OK...going way out on a limb here, but MAYBE she's concerned that the phone won't work in case someone did try to call her? If she truly believes these girls were abducted, and could potentially receive a call on their whereabouts (maybe even from Lyric) - and the phone's screen was not working to the point of not being able to answer a call- maybe that is why she's upset?

I hope so.

This is a great article on how kids who are drowning can't yell out or wave. It's an article called "Drowning doesn't look like drowning". If you have kids, you should TOTALLY read it:

http://mariovittone.com/2010/05/154/

With respect, no one saw or heard ANYTHING in the lake.

Very small children do sink without a struggle. Older children who can swim, do not.

As I said, it is statistically unbelievable that TWO children, one of whom was the size of an adult, sink silently, AT EXACTLY THE SAME TIME, with no struggle, splashing, noise. At least ONE would have struggled, and probably survived.

This is GOOD news! It means that they may well still be alive, and still be recoverable.

I think the problem with DM and MCM could be that they do have something to hide, but that "something" is not that they disappeared or harmed the girls.

They're admittedly addicted to drugs and both have long rap sheets. I would say it's probably likely there are some things they want to keep hidden. So they may be lying about some things, but that doesn't mean they killed the girls.

That absolutely makes sense, but there's something to be said for LE's instinct. Like I said, I've been in that situation, and they questioned me and then moved on because it was apparent that I hadn't done anything wrong.

I think it's pretty rare that they focus this much attention on someone with nothing to hide. I'm sure it happens, but not very often, if I had to guess.

I'd have to disagree with only ONE point above. I don't believe LE in Evansdale can even remotely go with "instinct" given a case like this. I also believe it's safe to say they have very limited (if ANY) experience in child abduction cases. If they try to act like this is all just normal for "these types of cases" they would be fibbing...this is NOT something small town Iowa police deal with on a regular basis. They are going on statistics, if anything, that the parents are more than likely involved. :( MOO

**Edited - I'm referring to Evansdale police - not the FBI.

I worked for child protective services before I had kids. It was pretty common that we'd make a case plan with one parent instead of taking the kids on the condition that they stayed away from their abusive/addicted spouse. Then we'd have to go out and take the kids because, sure enough, mom and dad would get back together.

I wonder if this is one of those situations where, in fact, Misty and Dan are together, but keeping it a secret because of the restraining order and possible child custody/guardianship issues.

Again, TOTALLY my own opinion.

The parents were separated according to Tammy, and Misty had been contemplating a divorce prior to L's and E's disappearance. It appeared to me that Misty and Dan had been appearing in the media together for the mutual goal of finding the girls.

It has been stated that Misty was not with Dan that morning. Attorney or not, IMO, Misty-at this time, needs to "separate" from Dan. I believe she should get her own attorney.

What you are saying makes a lot of sense to me and if you watch one of the videos of the interview by the lake with Misty and Dan one of them sort of catches themselves when starting to say "family reconciliation" or something along that lines. It is my opinion that you are bang on in your analysis.

Wait. Is Lyric's mom seriously griping about her touch screen not working after the police took it?

For real?

These people have said way, way too much to the media. Like, I think they honestly believed that if they stayed quiet, people would suspect them, so they started running off at the mouth to HLN thinking it would make them, on the surface, look like they were cooperating.

Respectfully...See my posting above, please!

If you want the police to help you and work with you to find your children, you answer ANY and ALL questions asked. You take however many poly's they want you to. Whatever it takes to get your child back!

Why would you want to hinder an investigation? This is your child you are talking about. Answer questions about your friends...all of them. Answer questions about your drug use....all of them. Answer questions about your family...any and all of them too.

I would put it all out there so the LE can sort it all out. I don't care if I end up in a bit of trouble for something unrelated to my kid's disappearance. I'm one who believes if you play, you pay. I don't care who gets "in trouble" for whatever information comes out. I don't cover for anyone. Especially if a child is missing.

Of course, they would first have to wait until I could actually speak because I'm afraid I would be so looped on Xanax so that I didn't "feel" the loss of my child that I don't think I'd make any sense.

IMO, JMO, MOO

What if you know you had nothing to do with it and have no idea where they are, but you've taken a test that suggests otherwise? Do you sit there and "cooperate" while you know LE is barking up the wrong tree and wasting precious time?

Because if you know for a fact that you had NOTHING to do with your child's disappearance, repeatedly questioning you over and over about the same thing and repeated polygraphs are wasting very precious time.
I'd be livid after being questioned over and over and given my honest answers but they continued the same line of question instead of helping me find my child. There comes a point where it's enough. I don't give a damn if you think I killed my kid. I know I didn't, so lets effin find them.

ITA. Getting peed off is much less hinky than holing up and saying/doing NOTHING. In fact I would think an innocent person would act just as DM has.

IMHO, he seems pretty up front and I find that a refreshing change after the Bradley/irwins and the Celises.

Transcript from JVM:

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Where is 10-year-old Lyric Cook and 8-year-old Elizabeth Collins? We`re trying to help find them with the family of really both girls because they`re cousins. But Lyric Cook`s mom is with us as well as her sister, the aunt of both the girls, Tammy Russo.

Tammy, I want to get back to you. Do you have any thoughts with anybody in the area -- and I`ll ask this of Misty as well -- acting strangely? Was there -- have you seen any strange people, people driving around in vans, any sense that this is -- any foreshadowing whatsoever?

TAMMY RUSSO, AUNT OF MISSING GIRLS: Absolutely not. There was nothing that seemed terribly out of the ordinary. There was a little boy fishing, and he had been there a long time. I asked him as well, when I first approached and started asking random people. I said, "Did you see two little girls on a bicycle? He said "No". I said, "How long have you been here?" He said, "A long time."

So when I told you a man said that he had seen them going east on the bike trial, whether that was true or not, yes, they have his name, they know who he is. But it appears what he said was true because like I said the lake wraps around and the bikes were found on the south side. And that`s where the girls --

Just pointing out that there was a boy fishing at the lake but certainly no definition of what "long time" would mean to the little boy.

Presser coming up in 8 minutes. Will someone please post the link? Tia!

I've read pretty much all 4 threads but haven't really found the answers to these questions.

I'm curious if Lyric was born to Misty while she was in Federal Prision. Did GM have Lyric while Misty was in FP or was she with Daniel? Is Daniel Lyric's biological father? Also, Daniel's upcoming trial ... is he suppose to testify against anyone?

TIA

The grandmother said Lyric tried to run away a few days before their disappearance because her father was angry that she didn't do her chores. I don't understand that because I also thought she was not with her dad because of his drug activity???

OK I'm not finished reading all the thread yet. I thought that the grandmother had legal custody of Lyric and her brother. I also remember reading that the dad was at home with his 16 year old son a the time Lyric went missing. Has this been verified yet? Also, is the 16 year old son Lyric's brother that the grandmother has legal custody of or is this another son of his? I guess there is no restraining order that is keeping his kids away from him regardless of the heavy drug charges against him. JMO

My bet is that the presser will be late today ..... just thinking out loud.
