I'm still trying to get my head around a guy without a job who naps in the afternoons.

Dan wasnt working.

He was home taking a nap.

Which has ALWAYS made me wonder what exactly he was doing between being notified (around 2ish?) and arriving on the scene at around 5.

Oh my And it bothered me about heather's dr alibi. . . Wound not LE check that heather had a dr appointment that morning? ? ? :tantrum:

At this stage I have no idea what LE are doing. Their silence is maddening.

The only reassuring news is that certain individuals are in jail already.

Interesting.

Governor Branstad update.

refresher- fired lead investigator in Elizabeth & Lyric's case.

Special Agent in Charge Larry Hedlund, a 25-year veteran investigator, had been lead investigator in the high-profile murders of two girls abducted from Evansdale in July 2012.

New information about his administration.

DIRECTOR FIRED: Hush Money ‘Tip Of The Iceberg’

She also suspects there are problems with the Branstad administration’s contracting and hiring practices.

“I believe the hush money is just the tip of the iceberg.”

If this does end up being related to drugs I won't be surprised for one second if dirty cops aren't in on the meth/drug trafficking - inside the jails/prisons and out.

I've said from the beginning that I think this investigation has had entirely too many big "whoopsie's" that would make a prosecutor's case extremely difficult. Not to mention how sickeningly silent this whole case has been from day 1.

We here on WS could run down a list of people who've had serious charges brought against them and have either had them dropped or plead down to next to nothing and continue to walk the streets doing what they do...strange coincidence?

Broaden your view of who would potentially have motive, knows when these people have court, knows who's possibly going to smear your name and blow the whole thing wide open, throw you under the bus, knows these families, etc. and your list of who-done-it just widened significantly.

I'm not saying this is the most likely scenario...however, as I said above, IF this case does end up being drug related I think there is potential for some surprises in who knew/knows what.

There are reasons Iowa is now known as "methland".

You have to blame inadequate policing, prevention, and ownership of the situation.

Those who are IN CHARGE of policing, prevention, and laws surrounding this issue are the ones who are failing.

Look at Klunder - set free to roam the countryside at will. That tells me someone is asleep at the wheel.

I sure agree with you. If it is drug related, which is my theory, I would not be surprised to learn there has been a cover up. People will go to great extremes to protect their reputations. JMO

Supposedly their last sighting was on camera when they were riding their bikes at a high speed away from the lake. Yet, we heard that the girls approached some boys at the back of a store (grocery?) where they asked directions to the lake. What if the boy's story was true? Would that have been before or after they were seen on the camera?

Elizabeth knew the way to the lake. She did get down near there often, according to some residents near the lake. Maybe she only knew the way she normally went, but not if she went on a different road?

I have long believed that rumour.

Mainly because it fits with my theory the girls were SENT to the lake.

Good point! Refresher on the gentleman who says he regularly saw Elizabeth. . .
Mr. X, who lives north of the lake, said he saw the girls between 12 and 3 p.m. while he was outside watering his yard.

“I was out watering my yard between 12 and 3:00 and the girls rode their bikes right by our house,” Mr. X said. He and his wife, Mrs. X, were at Meyers Lake this morning to observe the activity.

“We see them practically all the time ride their bikes right past our house, but they come down and turn around in the street,” he said.

http://www.desmoinesregister.com/art...-disappearance

So let's say Elizabeth and Lyric went to the children's house Elizabeth usually rode to the lake with, but those kids weren't home, but Elizabeth felt confident she could find her way to the lake herself, but ended up lost and asking for directions.

BTW, this is the video where the wife corrects his time - he says he saw the girls between 12 and 1 and wife corrected him to between 12 and 3:00.

I do find it interesting that we never really heard from anyone else on that street that Elizabeth rode her bike almost daily. No reporter asked any parents on that street what they thought about the missing girls... It's like everybody clammed up and they clammed up quick - except for the family who only wanted to talk to NG and JVM and not LE. Yet LE tells MM and DM to shut their traps or they will be arrested. . . which they eventually were. . . yet somehow it makes me think that some people in Black Hawk County, pretty high up in LE or a lawyer and/or both, have dirty, dirty hands. Like SS said, it's a vicious circle. :scared:

BTW, MM did not look like she did in her mugshut at the 1-year-anniversary of the girls' disappearance at Meyers Lake last year. She looked healthy so her back slide into drugs happened after that IMO. I don't think they had anything to do with what happened to the girls, not directly any way, but to the guilty party or someone protecting the guilty party or parties, they made the perfect fall guys.

