I am not admitted in Indiana so I do not know the specific rules but in the states where I practice, defendants can choose their own attorneys and if they qualify as indignant, the private attorney can petition to have the state pay the state-set appointed counsel rate. It is very, very low compared to what private attorneys can bill but it is a way for attorneys to receive some compensation in court appointed cases.

In those cases, you have to be "qualified" for the crime that's alleged. So if it is a death-penalty eligible murder case, you have to meet the state's requirements that often list like how many jury trials you have completed, how many "serious felony" cases you have handled, etc. So for him, since he does not seem to be independently wealthy to afford a $250k trial bill, he may be trying to meet with an interview the lawyers who both 1) meet the qualifications for a murder case and 2) are willing to accept some sort of appointed or blended fee agreement.

Also I will say there are still COVID precautions in jails and prisons that limit attorney visits. I don't know how much space these places have but I know it is much harder (still) to see incarcerated clients. There are also no-visit and no-transport orders when someone has COVID and other inmates may have been exposed. Again, I do not know about Indiana in particular but these are all considerations that may be delaying his counsel choice.

Thank you. (I assume “indigent”, and you were the victim of autocorrect. It happens often when one word is common and the other, seldom used.)

Question to you, and any lawyer here. COVID has changed the rules, indeed. But would Zoom or any other media be acceptable? In terms of privacy, I subscribe to paid Zoom, and another paid system in my work. They guarantee privacy, are expensive, but I think it is better this way. Any jail would be able to afford them for sure. No one can guarantee privacy on behalf of the room where videoconferences are held, of course, because it is on jail premises, but the same holds true for any meetings in jail.

(We have COVID, and no one has canceled regular flus either, and the system has to get moving somehow).

I'm wondering whether bond was set on his arrest and then after the hearing (when he was charged) it was set at 'no bond'. Just guesssing?
I believe you may be correct about that. Tricia had a guest on her YT channel (I believe it was before the murder charges were ever formally announced, but after the arrest) who did mention a 20MIL bond. I don't recall who the guest was, but clearly it was someone who had inside info, before the public had the info - since she knew the bond amount.

When he was initially arrested, there was an error entered into the system about his alleged alias. It took several days before they edited that, and got rid of it.

Then they say he's been moved to an undisclosed location, but yesterday on the Indiana Dept. of Corrections, it took me 2 seconds to locate his inmate info, which included the location he's being held at, DOC inmate number, height, weight, hair & eye color, etc. By the end of the day, they had already removed that info.

I'm not so sure it's someone not being forthcoming as it might be incorrect info entered into the system? Just guessing, since it's already happened twice.
@Ontario Mom
I missed the information about his height. Can you share please? TIA!

I have a question for you. If you had done something very bad and LE arrived with a search warrant, what would you think? What would you do?
Here is one possible action: From Wikipedia: "Arlis Kay Perry (February 22, 1955 – October 12, 1974)[2] was a 19-year-old American newlywed who was murdered inside Stanford Memorial Church, within the grounds of Stanford University in California, on October 12, 1974. The murder went unsolved for more than forty years before police named Stephen Blake Crawford as the perpetrator following DNA profiling in 2018. Crawford, a security guard at Stanford who reportedly discovered the body, died by suicide before he could be arrested."

As I recall the story, police arrived to question Crawford. When they came to his door, he knew immediately, and he shot and killed himself before the police could take him into custody. I'd call that "justice," personally--years of fear that the police were on his trail, then the agonizing decision to kill himself. MHO.

RA has a Nov. 17 deadline to inform court of his choice of attorney.

It was discussed here yesterday but it listed his height at "65". Most would say that's 5'5" but if you google "65 inches to feet" you get 5.41667 :) It also had his weight at 178, eyes: blue, hair: gray.
Maths.
5.41667 feet is the same as 5 feet 5 inches. 0.417 X 12 inches = 5. Everyone misreading what Google is telling you is because Google is saying how many feet, not how many feet and inches. Since we live in a backwards country that isn’t metric, the scale for feet to inches is not 1:10, it is 1:12. So, the conversion between 0.417 feet to inches is 0.417 x 12

simpler, 6 inches is 1/2 foot, or 0.5 feet. Math.

MOO
The presence of a smart, highly professional lawyer, maybe it will straighten them up and make behave more professionally?
Or will this be a repeat of Barry Morphew’s successful defense.
MOO The prosecutor is playing around with fire.

The judge was afraid of the Daily Mail.

The police can’t keep a prisoner safe from other prisoners, or from himself in Carrol County and all the while rock hard
deadlines that trigger mistrials, or dismissal are clicking along.

Proceeding’s are public for a reason. If they lose a conviction over this - Wow.

In reference to his height, it was probably found on his drivers license, not sure about Indiana but in Md they don’t weigh or measure you, you tell them.

Not everyone is honest about those things.

Once your arrested then your height and weight is recorded.

Not sure. She's the Director of their Pro Bono dept.
Attorneys that do pro bono, in my opinion, are typically involved in social causes, such as the below work, listed on that attorney's pro bono activities.
I would agree that occasionally an established attorney may volunteer for a murder trial if they thought an injustice/persecution was afoot. Edit to add, I don't think there is any chance this firm will be assisting RA.

Wrongfully convicted, drivers relicensing programs, redistricting litigation, refugees assistance, name and gender marker change.

I agree with you. I think pictures speak louder than words - the victim needs to have a voice and pictures are the only voice the victims have when they are deceased -the pictures say - 'Look what you have done to me'.
Emmett Till’s family used his horrific image to make sure his murder would never be forgotten. I do not think a verbal description would have carried the same impact, imo.

RA is 50, and would have been 45 at the time of the murders. But you’re correct: that second sketch looks like a young kid of age 22 at the most, and looks nothing like BG.

Was it meant to be “Anthony Shots” and this is why Carter said to the killer, to the effect of, You didn’t think we’d change tactics, did you?

I tried several times yesterday to explain basic math. :) Good luck. :)
