Just a heads up to everyone. I don't want to cause a panic, but while shopping today, large empty sections of the meat department were taped off with plastic. Signs on the plastic were apologies for lack of meat due to supply shortage.

Mr. BUF was in Costco yesterday. He said a sign with “Limit One” in meat dept.

SWFL Grocery Report:
I suited up to fill up my vehicle with gas. Afterward, since I still looked like I was awaiting impending doom, I stopped at Winn Dixie.

Lots of produce. Very little prepared food in the hot food counter. No toilet paper and all paper products had a limit of 2. There was a good selection of paper towels. I didn’t even go look at the meat but what I saw from afar, looked reasonably stocked. Tons of drinks soda, teas, juices. Not as many canned vegs on the shelf as I expected. There were crackers and cookies but it was not fully stocked. Laundry products on the shelf but I wasn’t looking for anything, so I didn’t venture down there. Medicine shelves were stocked. Frozen food was stocked but not stuffed like usual. Dairy was stocked as well as the lunch meat area. I did find 3 lb bag King Arthur Gluten Free flour ($9.99) and a full box of yeast packets. It said quick rise and was $1.79 for a strip of 3. I found it odd that it was on the very bottom shelf. I only got 2 of them. There was flour but not a lot. Plenty of sugar and baking things.

I went to my produce handout today. Unfortunately, there are 4 mangos (allergic), a box of mushrooms (allergic) 2 prepackaged salad with walnuts (allergic), 2 papayas (can’t remember if I can eat them and don't want to “test/risk” it). The stuff I can eat, is the yellow squash, romaine lettuce and blackberries. I texted a friend to come get the things I can’t eat. I can’t stand to waste food.

IDK. Maybe so they can focus on sanitizing carts and other frequently touched items in only one entrance instead of all the entrances? Maybe to try to get people to go through the store in only one direction? Does it have arrows on the floor? I haven't seen arrows yet, but someone else posted above that their store was doing that. If they can't staff every entrance to do all the extra cleaning, then they probably had to choose one entrance to keep open. MOO.
My aldi has arrows and only one entrance so they can count to keep the capacity at 30% or whatever that number is - they also have taped off lines - my wait on Sunday was about 15 minutes to get in. We loaded our groceries at the car rather than on the table so that others could be let in sooner.

DH went to the store Sunday. Lots of meat and eggs, produce, and deli meats. He was able to get flour and white sugar.

He brought home a three-pack of Kleenex boxes (my jaw dropped when he unpacked it).

The only things missing from the shelves were toilet paper and brown sugar.

Beef supply across North America is reduced due to virus. Canadian exports will be reduced until the supply is recovered.

"Some of North America’s largest meat producers have been forced to close their plants or reduce production amid the spread of the novel coronavirus, prompting industry leaders to warn of “immediate and drastic” effects on Canada’s supply chain.

Beef processing capabilities have been reduced at a number of facilities in Canada and the U.S., including a temporary reduction at a Cargill meat plant in High River, Alta., where dozens of employees have tested positive for COVID-19.

This single facility represents just over one-third of Canada’s total processing capability, so the impacts to the Canadian beef industry are expected to be immediate and drastic,” Michelle McMullen, communications manager at the Canadian Cattlemen’s Association (CCA), told CTVNews.ca by email Monday."

They change the sales flyers where I live, Weds-to Tuesday... Since people often wait until Weds, I thought I would have a better chance getting meat products today, Tuesday. But still expected meager pickings.

I was shocked at how much meat was available in my local store. Stunned, actually, given they are projecting the shortages every hour of the day on the news. Bought large packages and am freezing small packages. Actually wish i had bought more..but was feeling like a little piggy. pun intended.
They even still had Pepsid on the shelves!

We have a nation who became homeschoolers and we might have a nation becoming vegetarians. :)

We ended up grilling all our thawed freezer meat with the neighbors last hurricane - come June we won’t be able to due to social distancing - that was a “fun” part of hurricaning for me

Also I found everything on my list except boneless skinless chicken breasts at my Aldi including bleach - I don’t bother looking for Lysol - I’m using a lot of white vinegar
We live in a hurricane prone state. We bought a generator so that we can run our freezer and refrigerator/freezer and a small window unit AC or 2. It runs on gasoline but we recently converted it to hook up to a natural gas line. Best investment ever.

Tell him not to flush kleenex down the toilet.

I just stood in line outside a local NC meat market. Limited to 20lbs of beef, no limits on chicken, yet. Apparently word is spreading in our rural county.

That's pretty amazing to me. I haven't been in a grocery store here in California since...late February? I should ask my daughters what it's like. I think they would have mentioned if there were major disinfection of carts going on. I know they take their own wipes.
At Albertsons [in Calabasas]---they were disinfecting the carts as people were returning them and as people were entering the stores. And they had employees spraying/wiping the handles on the freezer doors and the shelves. And they were all wearing masks.

Aldi and Wilkinson in UK were doing it today. Lidl last week you had to do your own. Tesco today they were handing you a trolley but I didn't need one as stated earlier and I didn't see them cleaned down but maybe that went on elsewhere. I wasn't that observant today except for noticing the arrows on the floor for the one way inside the store. It is not the same in all stores.

i've been considering a Generac - it's expensive but 3 weeks without power two years ago was torture. We had power at the office though. If I did get a regular generator, I would pay to have it hooked into the electrical panel - no natural gas but I would use gas. We aren't allowed propane tanks so I don't know how Generac whole house systems would be powered. need to investigate this . Thanks for the reminder.
