I guess that sex offender treatment didn't work, did it? Who are they kidding? Do they really think that they can cure the guy who was convicted of kidnapping a woman and two toddlers?

Regarding Klunder, he got a lot of time off for "good behavior." I think this is atrocious! I've heard that giving good behavior time to prisoners makes them easier to deal with. I believe other perks should be given, such as lighter duties, additional conjugal visits, more telephone time, etc.

Good behavior time earned in prison, IMO, is insulting to the victims who suffered from someone's bad behavior in real life.

The various ages of MK's known victim's is very curious...

ITA. Good behavior in prison isn't the same as good behavior outside. For once, he didn't have opportunities to abduct any females while in prison.

If sexual predator Michael Klunder is responsible for Elizabeth & Lyric's abduction/murder, and I am confident that he is. Imo, the Justice system is complicit in all four of these children's abductions/murders. Everyone involved in MK's release from prison in 2011, should hang their heads in shame, imo...

It's not the Justice System that is complicit in Kathlynn's murder. :stormingmad:

We have to remember that the Justice System can only administer the laws. The laws are the weak point, not the judges, LE, or lawyers.

Who makes laws? Politicians. It follows then, that the only people who can get things changed are the voters.

Let's hope the voters in Iowa (and everywhere else) begin to be horrified enough to demand stricter sentencing on people who hurt children. As a democracy, it's in the public's hands, not the "justice system".

A society is judged on the way it treats its children. I say we're pretty much all responsible. :(

If there is any evidence Klunder was in Evansdale, I haven't seen it. He has a connection to Bremer County but IIRC, that's the closest we can put him to Evansdale.

Was his job with the in-laws one where he was able to be away for long periods of time without having to account for his whereabouts?

I've always felt the person who took and killed Lyric and Lizzie was someone local who was familiar with Meyers Lake and knew where to park without being seen. To me, Klunder just doesn't fill the bill. JMO

It sure appears that way -

I am sure LE is going over his private communications with a fine tooth
comb!

The various ages of MK's known victim's is very curious...

To me it speaks to a general psychosis vs some mere personality disorder
(neuroisis) which may or may not be manageable.

It's an extremely serious situation in any event. This guy would be hard if
not impossible, for anyone to control once he got started.

Was he ever examined by a trained psychiatrist/neurologist? I mean
examined years ago! His medical records need to be gathered and examined.
His autopsy needs to be thorough... and search for some actual brain pathology.

I could not agree more with the Bremer County Sheriff. There needs to be better
predictability and management, in situations like these which gestate only to resurface
time after time after time until it is out of everyone's control.

Only thing I read was from here. Someone said Klunder was friends with an RSO (TC) that lives on River Road Forest. Very close to Brovan. That's what links him. Now where did I read that at here?

When Kathlynn disappeared, TC was listed as a friend of Klunders on FB. (He quickly unfriended him.)

Lawmaker speaks out on Michael Klunder's case
Sen. Jerry Behn proposes to legalize death penalty in Iowa

BOONE, Iowa —Michael Klunder's history has many people asking how he was freed from prison.

Shepard family: Our family, Dayton,...

Sen. Jerry Behn wrote the Iowa law that says sex offenders cannot live within 2,000 feet of a school or day care. He proposed another law that he said might have prevented Klunder's release, but it failed to pass year after year.

"If I had it my way, he would have never served those 20 years. He'd have been executed after the kidnap and rape (case)," said Behn.

Behn is in the business of providing answers, but all he has are questions after his district was turned upside down by the kidnapping of Kathlynn Shepard.

DAYTON, Iowa (AP) --- When Michael Klunder enticed two girls to enter his pickup truck near a rural Iowa school bus stop Monday, it was at least his third kidnapping in a long criminal history in which he was ordered to receive sex offender treatment as a teenager, according to police.

Even as authorities searched Wednesday for the still missing 15-year-old, residents and some law enforcement officials questioned why the 42-year-old Klunder wasn't locked up in prison or for treatment. In 1991, Klunder kidnapped a 21-year-old woman, who escaped, and later two 3-year-old girls, who were found alive in a garbage bin.

“It's unfortunate, looking at this guy's history, that he was able to walk the streets,” said Bremer County Sheriff Dan Pickett.

You think so Sheriff Pickett? Maybe you will voice your concerns to lawmakers. OH BOY I just got a great thought. Over in Kathlynns' thread, we've been discussing how to keep sickos' off the streets more permanently and attempting to change the laws and LE themselves would be a great first step. No one knows better than LE how many repeat offenders there are and how much worse each crime gets !

MK's MO...Read MK's 1st Victim; Gansen's description of the physical violence that she suffered at the hands of the sadistic monster; Michael Klunder. Multiple bruises and over 100 stitches. A Sadistic Sexual Predator/Serial killer's physical violence and deviant behavior escalates and they hone their evil skills with each innocent victim devoured.

If the 12-year-old Dayton, Iowa, girl had not escaped, predator/sk Michael Klunder, would be hunting his next unsuspecting child in another quiet and friendly community with a false sense of security, imo..
This is why Law Enforcement must share all information with the American Public when a child goes missing, especially when there are indicators of a possible stranger abduction as in Elizabeth Collins, and Lyric Cook's case. The present focus by LE is on prosecution. This priority must be changed, to identifying and locating the predator before other innocent victims are taken...imo

'Tragic Irony'- the two Dayton, Iowa, girls/victims were taken only days before National Missing Children's Day; May 24, 2013 ...

BBM ... how can the focus be on prosecution without first identifying the predator?

All reports I've read state that the three year olds were unharmed.

Klunder was convicted of assaulting a young woman. He served a prison sentence. How could anyone have predicted that he would murder a teenage girl after release from prison?

Is the criticism of the legal system that it has failed to execute any person that has assaulted another person? I don't understand the criticism of a legal system that released a man from prison after he served his sentence. It sounds like it was all by the book ... which means that there are many other people like him in Iowa - not all of whom go on to murder a teenager.

Personally, I wouldn't describe being kidnapped at 3, put in a trunk and driven 50 miles away to be left in a trash bin with no adult comfort as "unharmed", but yes, one of the toddlers had been choked.

"Klunder put the girls into a trunk and drove them to a secluded area in Northwood, about 50 miles away, and left them in a trash bin. A county worker found the girls alive hours later. A doctor later found that one girl had been choked."

Sorry all, newish to this thread, ( tks foxfire) but why so long for a COD on these girls?

georger, I am sure they are.. Imo, Michael J. Klunder's MO & signature would be much more revealing than his communications history. MJK is/was very sadistic and would leave obvious signs, patterns, and residue, imo.

Predators that serve prison time have ample time to educate themselves on past mistakes by them and by others. They are aware that if they become a POI or suspect in an abduction, that their communication trail will be scrutinized by investigators.

Most experienced predators such as Donnie F. Jones(TN) utilize burner phones, while others fabricate elaborate plans to go dark as in the case of AK predator/serial killer Israel Keyes..
