Does anyone know where Sam worked before his current job? I think that I read that he had been in this job one year. Curious if he has had stable employment, etc.
Good question.

This was discussed in the previous , now -deleted threads.
But S.A's employer gave him a good review to the media after Chloe's death, saying that he did his job competently.
Sorry I'm not sure where he worked; but can look around.

Eta :
Police release statement after daughter of SB officer dies on cruise ship in Puerto Rico | WCIV
".... Salvatore Anello works in the IT department for St. Joseph County, according to Mike Hamann, St. Joseph County auditor and head of IT.
“Well Sal works in the IT department, he’s a very valuable employee. Wonderful, just, would do anything for you. And we’re just mourning with him," said Hamann..."
emphasis mine
So he's not suffering from emotional or neurological issues, then ?

"... Police Chief Scott Ruszkowski has told WSBT that she was not held out of a window, as some news agencies have reported....."
So apparently we are to take PC Scott Ruszkowski at his word ? Was he there ? Has he watched the security footage ?
SR has no idea and needs to just shut up.
He has no business telling the media anything when he's not a witness.
I'm wondering if SR's 'parroting' what the Wiegands' told him to say ?

Thanks, LietKynes, I watched the brief piece where his employer, the county, said that he was a great public servant. But working for the government can be a protected environment, particularly if they are unionized.

A spokesperson for Michael Winkleman, the family’s attorney, provided a statement to the Washington Post: “The family was pleased with Sam’s interview as it gave a glimpse into Sam’s love for Chloe and it also touched on what a special child she was. Sam’s interview further makes clear that this was a tragic accident and that there are no grounds for any criminal charges against Sam. It is the family’s wish that any and all criminal charges be dropped so that they can grieve as a family.”

So now it's because he thought there was glass, he's color blind and because there was "no signage indicating an open window."

I get that he can't admit blame because of his criminal case but sheesh, to say he initially blamed himself but now blames RCCL because they didn't have a sign saying the window was open? Just how low can this guy stoop? If he's looking for sympathy from the public - or more likely employing a strategy suggested by his defense attorney - statements like this aren't gonna work IMO.

First bolded : More likely they want the criminal charges to be dropped because the lawsuit may not go forward if S.A. is charged.

Second bolded : Do we really want to know ?

bolding mine

I nominate @Medstudies :D -- for giving M. Winkleman the next "reason" that G-pa put her through that window.
JK ;)

But the overworked lawyer is probably sifting through WS now, looking for another excuse for S.A.
Who wants to bet he'll come up with something in this forum ?
Maybe Gramps did indulge in a few drinks and someone laced his Margarita with Rohypnol ??
Yeah I think not.

It's getting seriously weirder by the interview.
Is S.A. going to take off his shoes and socks and show that he has bunions on his feet ?
It's a dog and pony show and it's all about HIM.

He can't blame dementia as S.A was working up until and maybe beyond the time of the cruise.
MW has to come up with another excuse --anything but the truth will suffice.

RCCL don’t need to say anything but shut up and watch a train wreck.
They have the evidence. Simple.

I have a question, apparently he’s done an interview (I haven’t seen it yet) where he’s quoted as saying
“ I remember trying to find her on the floor and then I saw her fall, I saw her fall, I saw her fall and I was just in disbelief. And I was like "Oh my God,"' he said in a sit down interview with CBS This Morning, choking with emotion.

I thought he was holding her up? Why look on floor when he put her up on railing? I’m lost with this newest version of events, what have I missed? And should he even be making these public statements, can’t they be used against him? How is this such a mess.

It could very well be. The main thing that makes me think he has depth perception issues (as someone with this problem) is he said he looked to the floor thinking she would be there.
I wonder if initially he thought she fell between the window and the railing onto the floor. I think this all happened pretty quickly so this could’ve been a momentary thought.

But he needs to stop talking. I did feel some sympathy for him at first but lately not so much. While I think he was negligent, I would’ve been fine with him not being charged. I’m not cool with the lawsuit b/c I don’t think it was the cruise lines fault at all. Thousands (millions?) have cruised in this ship and no one else has needed a ‘window may be open’ sign.

Being colorblind doesn't does not make one blind. You can still tell the difference in light or dark shades. If this were a problem, we would have colorblind people walking through glass doors all the time. GF is a piece of work!
Exactly. Colorblind means you can't tell difference between certain colours....but you still see color...so he could tell the difference between no window and a green glass pane.

