PETA doubles reward to $20K in Piedmont stabbing case
''ATLANTA (CBS46) — As the investigation into the brutal stabbing at Piedmont Park is underway, PETA has joined Atlanta Police in their reward efforts.

PETA is adding an additional $10,000 to the existing $10,000 reward offered by the Atlanta Police Department. The reward is for information that would lead to the arrest and conviction of anyone responsible for Katherine Janness and her dog Bowie's death.

“Anyone who would kill a woman and the dog who likely tried to defend her, as loyal dogs invariably do, is a threat to the entire community of living, feeling beings,” said PETA Vice President Colleen O’Brien. ''

Atlanta has become a hotbed of crime now. A friend of mine had his 7 year old son in the Apple store at Lenox recently. 30 minutes after they left there was a shooting there. At a MALL we all used to shop at. In a better part of town. Criminals are everywhere but years ago you felt some areas were safe. Not anymore.

Atlanta Mayor, Keisha Lance Bottoms 8/2:
Atlanta Mayor speaks about Piedmont Park murder as police prepare to give update

“Despite some rumors that cameras weren't working near where the murder happened, Atlanta Police's spokesman says all APD cameras in the area were working properly at the time of the murder and they are continuing to review footage.

Mayor Bottoms warned the public against the feeding into the growing rumors surrounding the case that police have kept largely private as they continue to search for clues.

"I am also asking people just to be thoughtful about the rumors and spreading false information. It certainly doesn’t help us at all in this investigation and making any headway in who is responsible," Bottoms said.

Also, in Atlanta news the past 24 hrs:

Autopsy on dog belonging to Piedmont Park murder victim

“Investigators believe it is almost a certainty the pet named Bowie engaged with the killer in an effort to protect his owner.

As such, APD ordered an autopsy of the animal looking for potential DNA that may have ended up on, or in the mouth of Bowie.

"They will treat the dog forensically the same way they would treat a human being," said Vincent Velazquez, a former homicide detective with the Atlanta force.

Velazquez expects bite impressions have already been taken off the animal as well as a check of the dog's nails for potential skin that may have been left by the person who committed the murder.

The detective with more than two decades of experience says a "transfer of evidence" could be significant.

If authorities can collect a sample, it can be compared to a criminal database and potentially the identification of the killer”

Yay the cameras were working!!!

They are going to release Photos of some people seen in around the park that they would like to talk to in a few minutes. Not POI’s but people who might have seen some thing.

Reward increased to 20K by PETA

PETA doubles reward to $20K in Piedmont stabbing case

“Atlanta police were offering $10,000 for any information that led to the arrest and conviction of any suspects in the murder. Tuesday, PETA said that it would be offering its own $10,000 reward in addition.

"Anyone who would kill a woman and the dog who likely tried to defend her, as loyal dogs invariably do, is a threat to the entire community of living, feeling beings," PETA Vice President Colleen O’Brien told FOX 5. "PETA knows well the sociological studies of killers who target the most vulnerable among us and urges anyone with information to come forward to help police identify this callous killer."

The group says a member of PETA put up the funds and it is hopeful that someone in the public can help solve the crime before the person involved in the killing strikes again. “

Well, the chief stated they we’re going to release photos after the news conference and I thought it would happen immediately but did not. The reporters asked if they could show/release the photos before noon so they could get it on their noon broadcast and The mayor indicated that they would do that. So hopefully it is upcoming.
For now you better take this is as a rumor because I can’t really document what the chief and the mayor said yet.
