I can only think of two.
SA
or a hit

Yeah, if not SA, I did have revenge among my ideas...that could align with the idea of a hit, too, I guess. Haven't even seen any rumors that the family would have enemies of that proportion though...

Well it seems gangs were ruled unlikely
that leaves the meth angle which isn't to be discussed
revenge - I suppose.
I'm still stuck on my research because I just can't find anything similar.
Not saying this one can't be a first but it's really puzzling that's for sure.

Edit to add I have done a lot of searching and have yet to find an old grouchy man that, in an alcoholic stupor became angry and decided to take on two girls and end their lives. :notgood:
But if I find an example I will surely post.

And at 77 is an alcoholic which restricts blood flow so sexual assault would be difficult unless he has prescriptions . I agree.

Pretty clear that either one of two things is true:

1. Case is dead cold.
2. LE knows with high degree of certainty who did it but does not have enough evidence to arrest.

I'm with option 2. I can't see them scaling back and stopping the publicity so soon without a suspect. Even so, arrest may never come.

Not that I have noticed.

To me it seems like there are some who consistently argue it couldn't be RL.

Some who consistently consider it could be.

And a few middle of the road people like me who are consistently on the fence about it.

Same thing goes for whether we think it's a local or SK, whether we think there was SA or not...

It seems inevitable as we discuss different theories that each of us would filter new ideas through our own leading theories. That's part of what makes the investigation here more thorough bc people are continually looking at each case from a variety of angles.

I agree. Everyone has their hunches. Some are more open to discussing other options. I am going to stop at that.

I'm just joining so if this has been discussed already, I apologize for revisiting it. I question if RL had anyone staying with him, a son, a grandson, a friend who helped him with daily chores? Perhaps a friend that drifted in and out as they were down on hard times. Just putting another avenue out ther to venture down.

What makes you think the man in the green jacket is RL?

I agree. Unless it was documented that this picture was with RL in it.... looks like we are going to blurrier and blurrier photos trying to say it is so and so. Don;t think this is productive at all. Just my opinion.

No one has ever confirmed that as far as I know. We have no idea what the police know about others working or staying with RL.

Hello!

Ok thank you, read all the rules and still trying to figure it all out. I appreciate your response

what i mean is saying he is not a suspect means little as LE do not typically come out and name a suspect in a murder investigation. the public tends to find out at the time of an arrest. If they publicly clear him that will be "good enough", but saying he is not a suspect just doesn't cut it or me, because if he was they would not tell us until there is an arrest.

I think this is a very fascinating case aside from the tragic outcome. There are various features and elements that remind me of the small town that I grew up in, including a long ago abandoned rail line and trestle over a river that was a magnet for kids to cross, dangerous as it was. Contrast that with accident-proof playground equipment now prevalent in cities. Times have changed but not so in Delphi. My wish for their small town is for this horrible crime to be solved, so everyone can begin healing and moving forward.

So as far as judging whether or not LE is delivering appropriate information or using words that I expect they should, I have no right to expect they're out to satisfy my wishes. Furthermore, I've always believed that getting too caught up in minor details often causes us stress and to lose focus.

If LE wants us to believe the identity of their suspect is unknown, that's good enough for me. If you believe otherwise I have to wonder what you think you're going to do about It?

I do wish we knew.

And welcome!

Take a break. Use that time to remember why you are here following this case.

HINT: The answer is not to right fight or bicker.

Some posts have been removed. Return to discussing the case.

Welco tinalinabailey. :)

:welcome:

These are great questions; we have all wondered about this. I haven't heard anything as of yet... Im sure LE has grilled RL on this (workers, visitors, family, friends, etc) and looked heavily into the possibilities re: this. And if so, it seems they would be highly scrutinized. But since there has been no arrest...

So I know a few people have said, have older people ever committed crimes?

I'm not personally sold on the RL as suspect theory (tho don't rule it out), but I for one am not picturing an elderly serial killer (tho there are of course a few Granny Ripper and Dorthea Puente types out there, I suppose).

I believe something like half of murders are committed by people under 25...soooo yeah, elderly aren't the first on the list. But in all fairness, I DO see articles about angry and frustrated older people becoming angry and using a gun here and there...

and some of those you referenced are even older than RL.

They are still going thru tips. So it is not cold and they have not run out of leads. I don't think they have anything pointing to a specific person yet but nor are they waiting for new info as they have yet to finish processing all the tips they have received. I believe they said as much a week ago.

And seriously, the image may have caused more harm than good, seeing how it looks like "everyman" i.e any age, size, etc...they probably won't get much more mileage out of pushing that on the public again. Sad, but it is one of the least useful images I have ever seen put forward by LE. You can tell this just by the hundreds of different things people "see" about this man.
