This is done for our show units, but not the vacant units. I've seen a couple posters mention master keys - we had those way back in the day and then they became taboo - haven't seen one in at least 20 years. They could actually be sold for a lot of money if the maintenance person was so inclined. We have a keytrack system. Every time a key is pulled a code has to be entered, and each employee has their own code. A log can be generated at any time to see who was the last with any particular key. This is the reason for not having a universal key for vacant units, everyone has to account for those keys in case there's ever a question.

What would be the reasons he would sell the key?

as far as I know we are just supposing that the roommate/manager son is the "friend" who got him the job. I don't know that that has been confirmed in MSM. Does anyone else?

Sort of doesn't make sense that they were friends?

A master key? Because he could gain entrance to every unit on the property, including units that were occupied.

Jorelys Rivera's mom releasing white doves

I always thought GA was one of the states that the more northern state doves migrate to in winter months? I wasn't aware they left GA when winter approached. Not that I know anything about doves. In all my many google searches relating to cases here, that has never been one :)

I asked the "bird expert" (Dad). He says, "The little birdies will be fine!"

the Toccoa and Tallulah models have a sliding glass door leading from master BR to outdoors but the patios for those styles are located off a different set of sliding doors from the LR.

the Etowah features sliding doors from both the LR and BR both of which access a patio.

made total sense when this whole thing started but less and less so now, lol

There are three available floor plans in this complex. The link shows the floorplans in addition to the complex layout. I do not know which floor plan RB had or crime scene had.

All three appear to show a sliding door exit from the master BR

So did he take her over the low fence in the back? I doubt there are gates, and most patio fences are surrounded by bushes, making climbing over a little more cumbersome. Very doubtful that was easy in, easy out access.

totally worth any extra effort involved to stay in a less visible area of the complex. Parking lots and common areas are much busier I would imagine than that little walkway area. He either went over the retaining wall and went through that line of brush there, or boldly carried her wrapped within a garbage bag or some other innocuous seeming material and carried her to the dumpster along that walkway. That is my thinking (thanks to WOO's input) at this time. Who the heck knows what I will be thinking tomorrow.

the information about the back patio exit from the crime scene apt comes from Wise Old Owl, who watched the walk thru done by a reporter during GBI's search of that apartment, video footage showed LE walking in and out of that patio exit which was located at the rear of the building. There was a walkway/path there which led around the outer edge of the complex and also a retaining type wall along the outside edge of the complex grounds.
Thanks. I saw her description after I commented about patios to the front and to the back.

This complex map (like most, I'm guessing) is misleading, as it appears to only have a back walk behind building 11, and it doesn't show the wall at all! One would think those would be two important items to show on the map, i.e. back access to the trash (sneak over there in your PJs) and a retaining wall (as a opposed to wide-open space behind the apartment).

Even though I know our maintenance guy well and trust him implicitly, all this talk about who's given keys, etc. has made me decide to research additional locking devices (dead bolts in place...but glass in back door renders them useless really).

A family member told FOX 5 that Jorelys’ parents were planning to speak at Saturday’s service, but they were too emotional when the time came. But as funeral home personnel were escorting them back to the funeral home for a private service, Jorelys’ mother stopped to speak to the media.

Through a translator, Jorelys’ mother told reports that she wanted to thank those who supported her, and the investigators who worked so hard to solve her daughter’s murder and make an arrest. She said the situation has been painful for her family, but she is glad that people have been there for her.

So, he would sell it so people could break in to apartments to rob them, etc.?

Regarding master keys, I was a little surprised to learn this summer that they're still in use. When the suspect in Lauren Giddings' murder in Macon, Georgia was arrested in June, he had in his possession "a master key that opened every door" in the apartment complex where he and the victim were residents.

I know what you mean. In the condos where I live we have a guy who lives offsite, but works around the condos. He built my deck, done some planting for me and some general repairs. The other night I dreamed he just opened the door and came into my house. He didn't do anything, but the dream was very real. He was even wearing a white tshirt and jeans. Since this case, I have dreamed more than in the last year.

I thought RB said something on his facebook page about getting the job from a friend. But he also said he was getting his "own" apt. I would think with 35 vacant apts. he would not have had to wait for one to become available. Maybe his fb page was a little bs bragging.

I am going to bring up a subject that is touchy. Mods, please delete if necessary. RB uses the N word on his fb page. I also saw it on one of his other brother's fb page. Another brother has post on his fb page the confederate flag. I am beginning to question if this was a hate crime?

Outside in a cold wind everyone gathered around the white baskets with the doves inside.

After Jorelys' parents tossed two doves in the air, more than a dozen followed. They gathered in flight, made two passes over the mourners and then flew away as a mother’s mournful sobs followed.

from Lauriej's link above. http://www.ajc.com/news/cherokee/slain-7slain-7-year-old-1256479.html

That little white coffin, and the doves . . .

Bawling right now. Gotta get it together before my little ones ask me whats wrong.

(HUGS)
At least she was found and is not lost out in the cold somewhere like Aliayah and Sky, the skelton boys and Lisa

ETA: and all the other missing little ones :( breaks my heart for ALL of them....

NG mentions that the perp didn't have to go through the complex to get to the dumpster. He could actually walk directly through the wooded area to get to the dumpster.

where the heck did those doves go? It's winter-ish, just sayin'

has the manager spoken out? how about her son (Ryan's roommate)?

I had a friend whose husband had trained doves, er um...white pigeons...and he rented them out to weddings and funerals. People throw them up in the air, and the white pigeon/doves return home to their yard.

and he said it was to keep them safe and warm in winter locales.

How cool, and what a great idea. Glad they will come home.
