Correct, usually. Usually, when it's a hung jury, they will send a note to the Judge that they can't come to an unanimous decision.

In my experience, a jury doesn’t decide on its own, and this quickly, that it can’t decide. Typically, it’d send a message to the judge, and the judge would offer help in explaining things, and coax them to spend more time deliberating, etc.
