Ah that’s right, arson. I don’t know where I got head injuries, but I’m sure that wouldn’t help! But outdated or not, it’s logical to me that anyone capable of torturing and killing animals is a danger to humans as well.

Head injuries are present in a high rate of killers, so just confusing statistics maybe ahaha

No, but apparently the DNA analysis was put it in as a "rushed" request, so the results from that could be back in as little as 3 weeks.

Just watched a newer episode of Dateline....of course a murder case. The son was suspected, but cleared a week later due to surveillance footage and another person's DNA found (according to the actual detective on the show). I hope they have at least identified the presence of a 5th person's (the perp) blood at the scene.

I have 20 somethings, and my daughter would often share a bed with female friends in a sleepover situation (in her college days). Remember that K's parents said M had been her friend since they were little girls, and that she was like a sister, going on their family vacations, etc. K also comes from a family with several girls. I bet she was used to sharing bedrooms and maybe beds.

We did too, as kids there may be three of us cousins in the same queen sized bed three across and my brother at the feet
In college we would double up in a twin with a sister, cousin, or close friend.
My daughter would crawl in with her brother today, she is almost 19, he is 20 so they are very close

One of the many confusing things about this case is the presence/role of K’s dog during the murders.

I don’t know ANYTHING about that specific breed but IME small dogs are very yappy. It seems curious that the perp didn’t kill the dog in order to keep the noise down.

My only theory is that the perp had already done something with the dog (locked it in somewhere outside of the property or tied it up somehow) and that is 1) how K’s sister knows they let it out to pee and 2) why there were multiple calls to J’s phone (“I can’t find our dog J, what shall I do?”)

I’ve read that some of them were attacked while they were in bed (probably sleeping already) , we can only surmise that KG went to bed knowing her dog is home and safe. I have a dog myself, I don’t think I will get any sleep at all if she’s dead or missing. This is only my opinion and I’m not accusing anyone of being the poi- but if the killer is someone that is known to them, and he/she waited for everyone to sleep before the planned attacked, he/she would want them to go to bed as soon as possible therefore killing the dog or taking the dog wouldn’t be a good idea as for sure KG and MM wouldn’t sleep as quickly as the killer would hope.

The dog is also very small from what I saw in the IG profile pic of her ex. Doodle bark isn’t as loud as the bark of a Labrador or a husky. He has a picture of himself with the dog, which I presume it’s the dog they bought together and the dog she had texted him about before her death.

I think it is an easy fix, E and X were in the bedroom marked vacant.
If one of the two from the basement “saw a roommate” and thought they were passed out, they did not see E if it was a ‘roommate’. So it was X they saw, or K or M on the stairs?
The coroner said some died in the bed- I’m thinking that was K and M
X is to have defense wounds- maybe she was in the RR and returned to find the killer on E?
If that is blood seeping, it could be E’s

Isn't it widely known that killing animals is often a precursor to murdering humans? To me that makes alot of

I'm new to posting here, so while I've tried to keep up with everything, I apologize in advance if I go over previously-covered material. So here goes: in my twenties I graduated from a rural university, hundreds of miles from any large metropolitan area. I'm thinking the cultural dynamic was the same there as it is in Moscow--an island of happy-go-lucky students with bright futures amid a sea of economically-depressed agricultural workers, some of whom have serious resentment toward the students. So I'm thinking the killer is one of these locals who uses a hunting knife in his daily activities. He's pretty clearly a single male, perhaps who only comes to town on Saturday nights in Moscow to seek female companionship. Since it's been reported that on the night of the murders K and M were at a bar from 11 until 1:30am, I can easily imagine him sitting a corner of the bar drinking by himself while observing K and M as they have a great time with all their friends. Maybe the killer had seen K and M on the other Saturday nights at the same or other bars in Moscow. And I can easily imagine him having approached one or both of them at some point with romantic intentions and having those intentions spurned. So on the night of the murders, the killer follows K and M out as they exit the bar and watches them from his own vehicle as they wait for their ride. Once they've been picked up, the killer follows at a safe distance until K and M are dropped off, at which point he waits in his vehicle. He sees K and M enter the house. The downstairs roommates are already asleep, so their bedrooms are already darkened. It's not clear which of the murder victims arrived home first, X (and the visiting E), or K and M, but regardless the killer has targeted either K or M or both. So the killer waits for literally hours in his vehicle until lights are out, and he can reasonably assume that everyone inside the house is asleep. It's clear that he would have had to enter through the sliding glass door, and I'm thinking at this point he knew K and M were on the third floor, so he goes there first and murders K and M in their sleep. On his way out, perhaps he encounters E and X who have heard something suspicious. He murders them with greater difficulty, but completes the job nonetheless. So I think it's E's body who the surviving roommates have seen "unconscious" before making the 911 call the next day (it's not clear from reports if all or only some of the victims were murdered in their bedrooms). Regardless, the killer has escaped before dawn, and I think he would have taken the murder weapon with him since it's his prized hunting knife. These sorts of "motiveless" crimes are always the hardest to solve, since there are no traditional suspects. IMO it will take exhaustive DNA tracing to find the killer.

