SCM, do you remember the thread about the guy that wanted to adopt a child but the judge supposedly told him he was too obese? I thought everyone would agree on that thread, but they didn't. I'm honestly surprised at the way this thread is going!

:blowkiss: to you Taxi. I do remember that thread well! Nope - we were not in agreement then. But this seems to be across the board so far. MMMMMM...what contrary soul will come and shake things up!?

Great idea, Mira. We'll just starve people until they are the weight we think they should be. Brilliant. A platform like that will get you elected in MS quick!

They could just make the grocery store and restaurant doors only so wide.. say like 18". If you can't get through the door, you don't get in.

link please to black women are more obese than white woman

Hi there,

I love witches. I don't have any link and am too lazy to go find one, but I know I have read articles providing data that shows that obesity is more of an issue for black women than white woman, as a group, just as obesity is more an issue for white women than Chinese women, as a group.

OMgosh, that is so funny.

Yes I think that black women are at a physiological disadvantage when it comes to weight loss and it can be harder for them, as a group. Also, they are less likely to seek out weight loss help.

Obesity and Overweight
Obesity is measured with a Body Mass Index—BMI—which shows the relationship of weight to height. Women with a BMI of 25 to 29.9 are considered overweight, while women with a BMI of 30 or more are considered obese.
Among Americans ages 20 and older, 134.8 million are overweight or obese—68.6 million are men and 66.2 million are women. Of these, 63.1 million are obese—27.5 million are men and 35.6 million are women.
Being overweight or obese increases your risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke, breathing problems, arthritis, gallbladder disease, sleep apnea (breathing problems while sleeping), osteoarthritis and some cancers. Fifty percent of adult African American women are obese. African American women were 1.6 times as likely as non-Hispanic white women to be obese.

BRILLIANT! I should put one of those in front of the fridge.

That's not a bad idea, JBean. Perhaps have an opening in the fridge door the size of a yogurt container and it can only be opened 3x/day! lol

FEBRUARY 1--Mississippi legislators this week introduced a bill that would make it illegal for state-licensed restaurants to serve obese patrons. Bill No. 282, a copy of which you'll find below, is the brainchild of three members of the state's House of Representatives, Republicans W. T. Mayhall, Jr. and John Read, and Democrat Bobby Shows.

Government tactics.

coming your way soon? i don't like government interference in people's lives to this extent.

it would certainly cut into MacDonald's profits should the bill pass.

This is the stupidest thing I've ever heard.

I found it interesting to read the scientific study posted in post number 47 on page 1 of this topic (on a different message board) where they are debating sin taxes, specifically a "fat tax". Here is a link to the post in question. As that study shows, it isn't how much fat there is, but the placement of that fat that matters. Someone can weigh hundreds of pounds more than they should, and not be at the same risk of dying as a slender person with a bit of a paunch. The study is more than one page, and good reading IMO.

If sagging pants are banned, will young women still be allowed to show excess cleavage and wear low riding jeans with their thongs exposed? I don't like seeing that any more than I do the sagging pants, but who am I determine they all can't dress like they do?

I guess I'm just wondering where it will end.

My thoughts exactly! It's rediculous!

This is really dumb and definately a waste of tax dollars. How does one come up with something like this? Crazy!:waitasec:

Now I would be for restaurants cutting down on the amount of food served in an order and lowering the prices accordingly. Sometimes a meal is enough for two people. But never refusing to serve people because of their size.

Yes, I hear you - but would you want that to be a law? I don't mind paying for gigantic proportions because I LOVE leftovers. Anything that means I don't have to cook yet another meal!!

The two links above are two programs that I know of personally of Mississippian's getting in shape. "Just lose it Meridian" even caught Oprah's attention and she kicked off her Best Life challenge there a couple of weeks ago. There are commerials constantly encouraging "let's go walking" with Deuce McAllister in them.

And I'd like to add, that I really don't think being poor has anything to do with being overweight/obese. There are plenty of middle and upper class people who fight the battle of the bulge. It's not like the majority of the people of the state live in shacks and don't know any better.

Ah... maybe they'll start leaving us smokers alone now that they have a new group to attack. :D
That was my first thought, too, IM!!

While I think the law itself is absolutely absurd, I remember thinking when they did the smoking bans that it wouldn't be long before food was banned for the obese. Where does it end?! Ridiculous!!

Possible Scenario: what happens if I'm obese maybe..425 lbs. and 5ft.10in. I trudge into the Golden Arches and demand a chocolate milk-shake and a pie asap. The person's a diabetic and his blood-sugar has suddenly dropped dangerously low. He needs to hike it back up or could slip into a coma. That would be a dilemna a McDonalds server should not have to decide.