Despite the name, color blindness doesn't mean that people see the world in black and white. More than 99% of all colorblind people can, in fact, see color. Because of this, the term "color vision deficiency" (CVD) is considered to be more accurate. According to color-blindness.com, around 0.5% of women (1 in 200) and 8% of men (1 in 12) suffer from some form of CVD. There are several types of colorblindness, such as Deuteranomalia (which makes everything look a little faded), Protanopia (which makes everything seem a little green), and Tritanopia (greenish-pink tones), and only around 0.00003% of the world’s population suffers from total color blindness (Monochromacy).

spin spin spin.... the video really needs to be released at least up until the point of the drop IMO. I still can't shake the early video of the man holding his arms completely outside of the open window and moving them up and down. totally different movement than what SA described in the CBS interview where he had her in a bear hug and let go to knock on the glass with the other hand.
JMO
If he had her in a bear hug, and then reached out with one arm to knock on the non-existent window, she wouldn't have ended up on the concrete. There is something big missing from his description of the tragic incident. JMO

Wait.....So now the attorney -- who has (up until now) been essentially speaking for the family -- now has a spokesperson speaking for him?

SMDH... it just keeps getting deeper ~
it's almost as if they are trying to insulate themselves by providing layers of people in between them and the lies and ridiculous ever- changing story...
or maybe MW just finally realizes how f'd up this situation is and he can't even face the reporters anymore so bring in the "spokesperson" to spew the latest b.s.
MOO of course!

I just came across this on the ABC News site:

Anello said that he initially blamed himself for his granddaughter’s death, but now believes the cruise line should have had a sign posted warning that windows in the area where she fell could be open.

If there was such a sign, he said, “this wouldn’t have happened.”

He INITIALLY blamed himself?
But.. what? Now he doesn't?
SMH .... ugh!

A sign huh?

Like a speed limit sign?
Like a seatbelt sign?
Like a yield sign?
Like a “don’t sit on railings” notice?

Yes.
I’m sure a sign is all that would have been needed. He clearly obeys them.

Confirmed - it’s the eyesight condition. DOH!

The 51-year-old Valparaiso man said he was trying to stand her on the window's railing when she plunged from the open window to the dock far below. He said that "it happened in seconds".
"I saw her fall. I saw her fall the whole way down. I saw her fall, and I was just in disbelief. I was like, 'Oh my God,' and then I just remember screaming that I thought there was glass there," Anello said in an interview that aired Tuesday
"I just never saw it. I've been told that that's a reason it might have happened," he said, referring to the eyesight condition

I believe that’s the strategy for the family’s lawyer- he’s inserted himself in the criminal matter trying to drum up public outrage to get PR to drop the charges before the hearing IMO - if he’s convicted they would be foolish to file
They need to release the video now that there’s a chance it’s been altered - the only people who have it are the prosecution and defense- and whoever they gave it to

There’s that word again. Special.

The reporter said the video came from the prosecutor
So, did the prosecution release only partial video, did they edit the video to protect the evidence? I guess they’re not obligated to release it to the civil attorney are they? Just trying to figure out exactly what’s going on here.

Anyone know the next court date?
Family of cruise ship death toddler "really not doing well" as grandfather makes first court appearance
Dec 17
Snipped
During his brief appearance, no evidence was presented as the judge allowed the prosecution and defense more time to prepare ahead of his next court date on December 17, when a trial date will be set.

The family of the 18-month girl has long maintained that her death was an accident and Anello is not criminally responsible.

Grandfather of Toddler Who Fell to Death on Cruise Ship Charged by Police

Police originally alleged that Chloe fell from Anello's grasp as he held her up to the window. Chloe's parents, Alan and Kimberly Wiegand, said the child accidentally fell through the window, which Anello didn't realize was open, after he placed her on a rail so she could bang on it.

I've never understood the venom in this case. I absolutely believe this was not intentional. Do we just want the guy in jail because he followed the advice of his attorney to blame RCCL? Maybe he's a one in a million special kind of stupid? I'm terrified of heights myself. I'm especially terrified of my children around any heights. I'd never in a million years hold them up to a window on a ship like that. I practically need a xanax for them to walk on anything where they could even potentially hit the ground below or water below.

So many other people just walk around assuming all is safe and well. I can definitely see someone holding a child up to look out a window and it turning into a freak accident. I've always assumed they had some more evidence to be prosecuting him criminally. But it's not looking like that. I just don't get what seems to be so much dislike for this man though as if he really did it on purpose.

And he has some tickets? That means C's parent's were stupid to let him watch her on a cruise ship? If any of my parents or in laws have any tickets I would have no idea. How would I know unless I was there when it happened or they went out of their way to let me know they'd gotten a ticket for not wearing their seatbelt?
