I can’t deal with any more scary weather updates or images of massive debris piles right now... As @enelram said... hurricane fatigue has set in.

So here’s some happier thoughts...

Dan Francis, Atlanta Chef & founder of the Panhandle Pasta Project, is taking up to 15,000 marinara meals to Bahamas to feed people for 5 days.

He fed 13,000 people after Hurricane Michael. Now, he’s preparing to feed more after Dorian.
Yeah, I know exactly how you feel. I'm already burned out and now have to wait for this hurricane to come in. I think I'm going to turn some music on after dinner.

Prisma Health is waiving online care fees in preparation for Hurricane Dorian.

"SmartExam," online care for more than 100 common conditions, will be offered at no charge to residents who have been impacted by the hurricane.

SmartExam is available between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. for minor medical conditions, including colds, flu, sinus pain, urinary tract infections, allergies and skin rashes. The usual cost for a diagnosis and treatment plan is $20, but the fee has been waived for residents impacted by the hurricane.

To receive a free SmartExam, go to PalmettoHealth.org/SmartExam or ghs.org/smartexam-registration/ and use the code, PrismaHealthDorian.

The program is for adults 18 and older and is not intended for use in a medical emergency.

"It takes your mind off your problems and puts the focus on others," said Geraldine Minter, who stopped by to volunteer, as well. "I think that shows what Charleston is all about people helping people that's what we’re about."

The give away was pre-planned even before Hurricane Dorian's track, but the Lowcountry Food Bank added emergency hurricane kits with additional non-perishables to the giveaway.

"I just love it. We need to meet people. See their passion and realize we’re not different at all. We all want the same things," Minter said.

And I hate to mention this BUT there are TWO
storms now forming off the coast of Africa.
This is the area where many hurricanes befin.
Peak season as in especially the Cape Verde Atlantic Ocean storms. These sometimes come all the way across to eastern US. Sometimes turn and head back east and are carried by the Westerlies. One even affected England and France iir.

We are leaving Savannah- not so concerned w flooding, but w cat 2 winds & trees falling thru our roof & landing on our heads. Too many live oaks & pine in the area.

Speaking of cat- he hates the car, but this time practically ran TO the leash. Makes me wonder what he knows something the weather people don’t.

Sorry this is happening to you, and I hope the cat is wrong.

A fisherman saw his wife drown in Dorian flood

From CNN's Patrick Oppmann

Freeport resident Howard Armstrong described how his wife drowned in front of him after the storm surge from Hurricane Dorian swamped their home.

"We were doing all right until the water kept coming up and all the appliances were going around the house, like the washer machine," said Armstrong, who is a crab fisherman.

The water flooded the home to the point that his wife had to climb on top of their kitchen cabinets, Armstrong said.

Only their heads were above the water. After hours of waiting in the flooded house for rescue, Armstrong’s wife succumbed to hypothermia and slipped under the water.

“She was gone so quickly,” Armstrong said as he waited for his wife’s body to be recovered.

Armstrong said he then "took a chance" and swam outside the house, and was rescued.

I fear that this was the experience of many more residents in the Bahamas except that most who were trapped in their homes did not survive to tell their story of terror. IMO this will be a massive recovery effort. I hope I am wrong. :(:(:(

----------------------------

STORM SURGE: The combination of a dangerous storm surge and the
tide will cause normally dry areas near the coast to be flooded by
rising waters moving inland from the shoreline. The water could
reach the following heights above ground somewhere in the indicated
areas if the peak surge occurs at the time of high tide...

Isle of Palms to Myrtle Beach SC...5 to 8 ft
Savannah River to Isle of Palms SC...4 to 7 ft
Myrtle Beach SC to Cape Lookout NC...4 to 7 ft
Cape Lookout NC to Duck NC, including Pamlico and Albemarle Sounds
and the Neuse and Pamlico Rivers...4 to 6 ft
Volusia/Brevard County Line FL to Savannah River...3 to 5 ft
Sebastian Inlet FL to Volusia/Brevard County Line FL...2 to 4 ft
Duck NC to Poquoson VA, including Hampton Roads...2 to 4 ft

Water levels could begin to rise well in advance of the arrival of
strong winds. The surge will be accompanied by large and
destructive waves. Surge-related flooding depends on the how close
the center of Dorian comes to the coast, and can vary greatly over
short distances. For information specific to your area, please see
products issued by your local National Weather Service forecast
office.

RAINFALL: Dorian is expected to produce the following rainfall
totals through Friday:

Coastal Carolinas...5 to 10 inches, isolated 15 inches.
Atlantic Coast from Daytona Beach, Florida to the Georgia-South
Carolina border...3 to 6 inches, with isolated 9 inches near the
Georgia coast.
Southeast Virginia...3 to 6 inches.

This rainfall may cause life-threatening flash floods.

In addition to Dorian, TS Fernand is still in the Gulf of Mexico approaching Mexico, there's still the area of low pressure moving closer to Bermuda, TD-8 has strengthened into TS Gabrielle, and there's an area of low pressure still over Africa that has a <40% chance of becoming cyclonic within the next 48 hrs.
