Same. I remember getting bullied and beaten up throughout my early years, but I would never put someone else through that because I remember how it made me feel and how much it sucked.

As for why some people grow up to punish the underdogs as you put it? I’ve always wondered that myself. That’s the biggest reason why I think I am so interested in serial killers-that psychological aspect. As you said, there are SO many people who were abused or tortured or neglected or went through horrific things themselves as kids, but they don’t grow up to be killers. But some do. And I think there are a number of factors that contribute to it: neglect, parental/family involvement in their children’s lives, trauma, sometimes brain damage could be a factor, etc.

Sometimes I also think there are a few rare cases where someone was just born evil (I know this is probably a controversial statement) and the darkness that lives inside them just lays dormant until their later years, when certain factors or events come together and create a perfect storm. They could have a perfectly happy and “normal” childhood, with loving parental figures, but still grow up to be killers.
There is a 6 year boy in the news right now who shot his 1st grade teacher and also made the comment about trying to kill his kindergarten teacher. I believe he is a combination of nature/nurture. IMHO he should always be kept out of society because I don't believe he will outgrow his impulses, he will only escalate. I can only imagine in his short 6 years what kind of home life he had.

A full investigation will necessarily uncover formerly suppressed information, I think.
As this will have to involve Suffolk county players are they prepared to do further naming and shaming or allow sleeping dogs to lay?

I'm not sure how committed they are.

I have some issues with this as well. We have Hawkshaw's thread for this so I'll just say... It's going to require a lot of faith to think Law Enforcement will audit themselves regarding this case... and I don't have much faith in SCPD.

My own suspicions are that rH had access to a building where he brought his victims, a room, a basement, a warehouse, a shed.. i think , speculatively that there is where the information will be.

As nothing particularly relevant appears to have been discovered at his residence there simply must be another location somewhere.

YES - I also believe there has to be another location. He's had access to a rough estimate of *thousands* of job sites since he went into architecture in the 80s. Easily thousands. Source for that number: My husband is an engineer in NYC/Long Island and works alongside architects. Heuermann called himself an "architectural consultant". My guy says he could have had *unfettered access* to entire buildings while under construction and most likely did if he was lead on the project. He could have had someone meet him at a property, did whatever he did, then have a crew (none the wiser) cover or obliterate evidence the next day. If he was doing this is buildings he was doing renovations on - who knows if any evidence exists. Who would even know where to start.

As these murders occurred while his wife was away it suggests he required a few overnight or longer stays away from his home, suggesting he possibly held them for a time before killing and disposing of them- his own personal torture chamber.

we know the dates they went missing but not the dates they died or were disposed.
Yup. I hate this thought most of all.

Suffolk County Police Commissioner Rodney K. Harrison came to the NewsdayTV studios for a one-on-one interview on the state of the investigation with Newsday's Joye Brown.''

'Rex Heuermann's defense attorney opposes DNA swab request from prosecutors in Gilgo Beach serial killer trial.'

"Time will tell"

I really like that man. He has the kind of strength and personal character society needs to see more often than it does. Thank you Commissioner Harrison.
I think he his latest interview had a chilling effect on this thread and caused a backslide in the progress SCPD had made in regaining trust. I hope he is able to turn around and go back to rebuilding trust.

I haven’t been able to follow the thread as closely as I’d like, and just wanted to clarify which interview you were referring to— the interview above in the studio? If so, I honestly don’t understand what he said that would cause people to lose trust?

I’m not familiar with all of the backstory though, so I’m possibly missing important background information.

Editing to add— is it because he made the statement about Shannan Gilbert’s death most likely being an accident ( I believe that’s the word he used) ?

If Commissioner Harrison is invited to remain on the job, I have hope for clean up in Suffolk County. His interview was very impressive with his can-do attitude "I believe every case is solvable", his respect for his team and ability to give credit where due without fearing that somehow anyone else in the limelight might rob him. He struck me as a self-assured man confident in his own abilities. So rare the appearance of great integrity and lack of ego. Very impressive. I hope he is allowed to remain on the job to see this through.

Harrison seemed to gloss over any of the prior corruption within the SCPD and DA’s office. He completely dismissed any possibility that SG was murdered. These are likely the reasons why many members here were disenchanted by this interview.

Disclaimer: I already feel that Shannan died due to misadventure/tragic circumstances. (And yes I have listened to all the 911 audio, multiple times.)

