Hannah's parents must be desperate to see their little girl, no matter what.
Would they be asked to identify her, would they be allowed to see Hannah at this point?

I don't know if it will be for the best... If the body is in really bad shape, I really hope that they don't have to identify it.

honestly, you never want to believe it could be someone you know because these things happen to "other" people... ask me how i know

I will bite. Tell us your story.

If you want their locations one to the other, then (approximately) here: https://goo.gl/maps/9Mza6

Old Lynchburg Rd is farther S than Anchorage Farm from Charlottesville.

Thank you. Pretty close.

Because it's still like looking for a needle in a haystack. He's a local man, an ex taxi driver, he's lived in several locations, and gone to two universities. They couldn't cover every area that he's ever been. The main point is that they have found her, and hopefully can retrieve evidence that links him to her death.

Precisely. I get the sense a lot of people aren't aware how big the world is. If any one of us were to calculate the square miles of terrain we are personally familiar with, it would be huge. And likely riddled with various empty lots, trash bins, abandoned buildings, culverts, overgrown brush, waterways, parklands, dump sites and wild areas filled with trees and forests or scrublands. How to search? Where to start? Hannah's apparent discovery is almost miraculous.

A place staked out for sex? A grown man with his own apartment has a place for sex. Do you mean RAPE?

Yeah, I've not been impressed with various attempts to minimize the evil of this person. I have no doubt he got off on force, fear, rape, brutality and murder. Now I will say that I do believe not all such killers are pure sociopaths. Some feel some semblance of shame or remorse at times. But never enough that they choose not to do what they enjoy.

From what I've read, these types feel a growing tension and excitement and sexual urge which they ultimately decide to satisfy, by going on the hunt, the prowl. Once they encounter their victims and perpetrators their crimes they feel a temporary sense of relief. Until the tensions Begin to Mount again.

But they can totally control themselves and they know exactly what they are doing. And they are choosing to indulge their evil.

No way is this about someone who suddenly gets angry and feels rejected, and erupts in an uncontrollable rage. Perhaps I could buy that theory if it happened only once.

I am very new here, have followed this case since the beginning, and this will likely be my last post. I can't wrap my mind around a young woman's death for a guy to have mere moments, even seconds of power or getting his rocks off. I'm sorry if this is inappropriate, but....OMG. Kudos to you sleuthers helping case after case, I'm just sick and dumbfounded. I hope I didn't break rules.

Thank you for being here . I hope you stay around. See below.

Wonderful and poignant post, SteveP. I echo your sentiments and pray that the perpetrator will be brought to full justice, for Hannah, her family, and possibly Morgan and her family, and maybe even others. Sad day.

This is what's so wonderful about Websleuths. All the compassionate people who actually care. We process this horror together.

Curious, then his "prowling" of MH seems different. She interacted with quite a few people up to her last sighting. No one reports her interacting with a black male. Only bringing it up because he is now considered MH's killer; it seems like a completely different predatory style. He goes from no witnesses and no cameras on a dark road, to video surveillance in bars and lively mall around closing time.

Given that both girls were intoxicated, and witnesses say had trouble walking, I cannot see much resistance going on, just my take on it. Sometimes in a crisis, people get that adrenaline rush, so who knows? If those remains prove to be Hannah, hopefully it will reveal what happened.

What difference does that make? All that means is if there were cameras on Copley Bridge we would've seen the same thing..I don't think that says anything about a difference in "Predatory styles" just because there happened to be no cameras there and he came upon a young vulnerable victim..

I wonder how this will affect the hearing in December.

Not sure about the December hearing, Emaa, but this case just became much more high profile nationally, imo.. Would luv to know why JM's gm moved him out to the country as a youth to keep him out of trouble.. Tightly sealed in his juvenile records, imo..

I feel like I've been kicked in the stomach.

I've spent today at a football (soccer) tournament to honour a friend who died. He was the only person I've known who shared my interest in missing people and crime. It's really cheesy but I feel like he has brought her home. Thanks Jon and (if confirmed) RIP Hannah.

So sorry for your loss of your good friend Jon. No not cheesy at all. It's a lovely thought.