I think you said it well, and this is exactly what I think happened. I am sure this person will be caught by his bar tab, if he used a credit card. My second thought, is it is a fellow employee at the restaurant or one of his/her friends that had a thing for M.

Precursor meaning that the killer when he was 13 was skinning dogs and then upgraded to peeping tom or intrusion at age 18 before trying out murder.

You don't skin a dog and upgrade to murder in a few weeks.

Serial killers know right from wrong. They're not insane. They're unstable. Two different things. But by knowing right from wrong they know there is risk and many serial killers don't become serial killers because the risk is too high. They fantasize. They think about it. This is why people refer to the "escalation" of violence. You try one low form of violence and get away with it a lot, you get brave. You escalate to a new form.

The Golden State Killer is a textbook example of someone who escalated slowly, sticking to trespassing, then peeping, then B&E and home invasion, then sexual assaults, then sexual assault with murder, then attacking couples and sometimes homes that had children present.

Arguably, if he didn't kill for many years in his old age, he was socialized out of it or he realized the risk was too great. So those things won out over the urge to terrorize people for whatever the hell reasons he had for it.

When he was initially accused of home invasion re: that first girlfriend, the father who was home talked him down by pointing out how it would harm his future desire to become a cop. The self-preservation kicked in and GSK left.

So these people who do this have a lot of self-preservation but also a thrill-seeking demeanor and outsized confidence. They'll test boundaries and cross lines until they feel they need to protect themselves.

We don't know if the recent dog killing was first animal skinning, maybe the person has been doing it for years but kept the carcasses somewhere private or buried. I think the woman or another neighbor said her cat was missing too IIRC.
What nags me, if it wasn't killers first animal killing why did he leave it to be found/exposed on purpose? To get the attention?

I feel like this is killer loves the notoriety and maybe chose these particular human victims because he knew it would get lots of media coverage (sadly the typical white, young, pretty female gets more coverage). He could've left dog to be found on purpose to toy with the media/LE, then escalated to 'perfect victims'. I think he was in tactical gear and well prepared if not a crime of opportunity from K's dog maybe being targeted.

No, it is not. Buddy was the dog of an elderly couple on the other side of town which was killed in a horrible way about a month before. There are many links to that on this thread including from me.

I’ve read that some of them were attacked while they were in bed (probably sleeping already) , we can only surmise that KG went to bed knowing her dog is home and safe. I have a dog myself, I don’t think I will get any sleep at all if she’s dead or missing. This is only my opinion and I’m not accusing anyone of being the poi- but if the killer is someone that is known to them, and he/she waited for everyone to sleep before the planned attacked, he/she would want them to go to bed as soon as possible therefore killing the dog or taking the dog wouldn’t be a good idea as for sure KG and MM wouldn’t sleep as quickly as the killer would hope.

The dog is also very small from what I saw in the IG profile pic of her ex. Doodle bark isn’t as loud as the bark of a Labrador or a husky. He has a picture of himself with the dog, which I presume it’s the dog they bought together and the dog she had texted him about before her death.

That is an excellent point, where was the dog? Likely she did not have the dog roaming around the house, and it was too cold for it to stay outside, some have said the lease says no pets, so the dog should have been in the room with her.
If K came to visit, and the dog was there that night, she must have brought it back with her?

Given that location on the outskirts of town, near what look like natural or cultivated fields, I highly suspect Buddy and the rabbit were attacked by coyotes.

I live on the outside edge of a metropolitan area, with some similar area nearby and occasionally see individual coyotes in some of the natural walking trail parks here (especially at dusk). And when I take my own dogs out into my own yard at night, I can sometimes hear packs of coyotes whooping and yelping as they hunt at night down below the plateau I live on. The sounds send my two 60-lb dogs running for the door and I’m right there with them!

Around here, they typically kill small dogs, cats, and rabbits. But, when in packs, they will go after larger animals that are alone.

You must have not read the description, these are country people in their 70’s my guess is both of them know what it looks like when a coyote eats a small animal.

Buddy was cut across the throat. Then he was cut around all four feet and his neck. His insides were removed. So when his skin was pulled off Fur remained on his head and all four of his feet. That is how a person field dresses and skins a deer.

Personally I don’t think the dog skinning is related to the murders. A dog is a very different target than a human, let alone 4 humans. To me, the dog skinning seems more juvenile and opportunistic than four college students being murdered in their sleep. There seems to be at least some degree of planning involved with this crime (i.e., sneaking into a house undetected, potentially watching and waiting until the occupants were asleep) which the dog skinning doesn’t have. MOO.

Well Kayla Bourque (a promising Criminology university student at one time) here in Canada went to jail for animal torture and killings. She was deemed high-risk to the public when released for parole - as the courts know it's a matter of time before she escalates. I think she's electronically monitored now and out but not sure. She's a freaky one... I think animal torture and dismemberment is a huge red flag JMO

Interesting, I haven't seen anything about her dog being noisy.

I've only seen it discussed once. It said the neighbor was having some guilt that they didn't go check on things. I can't imagine the number of people with survivor's guilt from this. It's terrible.
