there is no particular reason to think this is related, but another illinois college had a possible abduction: https://www.facebook.com/iitpublicsafety/posts/1574146862616276

stay safe out there, folks- especially on empty college campuses where there might not be as many people around during the summer months.
Holy cow! The guy in the black astra is tall too. You can tell by how tall he sits in the car.
a white male 6 ft 2 inches - 6 ft 5 inches tall, 220 lbs, forced an asian female in to a silver 2012-2014 four door cadillac ct4, illinois plate y717070

Also Monday, May 8, 2017:

At 11:37 a.m. Saturday, a U. of I. student reported that he had been the victim of deceptive practices. A person purporting to be a landlord directed the student to send two months’ rent totaling $1,100 to lease an apartment in California. The landlord then asked for a third month of rent and was not responsive when the student questioned the request. When contacted by police, the true property owner indicated the house is not for rent.

Unfortunately, this is a common scam and likely not related, IMO. The scammer probably was not even located in California or the US at all, JMO.

I googled the license plate and came upon this:

According to the IIT school record, a white man driving a silver vehicle, local time on June 17 afternoon in the campus 31 street and South Michigan Avenue intersection, an Asian female forced into the car, and then quickly leave the campus The school police said that the current case in the investigation, has not yet determined whether the female is IIT students.

Witnesses described the silver car for the four-year Cadillac CT4 from December 2012 to April 2013, and the license plate was Y717070, Illinois, and left in the east towards the 32nd Street after the Asian female car.

Police said that the woman has not yet confirmed that the students or the public, the case is still under investigation, but the police once again called on all the people, students alert.

As a result of the recent increase in Chinese students in recent years, IIT has more than 600 Chinese students enrolled in 2016, with more than 2,000 Chinese students studying in China.

I don't really follow this theory. I could see the police waiting for evidence before arresting a suspect in a murder case. But a missing person case where the girl is still missing?

You can't arrest someone without evidence that they committed a crime.

If they were able to locate someone with information related to the description of the vehicle and suspect, that information would be considered evidence.

Several people own Astras. It's not enough. They must have evidence of a crime.

If it is the same guy, perhaps he is holding Yingying somewhere around the Chicago area.

But if they have information on the vehicle and suspect, then they have the video footage of that vehicle and suspect. And that would be sufficient.

This man might have attempted the same with another woman, who was able to provide a description of the man and vehicle.

I don't think it will be the same guy, but I do think it could be related to Yingying. A bigger "ring", perhaps.

I think that whomever she contacted for apartment lease may have been bogus, and intercepted her along the way

Chicago incident likely unrelated:

IIT Public Safety IIT ALERT: Illinois Tech has learned that the incident reported Saturday afternoon was a domestic, off-campus incident that did not involve Illinois Tech students, faculty or staff.

Thank you. So Cadillac is cleared, now back to Astra.

Given the fact that we know the apartment manager was the last call to Yingying's phone, and that she didn't answer, I think the apartment was legitimate. All of the info we have implies, to me, that the apartment manager is working with LE and therefore not a scammer.

I also have been a WS member for 12 years now and have never seen someone abducted into sex trafficking. I don't think it's a possibility in this case or any case of an abducted adult. JMO.

Giving someone a ride is not a crime. And the video is not close enough to make a positive ID on the driver. That's why they need more.

So glad Yingying is a Trending Story here at WS (box upper left side), she needs more attention!

I am very confident that the meeting to sign the lease was legitimate and that it was truly a leasing agent who was texting her. The complex she was headed to is large and has its own leasing office with multiple employees working there. This wouldn't be a situation where she answered an ad on craigslist or wherever and was meeting with a private property owner/individual. Google ONE north/south Urbana, IL for more info on the complex.

All IMO of course

Agreed, I also think it very unlikely that this part of some kind of kidnapping "ring." IMO, overwhelmingly likely to be a solo predator.
