At first glance it looks like most homes decked out for the holidays.

A pair of miniature Christmas trees sits perched at the front door of Polly Caison’s orange stucco home. Multi-colored holiday lights hug the branches, their bulbs glowing warmly.

Inside it’s warm, cozy and spotless. Presents neatly wrapped in red paper lie bundled under the towering Christmas tree.

Barely audible holiday music jingles in the background as small flames crackle in the fireplace. Stately portraits of Tammy Moorer and other family members hang from the nearby wall and mantle.

Horry County murder cases stack up

The Horry County Solicitor’s Office set an all-time record for resolving murder cases in 2014, but even with that achievement the county’s list of pending murder charges continues to hover at close to 50, according to information provided by the Solicitor’s Office.

Solicitor Jimmy Richardson says he was shocked himself when he began to review his office’s numbers after receiving a request for pending murder cases from the Horry Independent.

In 2010 and 2011, Richardson’s office adjudicated six cases each year by plea or trial. In 2012, the office moved two murder cases. That number rose to 16 in 2013 and 18 in 2014.

Prosecutors are expected to call the case of a Myrtle Beach couple, who are charged in the disappearance of Heather Elvis, in 2015.

Tammy and Sidney Moorer are each charged with murder and kidnapping in Elvis’ disappearance in addition to several unrelated charges.

Elvis, who was 20 at the time, was reported missing Dec. 19, 2013, after Horry County police found her car, which was registered to her father, parked at the Peachtree boat landing. Elvis’ keys, cellphone and purse were not found in the locked car and she remains missing.

Horry County sues tech company after delays in installing cameras at boat landings

A Charlotte company that was paid to install wireless cameras at Horry County boat landings misled county officials about its ability to handle the project and never made significant progress on the system, according to a lawsuit filed this week.

Horry County is suing WildFire Connections for the more than $65,000 the company was advanced, plus damages.

A WildFire representative could not be reached for comment Wednesday.

County officials worked on the surveillance camera project for most of 2014. Plans originally called for installing the cameras at six of the county’s 28 boat landings, including Peachtree Landing, where a missing Socastee woman named Heather Elvis was last seen in December 2013.

State grants worth $57,000 were earmarked for placing the cameras at Chris Anderson Landing, Red Bluff Landing, S.C. 22/U.S. 17 Interchange Landing, Reaves Ferry Landing, Enterprise Landing and, of course, Peachtree.

Trial date set for Heather Elvis murder case

A trial date has been set for the week of May 11 for Tammy and Sidney Moorer, who are charged in the death of Heather Elvis, according to court documents filed Dec. 31.

The state has also asked for an 800 panel of possible jurors for the weeks of May 11 and May 18.

Jury selection will begin May 11.

Defense team files motion to reduce bond in Heather Elvis case

According to the motion filed by Kirk Truslow, attorney for Sidney Moorer, “the defense would show that a reconsideration of the bond decision is warranted at the present time. Defense counsel has had the opportunity to review the discovery provided.”

Authorities on Friday shut down and conducted an "ongoing investigation" on a road where an Horry County couple lived who are charged in the death and disappearance of a young Myrtle Beach woman, Heather Elvis.

15th Circuit Solicitor Jimmy Richardson said Tuesday that portions of SC Highway 814, the same road where Tammy and Sidney Moorer lived in a home together, were shut down for investigators.

New bond hearing set for pair charged in Heather Elvis' death


Just days after a detectives conducted a search near the house of an Horry County couple charged in the death of a young woman, a bond reconsideration hearing is planned for the pair.

The street where murder suspects Tammy and Sidney Moorer lived was closed for a criminal case search on Friday, officials said. The couple is charged in the death and disappearance of Heather Elvis, age 20, of Myrtle Beach who vanished a few days before Christmas 2013 -- and still has not been found.

Now, officials say that the Moorers will travel to Charleston for a hearing to focus on bond adjustments -- just days from now.

“I can't say a whole lot about it because it exists. And that's the irony of it. I can't talk about really the reasons we'd like it to be lifted because the gag order is in place to keep us from talking about the evidence. That creates some issues for us and we would prefer to be able to speak more freely about the case.”

CHARLESTON, SC (WMBF) – The bond hearing for Tammy and Sidney Moorer is now scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Friday morning in Charleston.

WMBF News will have cameras in the courtroom and is live-streaming the proceedings on WMBFNews.com.

The hearing was originally scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday morning, but according to a clerk for Judge Markley Dennis, it was moved to 10 a.m. Friday morning instead.

CHARLESTON, SC (WMBF) - Bond has been granted for both Sidney and Tammy Moorer, the couple accused of the kidnapping and murder of Heather Elvis.

The bond was set by a Charleston judge at a bond reconsideration hearing Friday. The Moorers' trial is currently scheduled for May, and they have been in jail since their arrest in February 2014. Bond was set at $100,000 for all charges related to the Heather Elvis case, and both are required to wear a GPS monitoring device.

Tammy and Sidney Moorer smiled Friday as they left a Charleston courtroom after a circuit court judge set bond for them for the first time on charges of murder and kidnapping in the disappearance of Heather Elvis.

Their attorneys were confident that once the paperwork was filed they would be released quickly from J. Reuben Long Detention Center, which is where they were returned to by Horry County Sheriff’s deputies after the hearing.

After almost a year in jail, a $100k bond each was set for Sidney and Tammy Moorer, the couple charged with murdering Heather Elvis.
