Birna’s body is not believed to have been thrown into the ocean from a boat. Chief Superintendent noted that the body could have been thrown into the ocean at a different location than the one where it was found.

A weapon is being sought in the case, although it’s not clear what kind of weapon that would be, since the cause of death is yet to be determined.

Between 200 and 300 people came together in front of the Icelandic consult in Nuuk, Greenland to pay their respects to Brina Brjánsdóttir. The crime has deeply affected the 56,000 inhabitants of Greenland, the country the two suspects are from especially since Greenland and Iceland are neighbouring nations and often refer to each other as brothers and sisters.

I'm gonna post the link to the Facebook event, I hope it's allowed. I just wanted to share it because there is such love and compassion there.

A vigil in Iceland is planned on Wednesday 25th of January at Laugavegur 31, the last place Birna was seen.

Just quoting myself cause I can't edit. There were 400 people at the vigil in Nuuk. And the bolded was supposed to be Icelandic consulate, not consult.

It was So Beautiful I could no stop crying!!
My family is so broken hearted, today is a day we wish we could all be together to remember the beautiful days we spent with Birna. She will always be in our hearts!

Police has also confirmed that damage to the rental car point to it having been driven on rough trails not intended for small compact cars. The damage to the car caused the Police to suspect the men might have driven the car on rough paths in the lava fields on Reykjanes peninsula.

A fourth man was later arrested after police discovered large amounts of drugs on board the trawler. Police now says the two cases are being investigated as separate cases, although one of the men in custody suspected of Birna's murder is also suspected to be connected to the smuggling operation. According to Police at least 20 kg (44 lbs) of pressed hashish blocks, with a street value of at lest 228 million ISK (2 million USD/1.9 million EUR) was found on board the ship.

The men, who are being held in solitary confinement, have not been questioned over the weekend. They have been made aware of the fact that Birna's blood was found in the car, but not that her body has been found. Their interrogation will continue today, Monday or tomorrow, Tuesday.

The police has yet to confirm the cause of death, nor can the exact time of death be confirmed. However, Police believes she most likely died in the red Kia Rio where her blood was discovered.

No murder weapon has been found. Birna's phone has not been found, the last signal from the phone was picked up by a telecommunications antenna in Hafnarfjörður town, near the harbour where the Polar Nanoq was harboured, at 5:50 AM on Saturday. The phone was turned off shortly thereafter.
Police cannot say with certainty what the men did between the time when Birna disappeared at 5:25 AM on Saturday morning and 6:10 AM when the car can be seen driving up to the trawler Polar Nanoq where it is harboured in Hafnarfjörður harbour. Around 6:00AM the car can be seen in security camera footage at a nearby golf course. The driver is described as behaving suspiciously in the footage. The car then enters a controlled area at the harbour at 6:10 AM. The men can be seen talking to one another on security camera footage from the harbour before one of them boards the ship while the other later leaves the harbour area, and then returns at 11:30 AM. The trawler left harbour in the afternoon.

The men's travels on Saturday morning have yet to be mapped out. Police does not know what one of the two men did between 7:00 AM and 11:30 AM. The car was driven nearly 300 km (186 miles) which have not been explained.

When the man returns to the harbour he enters the area where Birna's shoes were later found. The man spent about 25 minutes in this area which is not covered by security cameras. Police believes the shoes could have been planted to mislead investigators.

Police is still working through data from mobile phones, including the phones of the two men in custody.

The driver of the white car, sought by police since Friday in connection with Birna Brjánsdóttir’s disappearance, was found last night.

The driver had not come forward, but had been tracked down by police. The man was questioned about certain details, for which he provided explanations, deemed to be sufficient.

DV.is, an online newspaper has published the identities of the two men in custody. It is illegal since they haven't been charged with anything but it's been on site for hours. No other media outlet has their identities on their site.

They're also claiming that Birna's ID was found on board but I'm not believing anything until it comes directly from the police since one newspaper here was found out to be posting fabrications on the matter as fact which just made it a lot more difficult for everyone.

Investigations are in place after a girl went missing under similar circumstances in Denmark. The Polar Nanoq was not there but trawlers crews change frequently.

The Icelandic police have looked into a possible link between the murder of Birna Brjánsdóttir and a disappearance in Denmark last year. A 17 year old Danish girl called Emile Meng disappeared from the small town Korsør in Denmark. On the evening of 10 July she went out partying in the neighbouring town Slagelse. She decided to walk home from the train station on her way back, said goodbye to her friends and disappeared. This is similar to Birna’s case, as she went missing from downtown Reykjavik after a concert.

How very sad for this young lady.
The monsters among us.

What a horrible way to end her short life. She was such a pretty girl and, from all descriptions, seems as though she was very sweet. I hope the suspects get the maximum punishment that Iceland allows.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of monsters amongst us. The real problem is these monsters look just like everyone else.
