Furthermore, I believe it was Chelsea and/or Nate where it was also mentioned that Klein does 3 free cases a year from "his firm's family foundation" and this was one of them. The $20,000 was the travel piece that he wanted family to get involved and help contribute and/or encourage them to raise money to help out.
Here's MSM additional statements to back that up:

Klein:
So to clear up some of the misnomers, what we do is
we have an interior foundation that my family has inside of our family trust, and we provide free services, free investigatory services to families that need it in cases such as this. Secondary to that, we provide…or we try to engage the family or the family members or the group that’s representing the family to have some skin in the game. So what we do is we set up a fund and say, look, you know you need to pay for our travel! We’ll pay for our time, which we have
a team of 9 – everything from psychologists to interview specialists to ground hunters to dog handlers to…
We bring in Texas Equusearch so…you know, you need to pay for the transportation back and forth. We’ll pay for everything else. So currently right now, and I just want to say this out front, we are well over 660 manhours on this case.

And Klein told the Journal that
his firm’s foundation put up approximately $60,000 for expenses related to the investigation of the boy's disappearance. He also said an additional
$20,000 was
raised through public donations and a relative of the missing toddler.
