It crosses state lines.

Ah, that makes sense. I wonder if the perpetrator(s) knew that just going over that bridge would get the feds involved. Growing up in Evansville, it's completely normal to cross that bridge many times a year for various things - cheaper gas, buying a car, going out to eat, etc. so I bet that they didn't give it a second thought that it would up the ante if they were ever caught.

My apologies in advance if I am misunderstanding this completely: Do you mean "It crosses state lines" because Aleah might be found buried among garbage collected in Henderson -which is in Kentucky- while the landfill is located in Indiana? Also -thinking aloud as I type here- I suppose Aleah was killed in IN and disposed of in KY, too, in which case federal charges might be applicable. In any case, it sounds like LE really know what they are doing here.

SW sealed because of a protected informant?

This leads me to believe that they really think she's there. Man oh man, if she was thrown away like a piece of garbage I am really going to lose it. As much as I want her found, I'm not sure this is how I want it to end. I can't believe that it's come to this. I just keep thinking about "mom" cleaning her room over and over again. This is one of the most disturbing cases I've followed.

Interview with Brad Byrd. He probes her story a bit and calls out her changing stories but he didn't ask the question correctly, IMO, so she was able to dodge the question. She did add new information (at least, I hadn't heard it) that a window was "wide open" and her back fence was left open. I couldn't tell if she said bath room window or back room window but she said a window was open.

I'm sure she said bath room and I'd never heard any of this before. Not the window not the back gate, none of it. Lies lies lies. MOO

Whenever I see so much eye-shifting...

Exactly. If her body were transported across state lines it would qualify as a federal case.

The fact that they have been planning this search for so long, and that they have thrown such massive resources at it, the cops must be 99% sure this is her final resting place.

Praying they find her. Although not the ideal outcome we wanted for Aleah it's such a huge task trying to find someone at a landfill. More so children and small adults. :( I hope she is found and justice is swift and severe to ALL involved.

So I have an, uh, indelicate question. This came up for me in the Jacob Wetterling case, as well as a case I watched on to this afternoon. Aren't they worried that such big equipment will destroy evidence? What precautions do they take?

I'd like to know if they have special heavy equipment operators coming in. If you watch some of the backhoe/excavator competitions on youtube, there are definitely people out there capable of doing amazing precision work with large equipment. Here's one example picking up golf balls and dropping them in a pvc pipe. I've seen guys who work construction with my husband flip cigarette packs out of shirt pockets and knock off hats without injury.

On the other hand, they may just pick up big scoops at a time and sift through it manually. Since they are saying it's going to take a while, I would imagine they are being as delicate as possible.

Totally my guess, but landfills tend to keep records of what trash was deposited where, and I think they are using the heavy equipment to get down to the layer from the time of Aleah's disappearance. Then they move to more delicate tools and hand searching. JMO

Landfill searches are very difficult. LE searched for my little princess Jhessye Shockley whose remains were never found (love you angel baby) for several weeks. It is costly and as in this case, did not take place for some time after she was reported missing, which made the searching so much more difficult.

Those who are involved in this endeavor of searching the landfill for young Aleah have my utmost respect and admiration. It is horrible, awful, hot sweaty smelly, and psychologically exhausting work.

Just a theory here.... someone wanted for Aleah to not be found until decomp had advanced to the point where cod cannot be determined.

Then, "someone" can say anything at all, like "... oh,Aleah died at night and we didn't know what to do..." , or , " ...she was being fed and choked, then she died, but that's all that really happened -- nobody hurt her..."

Except that scenario falls apart instantly -- since why conceal her remains ?
Makes me ill.
:moo:

Jmo I think someone will use the fact that she had "surgery" to her advantage and I'm thinking maybe someone else was watching her.
But as I'm done typing this it makes no sense as per her missing report and being taken in the night by a bandit.
