Sometimes it seems like they just hand out driver's licenses for the asking, but actually, people have to pass both a written test and a driving test in California.

The California I.D. card is almost a must have for anyone of any age who doesn't drive or doesn't have a driver's license for whatever reason. To get one, you have to apply for it in person, fill out an application, give a thumbprint, have your picture taken, give your social security number, verify your birth date and legal presence (in other words provide a birth certificate).

The new I.D. gets mailed out within 60 days.

It is against the law to run a "name" through the DMV just for the heck of it. Even law enforcement people may not do that. Obviously, DMV people may not do it either.

i think what this shows is that she really is going forward, whatever or however long it takes to get it lol

As I.B. Nora explained, in CA you must go in person to a DMV office for a Driver's License to take the written test- supervised (so you don't cheat), the driving test, and an eye exam, unless... you are renewing your license and sometimes you can do that by mail, which will be good for several years.

Learner's permits are usually good for 6 months, since she has a California ID, maybe her driving skills aren't there yet, or maybe she's going to wait the 6 months until she's less recognizable/people have forgotten about the magazine cover...

Fair enough, it does take time to graduate from a learners permit to an actual licence.
Lets hope we just never find out where she lives

From an article in the Media thread- it was revealed that Phil chose the names Angel and Starlit for the girls, and so Jaycee has chosen to change both their names! I think this is a very positive start for them towards their healing. I'm assuming the birth certificates did NOT use the last name of Garrido!:woohoo:

That's great if it's true, but I'm still not sure yet. Would that be before or after the b.c.'s were issued? I've read a lot of articles that in the b.c.'s only one of the girl's names' was changed... and yes, Dugard was listed as their last name. But anyway, If BOTH of them now have changed their names I guess one of them must have changed it after the b.c. otherwise either this article is inaccurate or the previous reports are inaccurate.

I was just thinking about that issue though yesterday, of who named the girls. If PG gave them the names it makes sense that they would be changed.

But I would have to see more than just a blurb inserted in an article as almost an afterthought to be convinced that this report is a reliable.

I was hoping she would do that. It is just one more step in allowing her to experience her own opinions, feelings, decisions.

We do not need to see more. Only a BC would convince someone. ON THIS I will go with trusting that it is true.

So far with the help of therapy, her family JC is making the right decisions.

i know we've talked about her healing in 'stages'. im so glad she has a famly behind her that loves and supports her. the fritzl case in europe was horrific and on top of it, the perp was the father, and his accomplice by stupidity was her mother. months after she was freed, she left moved away from her mother, she found it incredible that there was no way her mom didnt know what was going on. now she is pretty much on her own with her kids (all 'fathered' by her 'father')
what we have here in this situation, is a strong woman who has already endured so much, surrounded by a strong and loving family. now, no, nothing is or will ever be 'perfect, and there are many rough times ahead im sure. but she has, imo, reached another 'stage'. the stage to say 'no, i will not be controlled by these animals'. and this is huge.
