for her and I think the most important part of the ceremony was just to understand that her life was not in vain", said Veronia Best, a friend of the family. Best said a dove was given to family members of Rivera and released, a symbol that "she was leaving and she would live forever" Best said.

They searched the bin where trash is dumped prior to compacting, not the actual compactor. That is why they had to wait to get the sanitation people out to move the compactor part to an area where they could search it piece by piece.

Outside in a cold wind everyone gathered around the white baskets with the doves inside.

After Jorelys' parents tossed two doves in the air, more than a dozen followed. They gathered in flight, made two passes over the mourners and then flew away as a mother’s mournful sobs followed.

That little white coffin, and the doves . . .

Bawling right now. Gotta get it together before my little ones ask me whats wrong.

Oh my gosh. I can just picture that and I too am crying. What a heinous world we live in.

Maybe they initially checked only the apartments with lock boxes? As it was said this one did not have one and was unlocked??

Maybe the reason it was unlocked was if push came to shove RB could say "anybody could have done it because the APT was unlocked"

It may also have been left unlocked by RB because the Apt manager really does keep a tab on keys and RB would have had to leave it unlocked to have constant access.

One final thought on locked/unlocked vacant apts from me.

I lived in a place that would change the lock as soon as a person moved out. This would prevent the old tenant from having access to their old apartment. The maintenance man would place a special core in the lock cylinder that all maintenance people had a key to. When a new tenant would move in then they of course would re-key the lock for a private residence.

where the heck did those doves go? It's winter-ish, just sayin'

has the manager spoken out? how about her son (Ryan's roommate)?

I always thought GA was one of the states that the more northern state doves migrate to in winter months? I wasn't aware they left GA when winter approached. Not that I know anything about doves. In all my many google searches relating to cases here, that has never been one :)

--do we know how he knew this room mate, did he know him previously, or did he get the job ( and part of the deal was that he would live free---sharing an apt. with the mgr's son ) ?

as far as I know we are just supposing that the roommate/manager son is the "friend" who got him the job. I don't know that that has been confirmed in MSM. Does anyone else?

There are three available floor plans in this complex. The link shows the floorplans in addition to the complex layout. I do not know which floor plan RB had or crime scene had.

All three appear to show a sliding door exit from the master BR
RBBM. I'm not seeing a sliding door exit from the master BR for all three, but the one-bedroom looks to have sliding doors from the MBR plus a regular door from the living area. The two-and three-bedroom units appear to have regular doors from the living area onto the patio. Regardless, yes, they all seem to have patios. However, in looking at the gallery pix, some patios appear to be on the front of the building, facing the parking lot.

This is done for our show units, but not the vacant units. I've seen a couple posters mention master keys - we had those way back in the day and then they became taboo - haven't seen one in at least 20 years. They could actually be sold for a lot of money if the maintenance person was so inclined.

We have a keytrack system. Every time a key is pulled a code has to be entered, and each employee has their own code. A log can be generated at any time to see who was the last with any particular key. This is the reason for not having a universal key for vacant units, everyone has to account for those keys in case there's ever a question.

the information about the back patio exit from the crime scene apt comes from Wise Old Owl, who watched the walk thru done by a reporter during GBI's search of that apartment, video footage showed LE walking in and out of that patio exit which was located at the rear of the building. There was a walkway/path there which led around the outer edge of the complex and also a retaining type wall along the outside edge of the complex grounds.
