BK did NOT flee to PA after the murders. He attended class and classmates noted he was more talkative than usual but did appear at times exhausted. They further said that when the crimes were discussed in class, he remained silent.

Right, BK immediately returned to his uni in WA after murders. He stayed there until his dad flew out from PA to WA. Then dad and BK drove together in BK's Elantra cross country to family home in PA arriving there Dec. 17. moo

Interview with MPD Chief Fry.

[…]

Fry said investigators continue to look for the murder weapon, described as a fixed-blade knife, and he said that more than 400 calls came in to the tip line in one hour after news of the arrest broke. Fry also confirmed that a white Hyundai Elantra was found at Kohberger's parents' home, where Kohberger was apprehended.

Fry called it "a little disappointing" that Kohberger was studying criminology in graduate school at Washington State University in Pullman.

"That's not what we want in our profession," Fry told Fox News. "We hold ourselves to a higher standard, and we hold ourselves to an ethical standard."

[…]

A part of me has to think he probably stashed that weapon somewhere he had picked long before he committed the crime. So he could go back to it anytime he wanted (as a souvenir).

I'm interested in the reporting stating that he was being tracked as he drove across the country. It could mean a variety of things. And if he was confident enough to take the knife with him on that cross country trip, and assuming he dumped it (i doubt he did), could the way LE tracked him account for places where he stopped?

True story: I did something similar with my parents, and we had a heckagood time. We did it in December. We did it through snowy mountain states. It was actually really fun, and it remains a happy memory for me.

I can't speculate on reasons BCK may have had for the trip because IDK and respect to WS, nor do I know his relationship with his father, but IMO JMO being a homicidal maniac isn't necessarily the only reason someone would do this. The reason I would give my parents, "come on, it'll be fun!". And because we all shared that genetic disposition, they'd have said, "you're right! Let's do it!"

It's only in retrospect that BCK's trip raises red flags for me. AND IMO JMO, the opportunity to hang with your parents and have an adventure should not be done only after a quadruple homicide. I'd say take the opportunity when you have it, and don't murder anyone first. JMO IMO IME

editing to add: IMO JMO this may be a likely defense explanation, too IMO
MOO-

First… I may have missed the rest of the post on BK’s dad flying out to drive home with him… I had not heard of this and yes if true very very interesting.

Personally my opinion only.

Is it possible BK’s dad had been watching the news and knew about murders and police looking for white Elantra?

Is it possible dad put 2 and 2 together with sons close distance to crime scene and the car LE is looking for being the same as his sons… who just so happens to be incredibly interested in crime and murder.

Maybe he offered to come out and spend 3 days in car with son driving home to decide for himself if his child was capable of this. Or Acting different. Parental intuition perhaps?

I personally choose to think his parents are victims in this and as shocked and hurt as everyone else. And I pray that they weren’t in any way privy to anything he did before arrest. I’d be shocked if they were.

I've been looking and can find nothing about her employment. However, I know there was at least one article about it and IIRC, it was a coffee shop.

It certainly wasn't the Mad Greek because the Mad Greek put up a memorial message about the two employees they lost (Xana and Maddie).

I'm not sure Kaylee was still working in Moscow in this, her last semester. No mention of that - the article I'm remembering mentioned her pre-Fall 2022 work. Still looking.
She worked at Dutch Bros coffee years ago. Could that be what you were thinking of?

But would you expose older parent to the dangers?
I'm sure his parents are younger than I am! (My kids are all older than him and I got married old)
My husband would do it! As a matter of fact, hubby always wants to go on road trips.

We drove through a Colorado ice storm a few years ago. Then we went to Rocky Mountain National Park on New Year's Eve, cuz that's what the kids wanted to do! Yes, we hiked with a one year old grandson. I think we got about 1/2 mile. I was making Donner Party jokes the whole time.

Such hubris, such an unfathomably high opinion of his own abilities. IMO. (He studied under a famed serial killer expert which is what makes me think that he thought he knew enough to get away with it all.) I hope this makes sense

We've read that Dr. Ramsland is a highly regarded expert in criminal psychology, and among her books are To Catch a Killer and The Mind of a Murderer.

I wonder if from that distance in Pennsylvania, she had any private clue that perhaps her former student, now at the UofW, could possibly have done it. I know she refused to comment, but maybe she'd observed that he had some of the markings of a killer and she knew he was living near the scene of the crime.

Maybe she guessed it and tipped LE, or maybe she entirely forgot this student's existence because there are always new students.

Perhaps if BK had instead committed murder while at Desales, she'd have suspected him right away.

Or, maybe, sometimes all the expertise in the world evaporates when it may be someone with whom you've often been in the same room. (Similar to Ann Rule and Ted Bundy).

I'm so curious as to what she's thinking now, but obviously she has the right to stay silent.

