GA - Rapper Young + others indicted on RICO & other charges, May 2022. Trial ongoing April 2023, interruptions, lawyer arrested. Fulton County. #2

Donovan Thomas Sr., the father of Donovan Thomas Jr., testified in court on Wednesday morning about the life of his son and the fallout he had with YSL, specifically Young , and Birdman before he was killed in a drive-by shooting in 2015.

@cathyrusson

It was because Steel said, "Did you know it was released on Nov. 20, 2014?" That's Steel testifying as to the date. Instead of just asking does he know when it was released. Now the jury knows the date but it came in through an attorney. That's why the the admonishment.

After sending the jury out of the courtroom, Judge Ural Glanville threatened to hold Young ’s attorney, Brian Steel, in contempt for his comments in front of the jury during Donovan Thomas Sr.'s testimony. "I dont wanna have to do that," Glanville told attorney Steel.

Love this! Judge Glanville has scolded and threatened Atty Steel so many times during this trial, it has become a joke. But, Steel should take heed, one day he may go a step too far.

Tense moment in the YSL case when Judge Glanville threatened to hold ’s attorney Brian Steel in contempt if he continues to make comments/testify in front of the jury. Glanville reminded Steel that this would come with a fine or jail time.

After hearing from the father of Donovan Thomas Jr., jurors are now hearing from a former Hertz rental agent. Remember, prosecutors say Young rented the car that was used in the drive by shooting of Thomas from Hertz.

Keeping an eye on YSL/Young trial, Kenneth "Lil Woody" Copeland is expected to testify today, however, the state informed Judge Glanville that Copeland appears to have secured an attorney and asked that all communication with Copeland be stopped.

ADA Hylton told Glanville that they've spoken to Copeland multiple times and he never asked for his attorney to be present. Hylton and other attorneys received an email last night stating that Copeland was planning the plead the Fifth Amendment.

"If Mr. Copeland does not testify, he can be held in contempt," Hylton said.

Copeland is now on the stand talking to Glanville.

Glanville is reading the order for immunity for Copeland to him and gave him a copy of the order to read together but Copeland is not even looking at the copy.

At times, Glanville has asked Copeland a question and he hasn't replied until being told that he has to reply.

Glanville told Copeland that he has to testify or the state is going to ask him to be held in contempt of court.

Glanville continues to tell Copeland that they can't use his testimony against him.

Copeland told Glanville he was going to testify but appears to have reconsidered and asked to speak to his attorney.

Copeland is one of the key witnesses for the state in this trial. The state is trying everything to get him to testify but Copeland appears that he doesn't want to, and if he does, he plans to use his Fifth Amendment right although Glanville has told him he has immunity.

Copeland says he will testify.

This took almost an hour and then there was argument by attorneys about what can be included during Copeland’s testimony. All this happened while the jury waited in the jury room.

And now Glanville is finally calling the jury in...to tell them that they are taking their lunch break.

ATLANTA — A key witness in the trial against rapper Young and the alleged YSL street gang has been arrested and held in contempt after refusing to testify on the stand.
The arrest came after Kenneth Copeland, also known as rapper Lil Woody, became increasingly agitated after being called to the stand by the state. He refused to answer questions and then invoked his Fifth Amendment against self-incrimination to avoid testifying.

When prosecutors asked Copeland how old he was, he replied "I'm grown. I'm an adult."
When prosecutors asked Copeland how old he was in terms of years, he replied, "I take the fifth."

Judge Ural Glanville then ordered Copeland to be held in willful contempt until Monday, since the prosecution had already granted Copeland immunity in exchange for his testimony.

Young attorney Brian Steel immediately filed another motion for a mistrial after Copeland’s arrest. Fulton County Chief Assistant District Attorney Adriane Love urged Glanville to reject Steel’s motion, arguing Melnick told Copeland “the state’s going to hammer you” if he testified.

Glanville denied Steel’s motion.

Court resumes at 9 a.m. on Monday. Copeland is set to spend a weekend in the notorious Fulton County Jail, the same facility in which a Young co-defendant, Shannon Stillwell, was stabbed late last year.

Glanville said he was going to issue an order keeping Copeland separate from other jail inmates.

BREAKING: Kenneth "Lil Woody" Copeland, has been held in contempt of court and taken into custody. Copeland was called to the stand to testify on behalf of the state

They are bringing him back on Monday and see if he changes his mind. They are going to dismiss the jury for the day.

Copeland's attorney Jonathan Melnick is angry and just told Glanville he plans to go to the State Bar of Georgia about Chief Deputy DA Adriane Love contacting Copeland knowing that Melnick was his attorney.

ADA Hylton said Copeland told them last Friday that Melnick was not his attorney.

Melnick just told Glanville that he can't be in court on Monday because he has non-refundable tickets.

Glanville has dismissed the jury for the day. Copeland will come back Monday, Glanville will ask him if he plans to testify truthfully or invoke the Fifth Amendment again. If he invokes the Fifth Amendment again, he will be taken back into custody.

Things inside the courtroom are tense. Young 's attorney Brian Steel is mad about the way Chief Deputy DA Adriane Love has treated him.

Melnick came back into the courtroom, told Glanville that he had spoken to Copeland and that Copeland plans to take the Fifth Amendment again on Monday.

A major state’s witness is to testify this morning in Young ’s trial, but everything’s on hold because a new lawyer stepped in last night. Now the judge has sent a bailiff to fetch that lawyer from another judge’s courtroom.Just another day in this neverending trial.

Kenneth "YSL Woody" Copeland is in the courthouse. It wasn't hard for prosecutors to get him there because he's in custody.Nina Totenberg's sister remanded him to Fulton County after she revoked his federal probation on a gun conviction in 2021.

Woody has a criminal record (duh) because of course he does, so Judge Glanville said they'll need to discuss that with his lawyer before his testimony.Like they couldn't have seen that coming? A 2018 federal document in his gun case listed his priors:

Hopefully Woody testifies soon, because his testimony should be...something.As
@ThuggerDaily said, "He's a stone cold killer AND a liar AND a rat. Insane combination."2018 defense memo: "approximately 14 attempts on the lives of Mr. Copeland and/or his family members..."

Copeland's quest for the straight and narrow didn't last, as described in this 2021 filing that put him back in federal custody. "The allegations in the petition involve the alleged use of a firearm in a confrontation w/ another person as well as fleeing from the police."
