It didn't occur to me until just now, but would putting missing posters in the area laundromats be a better way to reach people who might know who he is?

I think it is a good idea, considering he was found in a laundry bag.

Illinois case

DuPage County Sheriff's Commander Mark Edwalds is still waiting for answers in an Illinois case that has stretched nearly five years.

A man walking his dog on Oct. 8, 2005, found a blue canvas laundry bag containing the remains of a little boy. The body was too decomposed to determine how he died.

Investigators believe the dark-haired boy is between 3 and 5 years old. They filed his DNA with a national database and had forensic artists do sketches and clay renderings to circulate to the public. Hundreds of tips poured in.

They traced the boy's dark blue button-down shirt and pants to Wal-Mart, which sold that Faded Glory brand exclusively. Edwalds said investigators found three instances in the country where the shirt and pants were purchased together. The two credit card purchases were ruled out. The one in the Chicago area, though, was made with cash.

Detectives saturated the area around that Wal-Mart with the boy's images in hopes someone would recognize him.

The case remains unsolved, though tips still come in occasionally. Edwalds remains hopeful.

"Somewhere along the line, somebody's going to get a conscience."

Rubyred your post proves just how hard these detectives are working to identify this child. That to me is amazing that they can trace the purchase of his clothes. Amazing. Bless them.

Still no name, but now a face

The little boy’s name, short life and tragic death remain a mystery to the authorities who’ve endured sleepless nights trying to identify him.

But with the help of forensic sketch artists, authorities now have an image of the toddler.

DuPage County Sheriff John Zaruba released the sketch to the public Friday with the hope someone who recognizes him will come forward.
.........
A Bolingbrook man walking his dog discovered the child’s body about 3 p.m. Oct. 8 near Route 59 and I- 88 in a wooded area in Naperville Township. The boy had been placed in a blue canvas laundry bag.
.........

So far, all that authorities do know is that the child most likely was 3 to 4 years old, weighed 25 to 30 pounds and was about 38.5 inches tall. The anthropologist who studied the boy’s bones ruled out African-American as his race.

Police suspect foul play, but they haven’t dismissed the possibility the child died of natural or accidental causes. They also aren’t certain if he is a local boy or if his remains were simply dumped in DuPage County.

“For now, we are his family, and this family is searching for answers,” Zaruba said. “This drawing will remain on my wall until we have these answers, but the memory of the night we found him will never leave our hearts.”

Anyone with information is urged to call the sheriff’s tip line at (630) 669-7109.

Just my personal opinion but when I looked at this picture there is a likeness to one of my sons.

I think that possibly this child is caucasian of hispanic descent. Just my heart talking to me, I could very well be wrong. JMHO.

It breaks my heart that people just toss away children.

"You think, 'How in the world could a child go missing without someone knowing it?' " said Scott Davis of the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office in Tennessee, who has volunteered for the past decade on missing children's cases and hosts an online web series called The Missing.

He started The Missing program on YouTube last year to feature unsolved cases in hopes of reaching people who might know something and hadn't heard about them through traditional news media.

There is extensive information on the steps which have been taken to ID DuPage Johnny. If you read back you will see it has been determined this little guy is of native aboriginal mix and they have narrowed an area where his mother likely carried him in utero through the isotopes in his baby teeth. It is very fascinating.

he has a fantastic FB page a bit back too.. Sadly less than 50 members but the gal who started it did an incredible job.

Here is the link to DuPage Johnny's FB page, sadly only 36 members.

I wish we had more if anyone would like to add him. I think I will add him to Wylies FB too since he was mentioned in Wylie media.

There is also a thread in the cold case forum regarding the unidentified girl found in Missouri mentioned in that same media article... that is one of the hardest cases I have ever read about here. She still remains unidentified.

I know there is a fairly recent photo of David Ojeda, so it's not him. And since the doe apparently lived in Illinois his whole life, I'd bet he's not Luis Gonzalez either, or Jose Castro. The Fernandez boys and Lorenzo Ayubo are both known to be out of the country (the Philippines and Brazil respectively) and have been seen recently. Mohammad Ali and Juan Esquivel were both found a while back.

I haven't heard anything either way on the tip I submitted to DuPage. Still waiting.

bbm

In the article it says she was identified.

But an ad published in a weekly newspaper generated a tip from Oklahoma that broke open the case. Three-year-old Erica Michelle Marie Green was identified nearly four years after her body was found. Her mother and stepfather were arrested in her death. Both are now in prison.

Bernard said, "It was a long, hard four years to finally get that call."

Thanks Ruby.

I was thinking of another one mentioned in the article who they believe is about 12, a little black girl. The details are horrific and she is still unidentified.

I will bump her thread in the Cold Case forum if anyone wishes to look for it there.

Okay, sorry about that. I will go to cold case and look at the one you are talking about.

I didn't know he had a Facebook page -- I joined, too, so maybe that will get a little attention.

Thank you Cubby I will read back and also go to his FB page. Yesterday was the first time I had read about this young child. When I saw his picture he made my heart melt because he does very much resemble my Carlito at that age.

bumping for DuPage Johnny Doe.

Still no news on my end if Sylvia Guiboche is a possible match as the mother of this little guy. It's been a few months since I followed up, but thinking about it further if DuPage decided it looked promising enough to check via DNA it may take a long time to get any results back. Especially if DuPage had to obtain DNA from Sylvia's family in Canada.

Just thinking outloud on the delay on knowing if we can rule Sylvia out.

I realized it had been about 4 months since I had sent in this tip so followed up with DuPage. Despite more than a half dozen attempts to submit this tip several months ago the main contact had no recollection of the tip nor was he able to find my email or the email sent by my local City LE which I had forwarded as a result of the difficulties making contact with DuPage County.

I ended up forwarding the email I had sent through my local LE and to the main contact again. Oddly he seemed rather dismissive of the possiblity based on the Sylvia's childs appx age of 27 mo's in Oct 2005 even though Sylvia matches the location (Southern Central Canada or far northern Cental US ) provided by the isotope study as well as the race being native aboriginal indian. He seems to think DuPage Johnny Doe was closer to 4-5 even though his estimated wt is listed at 25-30 lbs. which according to growth charts is the 50th percentile for children between 12 and 33 months.

This main contact, while still in charge of overseeing the detectives working this case was reassigned or given additional duties right at the time I had finally made contact with him on my 7th or 8th try of getting through, so I am hoping the conversation went as it did because he didn't have any of the notes in front of him. He did say he would check with his guys and I will follow up again either THursday or Friday just to make sure someone looked at the possible match.

I did breifly mention dentals, and perhaps despite Johnny Does very small size for a 4-5 year old his number of teeth indicated he was older than the 27 month range. Though that isn't always accurate and teeth can come in at various ages.

I'd like to find out one way or the other and if they deemed this pm not worth pursuing further to rule it out here and move onto other pms as we find them.

Will update again as I get more info.

ETA: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Glad I followed up. He still did not get my email so I am thinking there may be a problem with them receiving yahoo emails. I will send again with a different email address.

Sent via a non yahoo email address and received confirmation back he did receive the info. They will review it next week.

I also asked if he could share with me how they arrived at the possibility this child is 4-5 when his estimated wt falls in the 50th percentile for a 12-33 month old child and his estimated ht is at the 50th percentile for a 36 month old child. It is very possible Johnny Doe was of small stature due to an unknown illness or medical condition since the autopsy results were inconclusive on cause of death. It is also possible his teeth were grown in leading to the conclusion a younger child would not have so many teeth......

They will look at this next week so I will follow up in appx 2 weeks.
