Was this the quickest trial in history? I wonder what his sentence will be?

That was definitely quick! I doubt he will ever see the light of day again.

I doubt he will ever get out, & I hate that my tax money will pay for his appeals & upkeep for the next ___ years. He may grow old but Skylar will forever be 9 years old.

In GA, his case will automatically be put in line for an appeal & the first excuse will probably be ineffectual counsel. They must not have put up much of a case... BECAUSE HE DID IT! Everything pointed to him from the very beginning. How dare he "look" for her.

In December 2012, a Spalding County man joined in the search for a missing 9-year-old neighbor. On Thursday, that same man was convicted of murder in the death of Skylar Jade Dials.

A jury convicted Shane Clifton Collett of malice murder and felony murder Thursday afternoon, a spokeswoman for the Spalding County Superior Court said. Sentencing was still underway late Thursday.

As does The Grip...

Shane Clifton Collett has been convicted on six charges including malice murder, two counts of felony murder, aggravated assault, first degree cruelty to children and concealing the death of another.

Superior Court Judge Tommy Hankinson followed the sentencing request of District Attorney Scott Ballard, sentencing Collett to a term of life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. He was sentenced to 10 years on charge six – concealing the death of another. That will be served concurrently with his life sentence.

Skylar's story and Collett's demise finally hit MSM...

In honor of Skylar's 12th birthday, which would have been on February 4, her family has asked for $12 donations to be made to the Griffin-Spalding Humane Society in the youngster's name.

'This is a fitting tribute to a precious little girl who had a tender heart toward animals,' a family friend told the newspaper in an emailed statement.

I know this is quite a few years late, but I am new to the site and just saw this thread.
That is in fact the right area, but the large pile of logging debris she was found in was just in front of the 2 piles you see on the new google maps, right where the little path forks.

Ga. high court shoots down appeal of man convicted in 9-year-old girl’s murder

The Georgia Supreme Court on Monday unanimously upheld a Griffin man’s conviction and sentence of life without parole for the 2012 murder of 9-year-old Skylar Dials.

Shane Clifton Collett, a neighbor of the child, appealed his conviction, arguing that the evidence for the murder conviction was weak. He had told various stories about whether or not he knew what happened to Skylar in the hours after her family started looking for her on Dec. 21, 2012. Collett helped in the search. His girlfriend's daughter was friends with Skylar.
