Hannah Graham: The Search - #4

The reward has gradually been increased since Hannah's disappearance - the initial amount was $10,000 and UVA and local citizens, businesses and agencies have increasingly contributed pledges to the award fund. The case has not left the news - certainly not the local news which is where it is important that it stays - the likelihood of a tip coming in from out of state that will lead to finding Hannah is pretty slim. The "reward" doesn't need to be increased in order to make the story relevant in the news. And as a UVA alum, I can assure you, if a tip came in that led to the safe return of Hannah, the tipster would have no problem collecting on the reward because the UVA community would make sure that the funds are available.

They do not expect to find Hannah alive, they do not expect to pay out 100k to anyone. They might as well raise the reward to $1 million. If someone does know where Hannah is, and she is alive, there is a big chance that person is going to jail, and I doubt there would be any controversy to pay him or her. And if the person is completely innocent and has no involvement, I am sure they could raise the $1 million reward for them.

Virginia farmer who found remains of '09 murder victim wonders if next grim discovery awaits

Most people would think 'never in a million years would JM hide Hannah on Mr Bass farm', as he did Morgan.

But what if he did, thinking LE would not expect him to. And I guess LE didn't because they didn't search there this time.

That's a 700+ acre farm. Lots of hiding places. And Hannah could have been placed far away from Morgan and still be on Bass property. Not likely, but stranger things have happened.

I also wonder if Gilamon knows if any "field parties" were ever held in his area.

Send us a sign, Hannah! Where could you be?

They are offering a 100k reward for Hannah's safe return, despite having an intensive ground search. I don't think they actually have 100k to give out. So why not just offer a 1 million, 10 million, maybe go up to a 50 million reward for Hannah's safe return? It would put the case back in the news...I can't think of any cases with that big of a reward.

I think it's time to offer a reward for information of her whereabouts period. Many are motivated by $;if they have knowledge where her body can be found, pay them;the cost of this search is pretty high.

I did not follow the MH case closely, mainly because it terrified me having a daughter about to enroll at VT or UVa. Wanting to bury my head in the sand and deny these awful things happen. As a result, I didn't know until reading about HG that details surrounding MH's possible inebriation/drug use weren't revealed until later in the search. That certainly doesn't make a difference in what happened to her. I'm wondering if possibly instead of slipping something into HG's drink he offered her Ectasy or a Molly (showing my age and drug ignorance as those two things may be the same) and she knowingly took it, hoping it would boost her energy after her exhausting evening. Again, that in no way implies she should have been taken advantage of, but may explain why she was in a different physical state leaving Tempo. If that is the case, maybe someone who knows someone in the mall area who supplies these drugs could tell is JM purchased anything from him/her. Typing that, I realize a drug dealer isn't going to call LE and confess to supplying drugs, but if LE had a source who sometimes shared information maybe it would help.

I just read an article from oct 7 (need to find link) that had an interview w/David Bass, the guy who found MH. Not that I think JM would hide HG in the same location, but I was somewhat surprised to read that Bass said LE had not searched his property this time.

Where are you getting that they didn't search the farm? According to the subsequent link you posted:

"The sprawling farm in Albemarle County, dubbed Anchorage Farm, was searched by police in the disappearance last month of University of Virginia student Hannah Graham."

Later in the article it says: "Bass, who has given police full permission to examine his farm, said he's not aware of any plans to re-search his property" but given that it was already stated at the beginning of the article that they searched it, I assume the re-search he refers to is in reference to a second search for Hannah Graham on the property.

I have a feeling that in a lot of these cases with big rewards, there would be a smear campaign launched against the person(s) who found the victim, alive or dead, so there wouldn't be any controversy or pressure to pay them.

I am relieved that they did.

Not trying to be amusing about haz mats. I wish there was a legal way to get him to talk.

The likelihood that JM told anyone about his crimes and where Hannah may be are slim. Cops have put the feelers out there asking to speak to anyone who has known JM throughout the years. IMO, it's being a good citizen to call in a tip by someone who knows/knew JM and says, he used to like this spot, etc. Money shouldn't be a motivating factor to call in a tip - wanting to be a good person and do the right thing should. If a person waited until a reward was announced to call in a tip, IMO, that makes them a pretty crappy human being.

What are some ways that LE has gotten serial killers to talk?

I figured the pings would give the answer. That does not appear to be the case.

They searched an 8 mile area. Having to increase the distance seems too impossible to me. The money and time are finite.

I don't think anyone but Jesse Matthews knows where Hannah is. This isn't like Christina Morris where most likely at least 2 others besides the perpetrator know where she probably is.

I wonder about this too. Do you think they have tried to get him to talk, and what can they legally do? It is beyond frustrating/maddening to think there is one person - most likely - who knows where Hannah is, and won't tell. I can only imagine how her family feels.

On Sept. 13, Matthew moved quickly. He caught up to Graham and went with her to an upscale restaurant and bar a block off the pedestrian mall.

"He seemed to be excited," said Brice Cunningham, owner of Tempo, where Matthew went twice that night.

Experts who have studied the security footage say it shows a pro at work.

"He has the ability to identify a potential victim — somebody who is young, out by themselves late at night and may be under the influence," said former FBI profiler Clint Van Zandt. "This guy has been around."

"It's the nice-guy side of Jesse," his landlord Frances Lee-Vandell said in a nod to Matthew's mild temperament punctuated by outbursts.

Someone mentioned campgrounds, particularly defunct deserted old summer camps, that might be connected to Jesse Matthew.

The Heidi Childs-David Metzler VA Tech student murders came up right after JLM's DNA was linked to Morgan Harrington and the 2005 Fairfax rape.

The nearest business to where the two young high school sweethearts were killed is a campground.

Do any of you locals see a connection to JLM?

Where did Red Hills youth, Monticello and Albermarle football players/wrestlers, church youth groups, YMCA/Boys Club kids go to camp?