If stolfus and/or beahr were in on this, I find it hard to believe they have not figured out their whereabouts and enough evidence on them by now?

yes, they surely had a motive, but dan changed his plea. Maybe they didn't believe him?

Or if their friends/relatives knew they were unaccounted for on 7/13, don't you think they would have gone to LE for the reward $$ by now?

Dan took the rap, the heat and all the prison time for all 3 of them combined.

I would think if Dan knew or suspected them, LE would surely know by now?? He's not going anywhere.

But, if they all were doing drugs at the time, who knows!

I have a suspicion that Dan might have a pretty good idea of who did it, but whomever it is they are in a position of power and have a whole lotta money or somebody backing them with a whole lotta money. Sometimes I feel like Elizabeth and Lyric were the sacrificial lambs. Somebody wanted dan and they wanted him bad. He's right where they wanted him and LE sits back and says nothing, neither yay or nay regarding MK. Easier to let John Q. Public believe it was the family or a random sex offender than actually grow a pair and visit the hood and road paved with crack houses. If someone was looking for DM they might have thought he was hanging close to E'dale, or maybe somebody was dealing in E'dale and picking up a package to deliver to Waterloo when they came across the girls.

Yes, the abduction happened on the Collins' turf, but I have no doubt evil drifted into E'dale from Waterloo on that fateful day in July 2012 and took the girls as quiet and deadly as a chicken snake slithers in and swallows eggs from a hen's nest.

Last week, there was a shooting/robbery at Veridian credit union, maybe 1.5 miles west of Evansdale on Lafayette. There were lots of comments on Facebook about that area, much of that stretch of Lafayette from Evansdale to Waterloo has crack houses, etc. Don't really knows if that's true, but the comment up thread about the girls possibly being held in an abandoned house made me think.... Probably not to far from Stolfus's stomping grounds.

okay. This is what I'm talking 'bout. Did we not hear first hand that the vehicle that was seen at the lake left and turned onto lafayette?

Trout fishing event for kids Saturday

WATERLOO | The Cedar Valley Walleye Club is hosting a family fishing day at North Prairie Lakes from 10 to 2 p.m. Saturday.

The DNR is stocking trout in the lakes. Lori Eberhard from George Wyth State Park said these fish are pretty hungry when they get off the truck, so it should make for easy fishing for young kids. And children can win a prize if they catch a fish."

"We're trying to get kids interested in fishing," Eberhard said. "If you don’t have kids, bring the neighbor kids."

My wonderful cat Dusty died unexpectedly on Saturday. In an effort to keep my mind occupied I've been watching true crime shows on Netflix. So many cases seem to be cold until one bit of information pops up and ties everything together. Maybe someone comes forward and admits to giving someone a false alibi. Or a forensics test provides useful info. I hope something like that happens in this case. I would hate to see Lyric and Elizabeth on a show about unsolved murders

I am sorry for your loss of Dusty, Marilyn. The loss of a beloved pet hurts so bad, especially if you do not have any notice. I cannot imagine a world without pets; they are the only living creature that truly understands us! :)

The Rainbow Bridge (inspired by a Norse legend)

By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill,
Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still.
Where the friends of man and woman do run,
When their time on earth is over and done.

For here, between this world and the next,
Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest.
On this golden land, they wait and they play,
Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.

No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness,
For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.
Their limbs are restored, their health renewed,
Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.

They romp through the grass, without even a care,
Until one day they start, and sniff at the air.
All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back,
Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.

For just at that instant, their eyes have met;
Together again, both person and pet.
So they run to each other, these friends from long past,
The time of their parting is over at last.

The sadness they felt while they were apart,
Has turned into joy once more in each heart.
They embrace with a love that will last forever,
And then, side-by-side, they cross over… together.

So sorry for your loss! We've had a cat now for almost 4 years after about 16 with no pets. The other night I told my husband "just so you know, we will always have cats." Our last one freaked out (similar to the story in the news recently), hence the dry spell. Our kitty now is constantly at my side, on my lap, nuzzled against my leg. Pets give plenty of unconditional love. I don't want to be without one again.
