Curious why defendant WM left this prestigious school for the public HS?

Maharishi School (US) - Wikipedia

Seems the defense answered the question today (also believe his mom was employed by the private school):

Cook said Goodale's mother left the family when he was 12, that he had to switch schools from the private Maharishi School in Fairfield to the public schools and he felt isolated due to the pandemic.

It's time to turn your clocks back. Here's how to make it an easier transition

Sawyer Mast took her class last year.

"Not all of us liked Spanish two or three," Mast said. "It was a hard class. But she was, in reality, probably one of the best teachers we had because she held you to her standards, and that was good for her."

He's one of several students KCCI spoke to who knew Graber and the two students now charged with her murder: Jeremy Goodale, 16, and Willard "Chaiden" Miller, 16.

"Having known Chaiden, having him in my class, he did speak, not in a murderous way, but in a very aggressive way for dislike toward Ms. Graber," Mast said.

A couple of students told KCCI they heard an argument Tuesday afternoon about trying to get a grade up in Graber's class. Not long after that, police said that same student went to Chautauqua Park where Graber was known to go for walks.

According to court documents, Goodale posted details about planning the killing and a possible motive on social media. Police said they found clothing that appeared to have blood at the homes of the teens.

Court documents state Miller admitted to being at the park with Garber was killed and helped to conceal her death.

Assistant Jefferson County Attorney Patrick J. McAvan said Friday that many people are asking if this is a racially motivated crime. “We do not have any evidence at this point that suggests that,” he said.

Authorities have not released a motive.
They mocked her accent...I know, they say it was not racially motivated. But still, that makes me so mad..

"Media interest in this case remains high," Branstad wrote. "The media has been present at all of Miller’s criminal hearings to date. All hearings have had extensive coverage and social media comments."

Miller and Goodale requested to try their cases in juvenile court, but those requests were denied by judge Shawn Showers earlier this month. Goodale's trial is expected to begin Aug. 23. Miller's trial is scheduled to begin Nov. 1.

Judge Shawn Showers ordered the trial for Willard Miller of Fairfield to be moved about 200 miles (322 kilometers) from Fairfield in southeast Iowa to Council Bluffs. The order said Miller, his attorneys and the prosecutors agreed to move the trial away from Fairfield, where the case had received extensively publicity. The trial is set to begin Nov. 1

Goodale is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Nohema Graber. The other teen charged, Willard Miller, has already filed similar motions successfully. His trial will be held in Council Bluffs.

Graber was 66 years old when she was killed in November of last year. Her body was found hidden in Chataqua park, a place she liked to walk.

Investigators say she had extensive head trauma and believed she was beaten with a baseball bat.

FAIRFIELD, Iowa — Neither of the trials for the Fairfield teens accused of killing their high school Spanish teacher will be held in Jefferson County.

Court documents show Judge Shawn Showers has granted the change of venue request by Jeremy Goodale. In his order, filed Monday, the judge agreed “that there is a substantial likelihood a fair and impartial trial cannot be preserved with a jury selected from Jefferson County pursuant to Iowa rules of Criminal Procedure 2.11(10).”

The judge also granted a motion to continue Goodale’s trial, which had been scheduled to begin on August 23. A new location and date for his trial have not yet been set.

FAIRFIELD, Iowa (KWWL) -- Both teens charged with killing a Fairfield High School Spanish teacher will have their trials out of Jefferson County, after a judge granted the change of venue for Jeremy Goodale.

Last week, Goodale's attorneys requested his trial be moved. Willard Miller, the other teen charged, had his trial moved to Pottawattamie County in June.

A new location for Goodale's trial has not yet been set. All of his other hearings will remain in Jefferson County.

Now we have the trial dates/places for each:

A jury trial has been set for 8:45 a.m. on Dec. 5 for Jeremy Goodale. His trial has been moved from Jefferson to Scott County.

Willard Miller, the other teen charged, had his trial moved to Council Bluffs -- Pottawattamie County. His trial date is Nov 1.

From the 8/19/22 link:

Court documents filed Thursday by Willard Miller’s attorney, show he has waived his right to be tried within a year of being arraigned in the murder of 66-year-old Nohema Graber. He has also filed a motion to continue his trial, which had been scheduled to start on November 1 in Pottawattamie County.

The motion says that prosecutors are not resisting the delay and more time is needed to complete depositions, discovery, and address suppression issues.

A trial date has been set for Willard Miller, the 17-year-old charged with murder in the death of an Iowa high school Spanish teacher. A judge on Thursday set the trial date for March 20. The judge had previously set the location of the trial in Council Bluffs.

Miller and Jeremy Everett Goodale, also 17, are charged with first-degree murder, she had been beaten to death with a baseball bat. Goodale’s trial is scheduled for Dec. 5 in Davenport.