Google maps street view shows where road was blocked. Search 2505 Old Lynchburg Rd, North Garden, VA then go to street view. You see cemetery on left and Blue road sign on right that's shown in pics of where road is closed today. So this abandoned property must not too far from that location.

This is where the road was closed from pic

And here is a link to reporter saying her body was found just beyond the barricades pictured here and above

I don't know the answer to this, but as a parent I can not even think about this without crying. The condition her body may be in, the harm that may have been done to it . . . I just can not comprehend the emotions of seeing her. :(

i wonder why JM would have left hannah in a structure? wouldn't he be somewhat aware of how that would affect decomposition and possibly implicate him to a greater degree?

I've always felt like he wanted the body to be found, but he wanted it to take some time. If he was responsible for Cassandra Morton, then he wanted the body found. MH was concealed but not impossible to find. JM is a big, strong guy. He could have buried the bodies. But he seems to want them to be discovered eventually. I thought that HG would be found eventually because I just got this feeling that JM wants them found-- not obviously and out in the open, but he likes the searches and all the attention on the case. JMO

I agree. How is it really abandoned if there is no structure, but thats just what I thought of when he said it. When I think of abandoning something I think of house, car, people, not land.
Could be abandoned land if taxes haven't been paid on it, or it hasn't been taken care of (overgrown weeds, frass, etc). Belonging to someone who, at some point, started neglecting responsibility for it in some way.

Sounds like cell phone pings got them into the right general vicinity.

It sure sounds like it. While I felt Hannah was deceased I did worry that her body may never be found. I should have never doubted Longo and all the LE who were committed to finding Hannah. Usually it doesn't happen this way and the body isn't found by the original searchers but is most often found by happenstance just like Morgan was found.

It had to be a bittersweet moment for the team who found her.

Like Gill Harrington said, 'the worst part is not knowing where your child is.' At least now Hannah's family can bring her home where they will always know where she is. They will be able to go to her graveside, sit and talk with her. No longer will they have to worry if she is alone, hungry, cold, in pain or frightened.

IMO

A lot of parents move their kids away from some area or other, and feel that "out in the country" is simpler. I wouldn't put a whole lot on this. Really, with JM, he had a lot of chances. Yes, he got kicked out of college for rape. That could have been sheer stupidity, and he could have learned from that. Instead he pulls the same sort of thing again, and clearly he still does not stop behavior that is outright criminal. When he started killing his victims, who knows. I will be interested in seeing the DNA match results. MH and the Fairfax victim may well not be the only DNA matches that come up.

1). Longo referenced the location in the PRESS CONFERENCE as abandoned "property";

2). CNN's Jean Casarez who has been reporting FROM Charlottesville throughout the search STATED that the remains were found in an abandoned "structure"!

BOTH of the above remarks WERE said, respectively. Some posters heard #1; some heard #2; and SOME actually heard #1 AND #2!

I imagine if the family demands it, possibly. But I assume everyone would advise the family against it.

Looking at the map across the street (old lynchburg rd) there is a farm that appears to be abandoned. Farm houses can be abandoned and the land still worked. Lots of farms are left to family and the home on the farm will be left empty and then run down to falling down but the property will still be worked. Across from Walnut creek park there is a large farm that is being worked but I can not see an active home on it. jmo idk

Darling, shimmering beautiful girl....
Innocent one...
Walking with seeming purpose to an unknown beat...
Your stride should be continuing still...
Strong, unaltered...marching on....
.....
Cut short by darkness..
Crooked cliffs...
A walk deterred; a life dismissed..
Yet strength of love and life resist..
A memory is more than just..
A thought, a smile.. A pumped up fist...
You are a girl of forvevr smiles..
A champ. A sweetie,
Of British styles...
A girl who trusted, laughed and cared..
Full of life, loved and cherished..
A shooting star...
Darkened too soon..
But embers reaching...
Sparkling still....
Never diminished....
Love is strength and conquers all..
It strides on full of strength, purposeful direction...always...

Basil please send that to her parents, that is so thoughtful of you. JMO

Does anyone know who owns the land on which Hannah was found? Is it privately or publically owned? Was it abandoned in that the land owner just hasn't paid taxes on it or just left the area? My family owns property, quite a bit of it, and some of it has structures on the parcels, and some do not. We use the term property regardless.
This is my understanding of the word "property", also.
