I'm not sure it will be enough, but the sooner they can redact and release the PC, the better. That could help build public trust.

It is unlikely to stop the incessant requests by those seeking to profit in some way on social media channels so the state may need to control that.

I'm not understanding the motivation of threats against public officials and their families, which is disturbing. Maybe someone here can set me straight on that.

It seems to me that the county does not have resources or expertise to manage the consequences of intense public interest.

They would do well to look at it from a PR standpoint & hire someone as the public face who is not personally involved behind the scenes to manage & handle communications with the media & public.

The upside is the passion for justice for these girls and their families. But it must be managed and managed well.

Why do they need to gain public trust?

It was explicitly explained they don’t want to release the details as of yet and that will become clear why at a later date.

So I do not understand why the public feel they are owed anything here. It quite literally makes no sense.

This should be about JUSTICE for two teenage girls not the public getting upset because they have been told they can’t see information right now!!

Because public trust in the judicial system is based on its processes being transparent to the public.

ETA: I don't have a link handy but I have seen released documents that were redacted so much that they provided little information. But they were released.

I used to be a journalist. We live in a society that has high regard for the public's right to know on the basis of our Constitution & the first amendment. As many have pointed out here, it is withholding that is unusual, as many jurisdictions routinely release ASAP even in (or especially in) high profile cases.

To me, wanting the earliest possible release of the PC is reasonable. Fear mongering to prevent release is not reasonable.

When officials give an excuse that public release will jeopardize an investigation or impune the rights of the accused, it is generally out of a overly robust sense of caution rather than a legitimate need.

The PC itself should be written in a way that anticipates public release with reasonable redactions to protect info that would endanger someone or hurt the case mortally.

OH ASPIE .... You bring up some great questions! And, helpful people should/could never be considered suspects? Oh brother.( Ya' know I just gave you a little knowing nudge.)

Helpful persons were considered suspects. The family (pair) coloring the benches that day, trying to help the community. And how did it end up for them?
Since the arrest and finding Gray's channel, I have watched as many shows as possible to get up to speed on certain case aspects, he is well informed and presents good, solid information IMO. I don't mind that the shows are long, I can skip through when he goes off topic or just let it play in the background and read other stuff. His personality comes across as one I personally may not like all that much at times, but I actually do like when he blasts trolls and I really appreciate that he donates to the causes.

I think that if he can’t make them more concise (he can, if he cuts out own communication with public), he should make two a day, twice as short. More money and more followers. Humanely impossible to watch something that is 3-hours long, of which 1/2 is good investigative journalism, 1/2 - squabbles with someone online. Grey needs to view own show once and ask, would he watch it if it were not his? How to make it a tad more funny? Then he will understand what to do. He has the potential of becoming the best.

Yeah kind of shocking they are being threatened with legal action? Who and why would someone be doing that right now. Like clearly this is a tense time maybe give them some time to breathe for a bit before going postal lol

they should live in the UK. We get to see nothing!

Yes as we have nothing like this happen here. That’s why this all seems so bonkers to me as I can’t believe the “people” can ask for this stuff to be released when it’s been said they don’t want to Because it protects the case.

Diener’s memo comparing a YouTube show to blood-lust seems a bit dramatic.

And for this part, all they need to do is stop answering the phone. Just add a greeting that directs people to their website and the process to open a FOIA request:
“As far as the public’s desire to learn about access to court records, that educational effort cannot be by thus officer educating each individual, ad-hoc, whenever they choose to seek “public information.” These inquiries are inherently disruptive to the operations of the Court as they are wholly outside the operations of the Court.”

BREAKING: Carroll County Judge Benjamin Diener has recused
himself in the double murder case against Richard Allen. The Indiana Supreme Court is in the process of appointing Allen County Judge Fran Gull, as Special
Judge in the case. Neither Judge Gull nor Judge Diener can speak to press
about the merits of the case.

that order does not bode well. it isn’t well-written and also doesn’t make much sense…now i anticipate he will leave the sealing in place and it will have to be appealed (i assume it can be?)
I think he will be leaving the room. I genuinely think that he is worried for his and his family's safety.

I was just going to ask when is he going to do so!
I don't think I've ever seen a judge write anything like that; it almost sounded like a defense attorney in regards to the language he used.

He was the one who approved the order to seal, so him being gone can't hurt. Especially reading between the lines of that document, which required no reading between the lines.

Looks like she has a good bit of experience

Honorable Frances C. Gull
Criminal Division Administrative Judge
Judge Frances C. Gull has served as a Judge in the Allen Superior Court since January 1, 1997. She was first elected Judge in 1996 and has been re-elected four times.
For more than 20 years, Judge Gull has served as Administrative Judge of Superior Court’s Criminal Division, overseeing the day-to-day operations of six criminal courts, including the misdemeanor and traffic and felony courts.
