I really thought these babies would have been found by now. I thought it was a local perp, but now I wonder. It is possible that a roving, transient abducted them and took them out of state. They could be anywhere. :rose::star::rose:

I would hope they would know, but it sure wouldn't hurt anyone to ask them to keep their eyes open, and if they find clothing or something out of place to call it in- would it?

JMO

Of course not, just saying that it shouldn't be necessary for LE to tell hunters to keep their eyes open. Didn't they already ask for help from the public a few weeks ago, asking people to call if they noticed anything out of the ordinary?

I'm really worried about both of them, they both look like they've lost weight (and Heather had none to spare).

I thought at first Heather looked better than she did last summer, then I realised it was all due to indoor lighting (less harsh than sunlight and more forgiving) and more layers of clothes that tend to conceal how dangerously thin she is.

I wish so much I could make it better for both of them.

I just read one of the articles thoroughly and this stood out -

Several callers to the KWWL newsroom said they saw law enforcement activity Wednesday night, and wondered what was going on in Evansdale.

The callers and e-mailers said several law enforcement vehicles were on the streets and that they saw at least one helicopter in the skies above the community.
Wednesday evening, Black Hawk County Sheriff's Department Chief Deputy Captain Richard Abben confirmed with KWWL that there is additional law enforcement presence in Evansdale.

He said DCI investigators have about 110 homes they want to visit in this effort. Abben explained there are some people who live in the area who were not home during the initial door-to-door search. There are also new families who have moved into the neighborhood surrounding Meyers Lake.

KWWL has not confirmed the use of a helicopter Wednesday night in Evansdale. However, law enforcement agencies around the country often use helicopters, or other aircraft, equipped with FLIR thermal imaging technology. FLIR airborne thermal imaging systems have been around for more than 25 years. FLIR stands for Forward Looking Infrared Technology.

This technology lets investigators see in total darkness and in most kinds of weather conditions, including fog, smoke and haze.

By using wavelengths longer than those used by a conventional night-vision camera, FLIR creates an image using infrared energy. The technology senses infrared radiation. The use of long wave infrared allows detection of heat, including body heat. Most of these highly advanced systems also use digital imaging processing to greatly improve image quality.

Thoughts -

There was a large operation centred on a small area of Evansdale on Wednesday night.

That investigation included extra officers, helicopters, etc, so it sounds as though they saturated the neighbourhood.

The inclusion of the helicopter with the infrared tells me they are looking for something definite in those 110 homes.

I had thought the infrared was for soil disturbance (potential graves) but they'd done that earlier in the search.

What if....

What if the blitz on Wednesday night was to question each house, all at once, ascertain the occupancy, then compare it to infrareds of live people?

What if Lizzie and Lyric are still alive, hidden in one/some of those 110 houses, and LE know it or suspect it, they just can't prove it because someone's lying?

Far fetched I know, but the FBI did say they believed the girls were still alive...what if they are right?

It's Sunday morning here so it's 100 days exactly since they disappeared. I feel like I've stumbled across a little glimmer of hope.

:please:

I hope that your hope becomes reality. That case still baffles me. From the start, I have believed that they were abducted by someone they were meeting at the park.

I like your thinking. I have always suspected the girls were taken or lured to one of the houses between their house and the lake, or near the lake. Of course they could still be around there, hidden cellar room or a hidden room in a garage or outbuilding. In the Purloined Letter where did it say the best place is to hide something? In plain sight. Did we ever hear back from Ollipop as it whether his home was ever searched? And his home was near the lake. I think your suspicion is very valid!

I think the FLEER was to watch for someone scooting out the back while cops were knocking on the front door.

Interesting quote from this article -

"If we can help, by when we're telling people when they're out in the woods -- keep an eye out looking for them. We need to bring them home," said store director Chad Hartogh.

"Keep people's awareness up so they're keeping their eyes out for them, so we can get them home safely," Hartogh added.

Does the shop guy know something we don't too?

:please:

If they're out in the woods, they're not going to be alive after this long. Not unless they're stashed in a little cabin somewhere, which most hunters are not going to be looking at too closely if it's on someone's property.

I seriously doubt that they're stashed in someone's cellar or basement, either. But that's just MOO.

Driving home last night from out of town, we decided to stop at a motel on HWY 20 in Iowa instead of driving straight through. In the lobby, there was a stack of handouts with pictures and info of two missing girls. They were Lyric and Elizabeth, and we were in Evansdale! I've been following the case, but hadn't really paid attention to the name of the town we'd stopped in. It was different than I'd pictured, less flat and more forested. There were lots of ditches, ponds, and arroyos (not sure what they call these in Iowa.) Our motel was the next exit east of where the girls disappeared and there were lots of trucks and truckers there. Also, the motel seemed filled with hinky folks -- or maybe that's just my twisted world view. :blushing:

Despite the number of transient visitors and the hinkiness of the motel guests, I really got the impression that it was most likely a local who did something with Lyric and Elizabeth. The lake and nature trail are really tucked away down residential streets and wouldn't be obvious to anyone who happened to be driving through.

Iowa is far from flat! Tens of thousands of RAGBRAI'ers (Register Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa) can testify to that. RAGBRAI always starts at the western border and goes across the state to the eastern border because overall Iowa has an eastward tilt. However, that tilt doesn't make a bit of difference when you're pedalling up the umpteenth hill of the day.

I think that what you are calling an arroyo is what Iowans would call a swale. A swale is a low place without a waterway but that can get flooded in a heavy rainfall.

Iowa is on the edge of the Great Plains and so it has always had mixed habitat, some of it plains (open grassland), some of it forested.

I agree with you that this case has always screamed to me of a perp with local knowledge. Meyer's Lake is just not a place that is easily found off the interstate. You really would have to go looking for it.

Still hoping that the girls are stolen, but relatively safe somewhere, like in an attic - or back of a store.
Iowa has come alive for me with the many interesting observations from native Iowan posters, thanks to all who took the time to share info with everyone. Those girls came from a nice town with nice caring people and I hope they are returned soon.
