It’s not a fact at all. The Barnett’s very defense precisely puts her on trial. To believe them you have to believe she’s an evil, psychopathic adult scammer.

I can also believe given Natalia’s history of adoption disruption and growing up a dwarf. in a Ukrainian orphanage, she was an extremely difficult child perhaps suffering from reactive attachment behavior.
I can believe Kristine Barnett was the primary caretaker in the home and she could very well be a narcissist. That would explain her over the top reaction to be dragged into an electric fence (the mental imagine cracks me up every time) = SHE TRIED TO KILL ME.

Dwarfism doesn’t cause faces to look like children when the person is an adult, except for pituitary disorders which she does not have.

Yeah, I was not surprised that she was able to survive on her own at 11. Some kids do exactly that and take care of younger siblings on top of that. This is real life. It's really, really, really sad but happens everyday, even to kids we know.

Stuff like that happens a lot though. There are thousands of kids out there with meth head/smack head parents who have to look after themselves. A resourceful ten year old could survive that long alone. I could heat up soup and tinned ravioli on the stove, make tea, toast, jam sandwiches, scrambled egg much younger than ten. I was sent to the shop for bread and milk aged 7 I think and was often left to look after my sisters. Never for longer than a day of course but I wouldn't have died if I was left for a month at 10. Luckily for Natalia with her "indiscriminate friendliness" she befriended the right people quickly.

I understand how a child could feed themselves for a few days, even basic cleaning and taking care of siblings. I’ve come across many parentifed children of drug addicts...but there’s still things like trash day, electric bill, food shopping, dishes, cleaning, laundry, vacuuming. Those homes - were an absolute wreak - it’s just to overwhelming for a child...even with a drugged out parent in the home occasionally contributing to the duties. The most competent determined child I’ve ever known even washed her panties & socks by hand & put them on a radiator. Got herself up for school everyday, even received an award for perfect attendance, did her homework everyday. The apartment was a mess- dirty clothes piled everywhere, dirty moldy dishes, bugs...she would beg neighbors for food. Thats what would trigger Child Protective Services - kid would go into care fir a month or two while mom went into rehab- rinse & repeat as she’d get her kids back as soon as she left rehab.

Recall, her age was changed while she was institutionalized. Kristine said in her Facebook post that she was discharged into a halfway house. I posted a screenshot of the housing Aspire provided. All the “halfway” houses had 24 hr monitoring. Most likely a live in monitor. I don’t think she was alone until the LaFayette apartment July 2013. By August the Mans were posting photos of her on their Facebook calling her My Girl. She was NOT alone for long

I think all of that is true. But it is fact that to believe the Barnetts (who continue to assert NB is an adult), you have to believe she is a psychopathic dwarf. That’s their defense. At no time have they said “Well we BELIEVED she was an adult. We may have been mistaken but we believed that!”

Nope. They’re saying she really is an adult psychopathic scammer.

So once again, to believe the Barnetts you have to believe that about NB.

To believe they didn’t intentionally fake that she was an adult and abandon a child is a different issue. Of course we have MB’s actual words stated to a police officer that indicate that they actually did all that intentionally and knowingly as well. Who for some reason you don’t believe.

We’ve caught these people in so many lies it baffles me that smart people could doubt a cop’s word over theirs. I think one has to be super vested in their innocence to do that.

Even though there’s only a couple dozen cases of this in the literature, I wonder if it happens a bit more but just goes undetected. For most people there’s few reasons to check their DNA.

This sometimes bothers me with criminals, and I think dna should be taken from more than one place to try and reduce incorrect results... I think the one I heard about was different dna in the left arm vs the right arm, so one arm had 'innocent' dna and the other arm matched the criminal's dna.

Because the Barnett’s had her assessed on multiple occasions by endocrinologists, pediatricians, etc., and never mentioned that she had other medical issues. If she had something that kept her young looking they’d be screaming that from the rooftops and it would be malpractice for their attorney not to mention it in their original petition.

At this point you have to really stretch to make their story believable.

1. You have to disbelieve the 2010 age assessment.
2. Disbelieve the 2012 age assessment.
3. Believe the investigator who quoted MB’s words is a liar.
4. Overlook the constantly changing stories of the Barnett’s.
5. Ignore their many lies, exaggerations and inconsistencies.
6. Ignore the photographic evidence that NB aged from a child to an adolescent to a teen.
7. Believe she must have hidden her breasts even though NB have her a bath the first night they met and screamed for her husband who came running in. And neither of whom ever mentioned breasts.
8. Believe NB has a mysterious pituitary issues that none of the specialists found nor was ever mentioned which somehow kept her young looking until it somehow worked itself out and allowed her to magically age along a normal profession per her birth certificate.
9. Believe the Man’s are somehow welfare cheats who hoard kids no one wants so they c an take their money.
10. Believe an adult psychopathic scammer has happily and quietly put up with that for 5 years.
11. Believe the investigators are inept despite a five year investigation.
12. Believe the prosecutors are inept after reviewing the results of the five year investigation and deciding to prosecute.
13. Believe NB is somehow scamming the Mans into thinking she’s a child because she for some reason enjoys that, even though she’s clearly aged and matured over the years for them and appears to dress and talk and act like a normal teen today.
14. Somehow believe she fooled a Ukrainian adoption agency or is in on an adoption scam that she didn’t benefit from financially.
15. Or somehow believe she was a sophisticated monster living here for years who fooled and scammed American adoption agencies into believing she was an orphan child from the Ukraine.

I mean at a certain point I think one really has to be vested in the Barnett’s and disliking this kid. Otherwise it just doesn’t seem logical to me to do the mental gymnastics necessary to finding their narrative remotely believable.

Maybe that’s why she was evicted. Maybe that’s why the Mans took her.

The Barnetts were receiving SSI checks for her. So even as a legal adult she still wasn't entrusted with most of her money, they would have been incharge of paying bills (with her money).

I think the investigation took 5 years because it took that long for LEO's to track down her bio mom & confirm thru DNA testing that Natalia is, in fact, the daughter that she gave up. Following a paper trail from Ukraine to the U.S., dealing with a (possibly paperwork-shoddy) orphanage, and then waiting for what was probably not a highly prioritized DNA result-- all that takes time.

The Daily News got a head's up from some kind of tip. I found the woman claiming to be Natalia's birth mother very, very credible. I actually thought the main reason for the article was to allow her to speak to Natalia (i.e. explain, apologize & invite her to visit when she is 18).

Keep digging yourselves deeper, Barnetts: I think the D.A. has this wrapped up tight!!

I mean to convict them....not morally.

This article says a gag order has been issued. The Barnetts will still be allowed to talk about the case to proclaim their innocence, but some things have been declared off limits, including " that the Barnetts can no longer talk to the media about their adopted daughter's mental health, physical health or things they claimed happened while she was in their care."
