Based on some of the things that Chloe's mother said in various interviews, I got the impression that the family group has not cruised previously. Chloe's mother couldn't understand why there would be windows that open on the 11th deck of the ship. Someone who has cruised previously would know that there are windows along the exterior of upper decks on the ship. Open areas where there are pools, hot tubs, lounge chairs, sports courts, water play pads, etc. are on upper decks of the ship aren't covered so guests can enjoy the sun and sea air. Around the perimeter of these decks, there are covered areas with tables and chairs for informal dining, playing cards/games, comfortable chairs/sofas where passengers can socialize. The covered areas can become very warm and humid because the decks are open to the elements. Opening some windows allows for ventilation and ocean breezes.
Whether they have cruised before or not, that is no excuse for lifting a child up on a handrailing in front of a window like that, never mind that the window turned out to be *open.* Handrailings are not for sitting, hanging, jumping, swinging, nothing. Except hands. And maybe light leaning. I drilled this into my kids in line at Disney. It vexed me when kids used the railings like a jungle gym, and they were bot for saftey.

I agree about the father. I think at some point he will get really angry that this was allowed to happen and that his wife basically sided with his daughter’s killer.
Yes I don't get a good 'vibe' about the relationships in this family from here on and henceforth and etc.
Going to be a divorce or some nasty fireworks coming up.
Not that anyone is hoping for that outcome.

But most would think that this is so odd--- defending S.A.

It truly saddens me that this family seems to have forgotten about little Chloe :( I don't know if that is indeed the case, but the focus on "Saving Grandpa" has usurped any reminders of this lovely little girl. Chloe's life was short - too short, but Chloe was here on earth if only for a brief period of time. Chloe was a happy, energetic child who brought joy to her parents and extended family. Most parents who lose a child, even if not under such horrific circumstances, experience significant difficulty moving forward, and some don't ever really recover from the loss of a child.

As I watch the interviews with SA making lame excuses for what happened to Chloe, I can't help wondering what her parents are thinking. Do they not blame him at all? Do they not harbor feelings of anger at his carelessness with their precious child? If not, there is definitely something wrong here :(
Have they finally watched the video?

It's ALLLLLLLMOST as if she was encouraged to do that for a reason. A sick, stupid reason. Like, oh, whoops, she got all cut up. Let's make some money here. I mean, come on. This is becoming a pet peeve of mine. I have it from a sports fan, my DH that in the venues there are signs and even ANNOUNCEMENTS over the PA system to NOT BANG ON THE GLASS. That is mind bogglingly dangerous and stupid. I have no use for these people! Their actions are making me very disgusted and angry!
This is correct. I hear people say the seatbelt thing is irrelevant. But SA really does seem like a guy who thinks safety is for wimps. Doesn’t want to wear a seat belt. Bangs on glass at kids’ hockey game. Seats and stands baby on hand railing. No one gonna tell him what to do!

Also it's worse than being on the handrailing as now it's described that Chloe was put over the railing with her also being described as sitting on the metal railing AKA the windowsill. I think at a minimum Chloe's legs would have to have been out the window for her to be able to sit on the metal railing.

Agreed. I could understand an initial statement that they knew it was not intentional and still loved their family member but this is a much more longterm effort. How many times has the attorney repeated to the press over the months that the family totally supports him. I know it's because of the charges but every time they do this, it gets updated in the press. Oh well. They're going to do what they're going to do. Not expecting any big changes. I just hope it stops sometime! Every time, thousands more people learn about this tragedy that didn't hear about it the first time. It could have already become minimally covered in the press by now even with the pending trial/plea.

I totally agree that her legs or at least feet were out of the window. If not then her fall came as a result of something else like being pushed forward by the body of the GF that she was leaning against (if she was).

Most of her body from the waist up had to be out the window for her to "accidentally" fall. SA did everything NOT to keep her safe. MOO This whole situation disgusts me beyond words.

When they say metal railing I think they mean the wooden railing because the windowsill is not a railing obviously. But saying metal railing is confusing to people. ???
I think this is what they are referring to as metal railing

I can also see a possibility that as long as her feet were out of the window, if she was let go of from that standing position, she could still fall out. But she might have had a moment of hitting the window frame while falling. If she just "disappeared" however (not buying that) then that doesn't go along with the story. They're saying she fell straight out. Very mixed-up, confusing story, without being able to see an exact depiction or the actual footage.

Yes, and the way that photo looks where the railing is in the center of the window is (I think) not the way the rail is in the actual window where it happened; on that one the rail is even with the bottom of the window.

Thought it might be helpful to reiterate the fact that Chloe's gf is IMO a relatively young grandfather.

HE IS 51.

When I think "grandfather, I tend to pull a mental reference from my own experiences, so before I knew his age, he lived in my mind's eye as a frail, less coordinated and perhaps partly deaf gentleman in his 80s! IMO

What kind of parents you hanging around with, yo? Haha
Haha, Good point. I've worked with at risk kids for about 15 years so what this guy did is mild compared to what I have seen, so I guess I have the opposite reaction. I don't understand how people can be surprised that someone would do this.

However, even outside of work I have seen parents do careless things every day. Just today while I was driving I saw a woman talking away on her cell phone with two young children in the back seat. I've seen people do that quite a few times.
Another thing I see often is a child alone in the back seat while the parent runs into a store or the gas station to pay.

When my daughter was little we went to the beach everyday during the summer (at a lake) and most of the mothers sat around talking while their kids were at least 10 feet away in the water. It was roped off in the little kids section, but still. A two year old can drown in just a few inches of water.

So in my opinion there are plenty of careless parents who think nothing will happen to their child. Until it does.

All that reaching outside the ship and trying to make contact with glass that wasn't there, GF is lucky he didn't end up on the concrete with Chloe.

But wait.... That would be impossible, because he was standing behind a wooden rail, which was there to prevent such ignorant "play,"
