Interesting on the possible jailhouse admissions.

He might have completely given up and had some honest reality take over. Admit it and move on. I don't see him trying to take this to court. His lawyers are just doing their job but hope it doesn't work.

BREAKING: in court today Richard Allen appears to have made incriminating statements connecting him to the murders of Libby German and Abby Williams. Prosecutor said he made an admission. Defense team says these admissions can't be trusted due to Allen's mental state. More coming

Cont: to a different facility for “safety” reasons, and to consider a motion for due process. New documents could be unsealed as well giving the public a first time look into deeper levels of the case and any of Allen’s potential involvement.

How convenient he was a competent, hard working Pharm Tech who was responsible for people's. medication (not to be taken lightly), with a wife and social life that included hiking and barroom pool contests kind of guy UNTIL they arrested him and put him in jail.

Now he's mentally incompetent? Hah, good luck with that. Reality has set in for Mr. RA and he knows what he's done and will have to answer for it in a court of law. Anxiety, stress, conniving, and manipulation have him looking like he does right now in my opinion. Sorry, not sorry.

Can't wait to hear what the confession of guilt might be about.

ALL MOO
This is such an excellent point. Especially about his work. We've heard stories from his former co-workers and nobody ever said a word about any mental health issues. He held down a job for all those years with no signs of mental incompetence. I know the attorneys are doing their job but I hate this stuff.

Does he look awful? Yes. Has he lost weight? Yes. We'd ALL look awful and skinny in jail. That doesn't mean he's gone off the rails. And if he has it's because he is realizing his fate.

The court says it will create a new website to allow public access to some, but not all, of the motions filed in the case. This process could take up to a week to complete, according to Essex.

BBM-best news I have heard about this case!

Or maybe, just maybe he's not guilty and the stress of being falsely accused has caused him severe stress and mental hardships as is being kept in jail in severe isolation and confinement. Also being treated like a "DOG" is not a good look on the Indiana justice system.

The problems I have with both this case and the Idaho 4 is that with the complete lack of any and all information about the case being released EVERYTHING is a guess at this point. We just don't know.

I find it very disturbing that his and his attorneys private meetings are BEING VIDEOTAPED BY THE PRISON!!!!. I also find RA's condition disturbing as well. At this point all we have is rumors. Based on what I've seen and read on this case I need a lot more to convince me of RA's guilt and there are a lot of shady things going on around this case that gives me an uneasy feeling that something is very off with the entire case. We'll see.

I agree with you here. It’s very secretive and it looks shady. If there are more people to arrest, they better get on it.

BREAKING: Richard Allen's trial is set for Jan. 8, 2024 in the murders of Abby Williams and Libby German in Delphi, Indiana in 2017.

During the June 15 hearing, the defense attorney and prosecutor both mentioned incriminating statements that Allen allegedly made while in prison. They have not yet elaborated on those statements, however, the defense attorney said that those statements were very generic and inconsistent with Allen's previous statements of denial.

The judge set Allen's trial date for Jan 8-26, 2024.

Another big development that came out of the hearing is that the motion to dismiss the ballistic evidence will be considered at a later date.

The state’s probable cause affidavit says the Indiana State Police crime lab tested a gun found inside Allen’s home, and test results show that same gun is linked to an unfired bullet that investigators found between the bodies of the two teenage victims.

[.]

Allen’s attorneys have raised questions about the science used to link the gun to the bullet at the crime scene. Thursday, the defense and the prosecutor will be able to present evidence about the reliability of the ballistics testing so the judge can rule whether that evidence will be admissible.

The focus for the hearing then shifted to whether or not Allen should stay in a state maximum security prison. His defense team argued that Allen is being treated much different than other defendants and that treatment is impacting both Allen's mental and physical health as well as his ability to assist in his own defense.

[.]

The judge took the matter under advisement and could make a decision at a later point.

[.]

The judge announced she will be unsealing multiple documents next week. The announcement comes after 13News appealed to both the judge and the Indiana Supreme Court Administration to release the documents that include multiple motions and filings in the case.

[.]

Allen walked into the court under heavy security, escorted by two police officers. At one point, Allen appeared unsteady – prompting one of the officers to move to hold his arm more tightly to provide support. Allen appears noticeably more frail and has lost considerable weight since his first court appearance last fall. His wife removed her glasses and wiped away tears when she saw him walk into court.

[.]

The family of Abby Williams and Libby German were also in the courtroom.

Are jailhouse confessions admissable during a trial?
Generally yes. Statements by a party-opponent are a hearsay exception. So they won't be excluded on those grounds. Often there are credibility issues because the person who heard the admission is a convict and jailhouse snitches have a bad record for honesty. But the defense doesn't seem to be denying he said it in this case. So perhaps the admissions were made to prison staff or were recorded?

Big takeaways from today’s #Delphi court hearing for defendant Richard Allen, who’s charged with the murders of teenagers Abby Williams and Libby German: 1. Trial date set for Jan 8-26, 2024 #Wthr 1/

2. No suppression hearing today on whether ballistics testing/evidence is admissible. That hearing will be set later. 3. Judge did not decide if Allen will be moved to a county jail instead of the state prison he’s in now. She is considering testimony & will rule later. #wthr 2/

4. Prosecution and defense both referenced “incriminating statements” Allen allegedly made in prison. Prosecutor said Allen “confessed 5 or 6 times to killing the girls.” Defense team says the vague statements are inconsistent with Allen’s previous statements.

5. Richard Allen appears to be in poor physical health. Even with help from police escorting him, he bumped into a wall and seemed to have poor balance. Has also lost a lot of weight since last fall and seemed dazed/confused at today’s hearing. #wthr 4/

I've seen them admitted in many cases over the years, I guess it depends. I'm really interested to whom he may have said it to. If it was a prison employee (not health care worker) those would definitely be admissible and be devastating to his case.

What if that happened early on and RA dreamed up this poor me, I'm sick and mentally incompetent act in order to cover his butt? I see a conniving, dark, secret holder in RA.
