I’m reading (Wed 7/16/2003) “pick up Derek at 6 am for airport” as though he’s taking Derek TO the airport - maybe a commuter, since he plans to be back by Sunday 7/27/2003 to saw posts. Or maybe Derek works at the airport and needed a ride in..?

Depending on how long the 6x6 posts are, he might need another person to support it while sawing.
Typically, a post or beam that large is cut on the ground with a circular saw with the cut end raised and supported, unless it's put into the ground or already secured to a structure. It would be difficult to handle and install the porch posts without help, especially if you haven't done it before.
he could run a 6X 6 through a radial arm saw and have two 3X6's or 4 3X3's which is what could be holding up the deck.

A 6X6 is 5.5". Too expensive to buy to rip to a 4X4 which is readily available. I don't think he has a radial arm saw in that little packed garage. MOO I'm no expert but I grew up with a structural engineer and I inherited his radial arm saw.

If this is true about a Derek and the 6x6s why didn't RH just buy them cut from the lumber yard?
LE has the phone records from that timeline and I think it was his personal phone?
I forget the date and the year of that entry,I do remember the "wife" has gone to Vermont and he's going shooting out East.
Talking about the saw I had recently read in one of the RH articles that forensics can tell from the dismembered if it was a right or left hander responsible but is that a hand-saw or electric saw or both?

Yes but the pictures with lumber are not from 2002. In 2011, there are no extra supports yet, either.

And, why would a furniture making hobbiest need someone from out of town to cut his lumber?

Edited to add: I guess Derek could be a person returning home, rather than from out of town.

Well, there are three things.

1) We don't know how long victims were kept alive, nor do we know how long they were kept deceased. (Jessica, happy heavenly birthday, sweet angel, is the only victim we have a clear clue as to possible torso disposal date.)

2) There is a highly credible question about the dates of the Atlantic City trip.

3) Even if the family is shown to be away abduction through disposal of evidence, there would have to be clues like the construction and drain cleaning and burning and staining, possible new tires, old box of garbage bags, which was hardly used, has been replaced with a new package, etc. I get how hindsight is a different thing from knowing real time, and I know coercive control is likely, and can cause one to see what the controller wishes to be seen. So for this reason, I'd understand if the other residents of the house would not know what signs were signs. But they are witnesses and they have seen signs even if they don't know what they are. (In the spirit of presumption of innocence: what they saw, even if they can't identify it, could be exonerating evidence.)

Don't confuse being a witness and being accused. They are different things.

The note on the calendar says “pick up Derek at 6 am for airport.” Not FROM airport.

Without knowing more, we cannot know if that means Derek was departing by air, arriving by air, or picking something up at the airport.

Given the early morning hour, I think it more likely RH was giving Derek a ride to the airport for an early morning departing flight. And given that, I think it likely Derek lives in the area, temporarily flew out, but had returned sometime in the intervening week or so to be at RH’s for the cutting of the post (if in fact Derek did that and the notation was not simply to provide cover to the sound of RH using the band saw to cut something substantial).

Perhaps RH picked Derek up at the airport when Derek returned and didn’t put it in his calendar, or perhaps Derek found another means of getting home from the airport when he returned.

I'm confused about so much confusion about the 6X6 posts. You can't precut at the lumber yard. You don't buy them to rip to a smaller post. You must cut posts on site to an exact measurement. For example, the posts on the porch, they needed to be measured individually, the cement porch is not going to be perfectly level and equidistant from the roof/overhang for the entire length of the porch.

I’ve also ruminated over what RH meant with “miss-leaders.”

It is included in a long list of types of evidence that a perpetrator would need to take care not to leave if he intends to avoid detection.

There are so many spelling errors on the document that I think it likely this is yet another and RH meant to write “misleaders,” in which case I’m inclined to think he means leaving something with a body that points to someone other than him OR that might lead to a profile which differs substantially from his.

Alternatively, he could mean something untrue (a misdirection) that he tells the escort when making arrangements to meet so that if the escort tells others (a driver, another escort, a friend, or protector), those others will repeat that to anyone concerned, including LE, so that LE investigates based upon untrue information.
I think you're onto something here. His spelling and grammar are atrocious and "misleaders" makes the most sense out of that part of the checklist.

It's obvious I know zilch about lumber.
Thanks.

Here Macedonio talks about the "there is no sex dungeon" and he describes what it looks like, open ceiling , 2x4s.

I have a feeling his misspellings are clever in some way only to him , maybe he likes to tinker with words . like spelling "thanks" as thanx. for instance . also this 666 thing could be something. Rex would not be the first to obscure facts with coded words and symbols. but he's not really very smart is he?
You don't write down how you are going about obscuring your crime...lol, Rex is an idiot and he got caught, and he wrote it all down...I don't know who this dude is , this Derek..could it just be an architect or business thing?
is Derek male? female? would he need a 6x6 to take him down? was he done away with and tossed early in the morning
out near an airport?

Along the same lines of being too clever by half… I’ve entertained the possibility that his “MISS-LEADERS??” entry under PROBLEMS might refer to SWs that he presumed were female, but turned out to be male. Miss-leading…
