Level B is the precise nomenclature. These roads really don't get any maintenance at all. No snow removal, no grading, definitely no gravel, if a bridge goes out it's usually not replaced. About the only thing the county will do is remove a tree if it falls across the road.
And because they typically have no traffic, they're actually great for jogging, biking, walking the dog, etc.
i was going to add this in my earlier post about runners' habits: if mollie felt safe in that area it's entirely possible that all of her running routes were along these little roads where there's no traffic and less people to have to run in front of. if she's running in tights and a sports bra she maybe would prefer to be out in the country where only a few farmers are checking her out from their porches rather than running through town.
when i ran highschool cross country and track in a town of 3500, surrounded by farmland, all of our team workouts were around the edge of town on roads exactly like that drone footage. if mollie also ran in highschool there's no reason she isn't still doing some of her old runs in the same places since she'd know exactly how far it is from point to point to pace herself and compare with previous times. highschool was only last summer for her.
