It's a slow, careful process to recover the body, Ramirez said, because they don't want to disturb any valuable evidence.

Kingsbury said he expects the body to be completely exhumed sometime tomorrow afternoon.

_______________
It is an interesting read under SUSPECTS MAKE FIRST COURT APPEARANCE. Martinez seemed to have rolled on his buddies early on and his buddies seem to be minimizing their part in the whole plot.

I am glad that they were willing to tell them where they placed her body so she could have a proper burial. Rest In Peace, Selena.

It was a very emotional candle light vigil with more than a hundred people showing up at Lake View Park in Nampa. They came to pay their respects to Selena Thomas.

Loved ones came out to pray, hug and just be together for Selena Thomas after her death. They remembered stories of Selena's past. They also talked about domestic violence and how people need to be more aware of a bad situation.

Leanne Kovick and Selena Thomas had desks next to each other for the three months while they worked together at Idaho Orthotic and Prosthetic. The last two months Thomas worked there, she was seeing Alfredo Martinez. Kovick said he would come by the office often.

"He would call her a lot, text her a lot, and we started kind of noticing some things about him. He was pretty possessive," said Kovick. "A lot of us here were concerned about how possessive he was in the very beginning."

She said co-workers warned her for weeks about red flags they saw in the relationship. When she didn't come to work Monday and hadn't posted on social media, they all feared the worst.

Selena's coworker reveals insight into Thomas' two month relationship with Martinez.

"She said co-workers warned her for weeks about red flags they saw in the relationship. When she didn't come to work Monday and hadn't posted on social media, they all feared the worst."
I found this also:

"He would stalk her at work," Kovick said. He'd text her after work and ask who was with her, and he would describe them as if he were sitting right there.

"We knew he was watching, we just didn't know where," Kovick said.

Thomas' co-workers last saw her just after noon on Friday. That day, Thomas had the diamond engagement ring on her finger, but she also was complaining about a knee injury. She said she had hurt it wrestling around with Martinez.

I wanted to thank you in writing, OkieGranny, for being so on top of this case. LE really seems to be wanting to cross all their t's and dot all their i's before information is released. The family will get justice if LE keeps going forward in this manner.

An open records request from the Nampa Police Department reveals a string of prior charges against Martinez, including hitting and abusing others. One of his previous victims is the daughter of former Nampa Police Chief Curtis Homer.

We got several police reports detailing Martinez's criminal past.

One from 2005 says Martinez's wife reported that he elbowed her in the mouth and wouldn't let her leave the home.

Another from 2006 says Martinez's girlfriend reported that he shoved her into a fan, punched her in the face, pushed her out the door, and choked her with both hands. That report led to an attempted strangulation charge.

Another report from about a month later says Martinez physically abused a woman and her child.

I don't understand how judges allow people back out so quickly and without years of mandatory counseling if they have more than one incidence of DV, or assault on their records.

A long history of domestic violence is leading to questions about why a murder suspect was not behind bars...

Leroy says because the latest domestic violence charge was eight years ago, officials could not have predicted Martinez would be capable of murder.

And, he adds, in 2009 Idaho strengthened the laws when it comes to domestic abuse charges. He says had Martinez's charges happened after those legislative changes, his sentencing would have been different. "Under our current statues, with this man's history he would have been convicted of a felony on his third minor offense and been treated even more harshly on subsequent episodes," said Leroy.

Former Nampa Police Chief Curtis Homer whose daughter was a domestic abuse victim of Alfredo Martinez believes that Idahoans should have a quick and easy way to determine whether a person in their community has a violent criminal past. He would like to see something similar to the state's sex offender registry - which allows the public online access to a sex offender's criminal background and home addresses - created for those convicted of other violent crimes. Idaho's sex offender registry was launched in 1993.

"If they're a violent felon and running around out there, why shouldn't we know if they're living in the neighborhood?" Homer said.

At Friday’s arraignment, Canyon County Magistrate A. Lynne Krogh appointed a public defender for Martinez. She questioned him about his finances. He said he hasn’t worked for about a month, but when he does work earns around $15 an hour.

When the magistrate asked Martinez if he had any valuable personal property, he thought for a moment, then replied, “I have some pretty nice shoes at home.”

Martinez remains in the Canyon County jail on $5 million bond. His next scheduled court appearance is a preliminary hearing Sept. 12.

This article turns my stomach. Killing a woman, taking her engagement ring, going to a strip club the same day with his buddies, then selling the engagement ring at a jewelry store and buying $4100 worth of watches leaves me cold. All individuals involved in any part of this murder should be made to pay to the fullest extent possible.

Hopefully Selena and her family will get justice soon and Idaho will finally tighten its domestic violence laws to protect future vulnerable individuals.
