I think Gerry just comes across as defensive, altogether. I think it's just the way he responds to things.
That's what I've always thought.
I suppose he would when he is being accused of killing his daughter.
I can understand his defensiveness, looking at it from the innocent until proven guilty angle.
It was later on all the atrocities happened.

It has been a busy few days for Kate and I. We did our first interview since being made arguidos, for Spanish TV. This was very difficult for us but had one important purpose. We announced that private investigators are looking for Madeleine and that there is a dedicated ANONYMOUS telephone line for anyone who has information, which may help us to find Madeleine. The number is +34.902.300.213. We urge anyone who may have information to please call this number.
The investigators are based in Spain because we believe Madeleine is most likely to be in the Iberian Peninsula or North Africa. They have also released a sketch of an eyewitness who saw a man carrying a small child away from near the apartment on the night Madeleine disappeared. We believe this child was Madeleine. The Portuguese police have released the description of the man previously: he is 35-40 years old, approximately 5’8”-5’10” (1.72-1.78m), Caucasian with southern European/Mediterranean appearance, slim build with dark hair. We hope that this picture may jog someone’s memory who may have seen this man in the Praia da Luz area on the night or days before Madeleine was abducted. Someone else may be aware of a man matching this description who has behaved suspiciously at any time since the beginning of May.

No, I think it's just his Glaswegian nature coming out. And maybe a little Doctor thrown in.
I believe it's just the way he comes across, period.
When I look back at all the interviews with Gerry, he is unable to admit even the slightest that the decision to leave the children alone was--in hindsight--not a good one. He cannot even bring himself to call it a "poor parenting decision" at the very least. He still insists it was like dining "in your own garden" when clearly, at a 100 yard distance to walk from restaurant to room, it was not.
That attitude started far before the McCanns were made arguido--or before there was even a whisper of that.

If this man is caucasian, wouldn't he have stood out to someone there in the town or around the resort? Maybe even showing up in a few pics people may have been taking.

Today marks six months since Madeleine was taken from us. It is an incredibly long time for us but must be even longer for Madeleine. It is so painful for us simply being separated, but all the more distressing when we have to speculate about the situation Madeleine finds herself. We have no idea whether she is suffering but we have to hope and pray that she is being treated like a princess, as she deserves.
This afternoon there will be prayer vigils in Liverpool, Praia da Luz and many friends will be praying in Glasgow. Tonight we will be attending an ecumenical service to pray for Madeleine and other children who are suffering. There is again a lot of media presence in Rothley and the upshot is that millions of people know Madeleine is still missing and that we will not give up looking for her.

He is a medical consultant, one would presume that he should have some cop on! Can anyone with a brain advise him to cease this nonsense?
First people complain that the McCanns never mention Madeleine that the whole campaign is about them, then when they do mention Madeleine people say that's not right either.
The McCanns can't win whatever they do.

I don't have a problem with the phrasing "finds herself" but if Gerry was really listening to the education he says he received about child kidnappings/pedophilia, then the phrase "treated like a princess" is astonishing.
Again, you simply cannot have it both ways. If she was kidnapped by a stalker, who presumably took her for sexual deviancy, then there can be absolutely no consideration at all of "treated like a princess."
The best you could hope for is that someone would be moved by her situation to give her some small kindnesses, such as any prisoner might hope for, for that is what she would be under those circumstances. Period.

Oh come on Desert, everyone would like him to say appropriate things about Madeleine not something that is probably as far fetched as one of J K Rowlings novels!
As Texana said if Madeleine is alive & that is a huge if then she would be a prisoner & I doubt living the life of a princess!

When Gerry says he hopes Madeleine is being "treated like a princess", it sounds like he is making an appeal to the wealthy pedophile he sold her to!
