AUTOPSY COMPLETED – An autopsy has been completed on human remains found at a remote site south of Boyleston last month. The body was removed from the site by forensic specialists with the FBI and Illinois State Police and transferred to Bloomington, Ill. where an autopsy was completed late last week. Wayne County Coroner Jimmy Taylor, local Sheriff’s Department officials along with FBI and State Police investigators attended the autopsy. The results of the post-mortem examination have not been made public. Wayne County Coroner Jimmy Taylor confirmed that the remains are now being transferred to an FBI Identification facility in Quantico, Virginia for examination by a forensic anthropologist.

WAYNE COUNTY — An autopsy has been completed on human remains found at a remote site in Wayne County last month and they’ve now been moved to FBI headquarters in Quantico, Virginia.

The body was removed from the site by forensic specialists with the FBI and Illinois State Police and transferred to Bloomington, where an autopsy was completed late last week.

State and local authorities, along with FBI and State Police investigators attended the autopsy.

The results of the post-mortem examination have not been made public, but the remains are now being transferred to an FBI Identification facility in Quantico, Virginia for examination by a forensic anthropologist.
 
Unfortunately in these cases, it's very rare to have a happy ending. If it is Megan, It will be sad for those that held onto hope for 3 years.
 
A local paper (The Disclosure) had a story on the remains yesterday, but it's behind their subscriber paywall. Anyone have any idea what the new story is about?

I think the mother knows what happened to Megan.

I am struck by her giggling at the beginning of the video during her introduction. Maybe it's nervous laughter.

It seems like the whole interview is more about her trials than it is about what happened to Megan.

My husband agrees with you. He thinks the mom lashed out at Megan and accidentally killed her. I still think the boyfriend is involved. I guess time will tell. I do think it's odd that she took the Prayers for Megan page down - and also removed all references to Megan from her FB page. I need to go look at it again and see if she's said anything.
 
I definitely believe the mom knows what happened. Megan went missing in May and her reaction to Megan missing in May was normal. She called the police and contacted the boyfriend via phone. In July she waits 1 hr and 45 minutes before reporting her missing and she doesn't call but drives drives to the police station. There are no reports of the mom contacting the boyfriend the night Megan was missing. If you have no idea where your daughter is and you suspect with the boyfriend, wouldn't you be tracking him down that night? Also, after she reported her missing, she goes back to the house to look for clues and that's when she found the note and phone. The mom had 1 hr and 45 minutes before reporting her missing so why wouldn't she find the phone and note during that time period? Something isn't adding up IMO.
 
When I first heard about this case, I thought Megan had just left her home and her life for some reason. Now, I have to say that it seems like someone (boyfriend or someone else she was seeing) manipulated her to leave and that is why Megan took money with her and swipe her phone, left a note etc. I think Megan thought she would start a new life with this "someone", but ended up getting killed soon after they left. I also think that the note was "weird" and I don't believe Megan wrote that. Just my opinion ofc.

Lovehearts comment was interesting, I didn't know Megan has been missing before. It is weird that mom didn't find the phone and note during that 1hr 45min, was she even in her room looking for clues before going to the police station?

The FBI has confirmed the remains of a body discovered recently were those of teenager Megan Nichols, missing since July of 2014.
Bones were discovered Dec. 26, 2017 in a field south of Boyleston. Those remains were collected by the FBI, who were able to positively identify them as those of Nichols.

Further details are not being released at this time, as the investigation is still ongoing. The FBI and the Wayne County Sheriff's Office continue to ask for the public to submit tips regarding the disappearance of Ms. Nichols.

Not far from Fairfield. Almost makes me feel like she ran away and just couldnt get far enough before she succumbed to the elements? They havent mentioned foul play yet or a COD

I think they will decide on foul play considering the other elements surrounding her going missing. Also, she went missing in July - the elements wouldn't have been an issue.
 
I wonder if her bike was found nearby?
