Admitted accomplices Diano Gordon & Jalen Watson done with testimony. Both say they left Blackburn residence to get money from ATM with Amanda's credit card while Larry Taylor stayed at house. Both say that when they went back to pick up Taylor, he told them he killed Amanda

I was busy preparing stories for

newscasts. The prosecution is still presenting witnesses. I'm told the judge would like to wrap up the trial tonight.

The judge did not believe the trial could be completed in a timely manner tonight. The state has still not rested its case yet. Larry Taylor trial for the murder of Amanda Blackburn will resume at 9 am Thursday.

Thursday, Sept. 22nd:
*Bench Trial continues (Day 4) (Blackburn) (@ 9am CT) - IN - Amanda Blackburn (28) (was 12 weeks pregnant shot to death, Nov. 10, 2015, Indianapolis) - *Larry Jo Taylor, Jr. (18/now 25) arrested & charged (11/23/15) & arraigned (11/25/15) with murder willful intent, murder in the course of a burglary, murder in the course of a robbery, murder enhancement, carrying a handgun without a license, criminal confinement, 2 counts burglary (11/10/15), 2 counts of theft (11/10/15), 3 counts of rape (11/3/15), robbery resulting in serious bodily injury (11/3/15), public indecency & public nudity. Plead not guilty. Held without bond.
Watson & Gordon confessed that Taylor was the shooter. In the Nov. 3, 2015 case, tests found that Taylor's DNA matched samples found on the victim & her clothing.
Bench trial began on 9/19/22. (for Blackburn 3-4 days).
Rape: Trial set to begin on 11/21/22.

*Diano Cortez Gordan (24/now 30) – Plead guilty (4/5/21) to all charges but murder & sentencing hearing on 5/6/22 was continued. Next pretrial conference hearing on 9/16/22 for murder charges
*Jalen Emmanuel Watson (21/now 27) – Plead guilty (10/27/17) & sentenced to 29 years. Earliest possible release date: 8/17/2037.
 
Well at least the broad outlines seem clear now.

Obviously the two perps accusing the 3rd is very convenient for them, but i guess the cell and ATM data corroborates they weren't there for the shooting. It doesn't really make sense they would have gone back there had they have known.

The key point is we now know they saw Davey leave, and that is how they turned up with unfortunate timing.

My guess is not locking the door was probably not significant as they would have broken in.

Prosecution: Taylor's phone shows him searching news stories about Amanda's murder. Taylor sends messages to family & friends that he might be going away for a long time. Then he deletes messages on his phone going back to day of crime.

Defense closing: Prosecution must prove 3 things. 1. Taylor was in possession of phone. 2. Phone was in area of Blackburn house. 3. Accomplices are credible witnesses

Defense argument is that there is reasonable doubt about who had possession of which cell phones and where those phones were at the time Amanda Blackburn was killed. Phones used were prepaid and not linked to a subscriber and multiple people were using the same phones.

Defense points out that accomplices Jalen Watson & Diano Gordon were on parole for burglary and out committing more burglaries & were not inclined to give parole officers accurate contact phone numbers.

Defense says judge must look at inconsistent testimony of accomplices and their motivation to make a false accusation against Larry Taylor. Watson initially swore to God that he had nothing to do with Amanda's murder. Defense says oath has no value to Watson.

Defense: Amanda had no injuries consistent with sexual assault. There was no DNA of Larry Taylor found in the Blackburn house or on Amanda, only Watson's DNA was found in the home.

Defense: Gordon recanted multiple statements denying any involvement. But Gordon changed story when he could get the same plea deal as his close friend Watson. Defense says Gordon & Watson both had strong interest in giving state what it wanted to reduce their sentences.

I'm guessing we missed the DNA testimony on Tuesday when Rich wasn't covering the trial

Prosecution rebuttal: There is no doubt about the phone belonging to and being used by Larry Taylor. Taylor's phone is at Blackburn residence from 6:38-7:10 am while Gordon's phone is at ATM area. Taylor & Gordon's phones are communicating. Watson's phone is not being used.

Prosecution: Taylor's phone does not leave neighborhood until 7:15 am, after Watson & Gordon return in stolen car and pick up Taylor.

Prosecution: Amanda Blackburn was shot up the arm and bullet landed in her armpit. She was shot in the shoulder, then shot in the head. Consistent with someone struggling
