About the stench of human decomposition that Puakenikeni was talking about....isn't it likely that Steven would've vomited out there? And couldn't one or more of the "fly egg-laying events" have been occurred in that vomit? Handling stinking, rotting human remains would surely activate the gag-reflexes of nearly everyone. (Sorry for the repulsive subject matter)

I agree with Maisiebelle that Steven is a narcissist. But I also think a lot of the persona on display on his Instagram (in memes, etc) is just bluster - overcompensation because he's likely quite insecure deep down. I believe he was bullied as a youngster in school.

I've never heard about the comment made about killing again to a coworker...

Portion of tree with cut marks brought to court

Earles said he cut down the tree at ground level on March 4, 2014, after the cuts were observed by a police officer searching the area. Earles preserved the lower portion of the tree with the cut marks.
"From the ground level up to approximately the middle of where the cuts were was about 10 inches," Earles said.
Testifying in the 2nd Circuit Court murder trial of Steven Capobianco, Earles showed the lower cut portion of the 18-foot-tall tree to jurors. He also pointed out its location in photos that showed other evidence, including a black bra with cuts, a body piercing, three skin fragments, a bone fragment, five fingernails and a pool of maggots, nearby.
Police found the evidence while searching a wooded area at the bay in the days after civilians reported finding clothing and a blanket there belonging to Capobianco's ex-girlfriend Carly "Charli" Scott.

On June 4, 2014, Souki said he again photographed Capobianco's 4Runner and chemically processed it for the presence of blood. In the center console of the vehicle was a container of Mace, which Souki later swabbed for DNA testing.
The owner of the 1992 lifted 4Runner previously testified that he found the Mace in the console after he repossessed the vehicle from Capobianco in March 2014.
A friend of Scott previously testified that he saw a container of Mace in her vehicle when they went for a drive shortly before she went missing.

Interesting! What do you make of this, sleuthers?

I know SC had a can of bear mace at some point, it's on his Instagram.

Moxie, not to gang up on you but why did you bring up SC vomiting? And who wasn't bullied at some point in their childhood? That's the hard knocks of life. It should make you stronger and teach you your self worth is not based on what some punk kid thinks. Being bullied never gives a person carte blanche to exact revenge on the world. That's some juvenile, comic book mentality. Something a millennial would say.

Capobianco Trial: Hand Injuries Detailed, Warrant Executed for Hair Samples

Mahalo Wendy Osher and Maui Now!

An evidence specialist with the Maui Police Department detailed hand injuries observed on the defendant days after Carly “Charli” Scott went missing.

Vincent Souki, who has worked as an evidence specialist with the Maui Police Department for 19 years, testified Monday in the murder trial for Capobianco...

Police also answered questions on Monday about the chemical processing of Steven Capobianco’s vehicle for the presence of blood, and the execution of a search warrant to collect hair samples from the defendant as part of their homicide investigation.

-------------------------------------------

Souki explained, “We always take the hands to determine whether there is any injury or not.” On the back of the right hand, a photo was taken to “define an injury across the back of the hand.”

Souki described an injury that extended along the back side of the right hand saying, “The abrasion appeared to be about 10 cm or about 4 inches and it was across the complete back of the hand from below the knuckles… in between the wrist and the knuckles, right across the back of his hand, and it kind of wrapped around the outside by the little finger,” describing the outside area as the “writer’s palm,” or the “outside surface of the back of the hand.”

Souki said, “As noted in the photograph, it appears to be a more deeper abrasion to the outside of the hand as opposed to the inside,” or webbing area that was described by the prosecution.

“The knuckles appeared to be a little red and possibly abraded–slightly abraded, not real definitive, but they are a little discolored, different from the other tissue than the other skin around the area,” said Souki. “They don’t appear to be very swollen or anything, but they appear to be a little discolored,” he said, noting that the discoloration was also visible on the back of the hand around the abrasion.