However, after listening to this week’s LISK podcasts, a set of two interviews which go over the fundamental leadership, crap attitude, incompetence, and corruption in the SCPD, including in the rein of Sini (not just Burke), it seems clear to me that the new regime has turned a corner … and as a result things are getting done. An arrest that should have happened a decade ago has actually happened. The unidentified are getting their names back.

Imagine! :oops::eek:

Did the daughter have her own apartment? If so, I would hope the family you stay there as opposed to the family home.
Neighbour Etienne de Villiers, 68, added that when his daughter Victoria, 26, got her driver's license she wanted to tell her: 'Just get in your car and drive and never come back.'
That did touch me the most. Poor children of RH, by neighbors as really pitiable creatures recognized.

Maybe, 40 years back some neighbors already recognized RH (and/or siblings) as endangered within the family environment and would have wished him to escape in time. It seems, he did not. (Did he continue to live at home during his studies?)

Thank you very much for this explanation. That makes sense, and now I understand why people were unhappy with his interview. Thanks again.

WOW! Josh Zeman says at round the 18:50 mark that Dave Schaller DID tell them on the documentary about the Chevy Avalanche.

The following is told by Zeman based on his review of documentary footage that didn't air:

Schaller said that he didn't see what happened on the night Amber Costello disappeared. However, according to Zeman, later in the interview footage, Schaller mentioned that Amber was being "stalked" by a huge man.

Starting at 19:18 mark, description given by Schaller of this huge man: "6'9", 300lbs, he's a monster, and he drove a green Avalanche"

Zeman said that he & Killing Season team missed this info. They missed it b/c they didn't think the stalker was related to the guy who actually ended up taking Amber Costello.

Edit: meant to add, Zeman basically says that they thought the guy who took AC would have been more careful
It seems to me that a lot of people missed this very important tip and this guy could have been off the streets long ago bc he wasn’t as careful and meticulous as we thought.

I don't understand how they could have excluded such an important fact from the documentary, when they picked up on so many other tips, some of which were a little more obscure? I can understand LE overlooking it if there were a lot of dysfunction or internal issues at the time, but I'm feeling a bit unsettled by this newly emerging suggestion that the whole investigative KS film team also missed it? Have they shared the original b-roll footage of DS sharing this info?

''Aug 3, 2023 Law&Crime Sidebar Podcast
Asa Ellerup’s world has been turned upside down since her husband — Rex Heuermann — was arrested for the murders of three New York women. Their bodies were found scattered along Gilgo Beach in Long Island several years ago. The Law&Crime Network’s Angenette Levy spoke with Ellerup’s attorney — Robert Macedonio — about her life before the arrest and how everything’s changed.''
I would love to know what type of husband and father was he?! Was he abusive? Has anyone heard anything about his first wife and why they were divorced? Someone wrote on websleuthes years ago something about lisk being an architect who works in the city .. so to me whoever that person was had to know it was Rex. I hope people come forward and tell if they new or believed he could of been LIsk.

I truly think bc of all the corruption with the police department it made people laser focused on other suspects and the biggest tip was right in front of everyone’s faces but when your vision is cloudy you tend to miss these things. I think this should be a big eye opener that we all can learn from whether we are amateurs sleuths or LE that we have to follow the smallest of tips and not to put all our eggs in one basket on who we as an individual feel the suspect is or could be. This case has opened my eyes a lot.

I’ve come to believe that statements like that, when not made in private with a close friend or family member, are intentionally sadistic and indicative of someone with either no adequate social boundaries or meant to scare others. Especially if an unknown male says it to a woman.
I want to know where was LE when this was happening to this girl at the park?! That is very scary!

Thanks again. It’s interesting that the 59th Street Bridge is coming up in Pak’s depo as where he picked up Shannon and then a couple of days later, he was told to pick up another escort there. 59th Street Bridge was also mentioned a few times in the RH bail doc relating to cell pings, if I’m remembering right. I suppose this is a popular spot for escorts to be picked up from. Another ”coincidence“ between Shannon and the G4. I apologize if what’s new info to me is redundant to others.

also interesting that Pak says he was convicted in 2003/4 of “misusing a passport“ to help an Asian male illegally enter the country. I’m having a hard time not letting my imagination jump to conclusions. I do hope someone is looking into any connections to RH.
Omg The Asian male!! LE should be looking into where he is .

Which member did know it? So accurate, it can't have been a confusion with another person. That's very interesting! And just as disappointing, when it took years since then for RH to be found out.