Maybe he needed his car for the break? They thought it would be a good adventure? Dad is protective or anxious about his kid driving that far alone?

My daughter was in school a 17 hour drive away and it was nerve wracking drive for parents at home. If she was going to be home for more than a week or two, she’d want her car. Shorter breaks were absolutely better to fly for.
The parents might have had one motive for dad driving home with BK (concern about driving alone across country, etc.) while BK might have liked not being alone in the drive across country with the Elantra on LE radar.

Don’t forget that the trip from Pullman to eastern PA almost certainly involved travel over toll roads, which involve photos of license plates, etc. That would make it a bit easier to track the car across the country.

This may have been mentioned before but threads are scrolling quickly. Right now there has been nothing stated as to BK's relation to any of the victims (friend, acquaintance, attended a party, etc.). There had to be some connection if he was able to get into the house without actually breaking in....unless they left the sliding door unlocked, but then he would have to know they left the door(s) frequently unlocked. Will be interesting to hear the entire story once it finally comes out.

EDIT: Just saw that one of the victim's family members said she had a connection to BK.
That could simply mean a loose social media contact, not necessarily known. I have a few thousand that I know nothing about but would take me too much time to delete them all one by one.. It happens..

I wonder where the car was during that time? Parked in front of his apartment? Or dropped off out East of Moscow in a barn or some other off the grid area?
One of the best places to hid a car in plain site is at an airport in one of the big off terminal parking lots. Could BCK have parked it there for a few days then when his dad flew in, he just Ubered there grabbed the car, short drive to pick up his Pop at baggage claim and off to PA they went..

I can't wait to find out how and where he used his phone. Surely he had one? And surely he took it across country with him. Did he keep turning it off? Did he delete all mapping apps and anything related to Google/Chrome? I wonder if there are search results on his computer and what his computer security settings were? Did he delete all history every single day? Every hour?

I wonder the same thing. He certainly isn't having lots of friendly conversations with the lawyer assigned by PA to represent him in the extradition (apparently he has waived those proceedings).

So he sits there in a cell, for the first time in his life. He may desperately crave information and want to sit in an interrogation room on the view that he can tell, from the questions they're asking, what they know about him.
Maybe he’s thinking about how he plans to represent himself knowing he will be ‘center stage’
Just my opinion

I've no doubt LE obtained his DNA before the December 14-17th car ride to PA.

historic blizzard that engulfed the NW, Midwest, Southeast and Atlantic coast

he didn't do it during that time. he traveled 12.14-12.17 and the storm began 12.21-12.26:

and IMO JMO I'm responding to these things not to argue and support the BCK* but to think about ways he will counter these things. IMO JMO an important exercise.

*sounds like hairball if you say it a certain way

I could be reading this wrong but -- I think under Pennsylvania law, a state (Idaho, for example) can only successfully extradite someone if that state (Idaho) either (1) alleges/proves that the person was in that state (Idaho) when the crime was committed; or (2) alleges that the person was in Pennsylvania or another third state and did something intentional to cause the crime in Idaho. Here, it seems Idaho is going with the first option, and maybe the public defender is conceding that BK was in Idaho at the time of the offense??? JMO.

Yes, I think you are right.

Agree for the most part
IMO No. I think he still believes he can get away with this. He may want to experience the full effects of the trial and how it affects others as well, especially the families. He may see himself as outside of the whole thing, like an interested party just observing, critiquing and making mental notes for his "studies." I believe he is always planning and scheming and lives in a complete fantasyland.

I wonder why his father would fly out to drive cross country with him? Why NOT pay to fly out your son for a Christmas break, wouldn't that be cheaper, faster, and safer? Avoid winter storms?

Best question of the day, IMO. What a weird thing to do. Roundtrip airfare looks to be as low as $100. Certainly can find tickets from Pullman to PA for $125RT.

Compared to gas for the Elantra, it's a no brainer. I wonder if he took stuff home with him, as if he were moving back? He might have enrolled for Spring in order to keep up his appearance of normalcy back in Pullman.

That may be why he asked if anyone else was arrested (my theory; MOO).

JMO.

It's not that a cross-country road-trip is weird. It's driving your car home from WA to PA but you'll be back in WA for your next semester of school in a few weeks. Don't you need your car back at school? So his plan was to drive his car BACK to WA alone for a second cross-country road trip a few weeks later?

Belvedere Ill to Chicago (I-90) is all toll. (About 100 miles)
Then likely take the Tristate to get to Indiana. Then 1-80/I-90 thru Indiana is toll. I-80 in Ohio is the Ohio Turnpike. I know PA has a turnpike.

Maybe he hoped to trade cars in PA? I should check PA craigs list.

Agreed. I find it rather intriguing that his father flew out to drive back with him. He's 28 years old.