In describing the defendant’s left hand, Souki said, “His hand also had what looked like an abraded injury on the little finger–the first knuckle.”

“It appeared to be two linear lines that were right across the knuckle on the back of the left hand,” said Souki, noting that each of the lines was approximately three-quarters of an inch long. “It runs from the inside of the knuckle, what appears to be the knuckle, around the top of the knuckle, and around the inside surface of the hand,” he said.

In explaining injuries to the palms of Capobianco’s hands, Souki said, “It appeared that he had a little nick, some type of an injury on the inside of the palm (thumb).” Souki said the injury was a circular cut or scratch that was “a little red around the injury itself,” and measured a little more than a quarter inch in length.

Because people are trying to figure out what Steven did at various times with the body based on the maggot testimony from Dr. Goff, but I'm saying if he had vomited out there then that could be a source for a fly to lay maggots on (like maybe the maggots that were found on the ground in the "indentation"). So it might not be possible to map out his covering/uncovering of the body if there was a different food source out there for the maggots.

About bullying, totally agree that that's no excuse for killing anyone. But strongly disagree that bullying should be accepted because it toughens people up. Bullying is not cool, it should be stopped IMO.

Mace is sometimes used against other aggressive dogs.

Thanks, Nikki.

The thing that I had not heard before was that a friend of Charli's had previously testified that SHE had a can of Mace in her car.

I have 2 thoughts about that.

1. If a stranger had approached Charli that night, she had her dog, Nala, AND a can of Mace to deter an attack.
2. Evidence Specialist Souki swabbed the can found in SC's vehicle for DNA, so we will soon see whose Mace canister it was.

Make that 3 thoughts.

3. SC could have used the Mace on Nala... or Charli.

I think vomiting is a reasonable idea to bring up, but it's just not consistent with the entomologists testimony and I would refer you back to the archived segments.

The spot where the maggots were was also alerted by the cadaver dog, which are highly trained to respond only to human decomp, which is not the same smell as vomit.

The smell of decomp by the highway bridge at Nua'ailua literally stopped people who were driving through, according to Kyle Knight. Some vomit a quarter mile away would not do that. There are numerous references to how awful the stench was in the area, still, from 3-6 days after the murder. That cannot be accounted for by vomit, so I think it's pretty clear that vomit is not needed to provide the food source for the younger maggots. Could it also have been present? Sure, but I just don't think it invalidates the testimony by Goff if so. JMO.

I hope they will say if the canister had been used or not.
What friend of hers testified who would fit?

Drew Kaiser? Adam Gaines? Ed Feiteira?

One of the jurors asked if the canister was full, but the judge disallowed the question. If I have time, I will go back and review to remember why.

Good picture of the tree from today's Maui News.

Not a lot. With all the Goofballs who let their Pits run around with out leashes makes one want some Mace. I imagine a Pit Owner knows this more than anyone.

Maybe she used it on him, hence the crazy face seen by Jennifer Taylor

I wish! I think he used it on her. He probably used her mace on her face. Maybe she starts swearing and yelling in pain and he starts with his knife attack. She'd be unable to defend herself. What a coward he is. Ugh!!!

Mox, I love that you think outside the box. My signature reminds me of that. Ideas may be shot down or not plausible but it sure gets people thinking. Don't stop. I appreciate the thought you put in.

Or...
He turned right at the bottom of Kapakalua..she didnt want to go to Hana...He wouldnt turn around or stop. ..she sprayed him..he got enraged and pulled over at Twin Falls and stabbed her repeatedly. Now what?

I have witnessed someone being maced for police academy training. It is beyond brutal. He had red and agitated eyes hours after the initial spraying.

Stacy Renee Annerman, an OB-GYN, who has private practice at Maui Lani Physicians and Surgeons and also practices at Maui Memorial Medical Center is testifying today.

She saw Charli twice during her pregnancy, once on Jan. 15 and once on Jan. 27, 2014.

Three members of the jury work out at the same gym as the witness so they need to question those jurors.
